Happy Tuesday! It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Topics. This week’s Tuesday Topic: What is your word for 2022! You can write about this, or any other running topic. Remember to link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post.
It wasn’t hard to come up with my word for 2022. I feel that this word is applicable to many aspects of my life.
My word for 2022 is RELEASE.
re·lease
1. allow or enable to escape from confinement; set free.
2. allow (something) to move, act, or flow freely.
I feel like I was in a contact state of stress during 2021 for various reasons. I don’t want to continue this pattern in 2022.
Like many other people, I have tons of anxiety and stress over Covid, especially this latest surge. I know I spend way too much time watching news clips and reading articles about record breaking positive cases and hospitalizations. While I always want to be informed, I know that I am overloading on the information. I want to work on releasing my need to keep up with the 24/7 news cycle. I also know that I’m taking all the necessary precautions to keep myself and my family safe, so I also want to release my constant need to second guess myself when it comes to this.
Sometimes at work I feel like I am pulled in so many different directions. I need to release the stress of this situation. I am going to plan on taking meditation and/or walking breaks when necessary. I’ve noticed that once I get to the point of being overwhelmed, my productivity is not great, so those breaks are necessary.
When it comes to working out, I know that I need to do a better job when it comes to warming up before a workout. I need to release the mentality that I don’t have enough time for this simple task. I also plan on working on doing more post workout stretching as well.
I’m really looking forward to taking the steps to release any negative habits this year and replace those with more positive and constructive habits.
Tell me: What’s your word for 2022?

Oh, this is a great one, Kim!
I never thought of “release” in those different ways until I read your post today. I like it!
When I still worked for a big international bank, my outdoor lunch runs helped me to stay calm. I came back to my desk at 1pm in a refreshed state of mind. My colleagues never booked a meeting over lunch because they knew I would decline it for my run. 🙂
kookyrunner says
I love that your colleagues were respectful of not booking meetings during your lunch time runs!
Wedny says
Such a great word choice–I absolutely can see how this would work in so many areas of life. I write this as I’m getting ready to go to crossfit–I’ll definitely be releasing some prework stress there. This lastest Covid surge has really put everyone over the top. Our nurse in the office always sings ‘let it go’ to me when I’m getting worked up about something, lol
I have picked a word for the year but haven’t finished the post–I’ll share it next week.
kookyrunner says
You and all healthcare workers have been in my thoughts lately, especially with the newest surge 🙁
Looking forward to seeing your word for 2022!
Kimberly Hatting says
That’s a perfect word for 2022! I sincerely hope some peeps take a cue from you on this 😉 It’s not easy, by along shot, to keep a healthy focus. We get to choose what that focus can be, though 😉
kookyrunner says
Very true – we need to focus on what we can do rather than all the craziness going around in the world.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I love this Kim!
Seriously, there are times I don’t watch the news at all. Most of the time I do, but I can go days — even weeks — without watching it. It definitely makes me happy, and if you’re online, you’re gonna know what’s gonna on anyway. Maybe not just the minute it happens.
Wish I could get my husband to do this! He watches the news almost constantly, but because he likes the tv louder, he wears headphones so I’m not *too* annoyed by it, except for what he’s doing to himself.
Taking walk breaks, meditation, the warmups & cooldowns — these are all awesome things to do, too!
Good luck, Kim.
kookyrunner says
Peeling myself away from the 24/7 news cycle will be a challenge but I’m determined to it!
Michelle says
Great word! I agree about releasing the need for the 24/7 news cycle – definitely something I could benefit from as well.
kookyrunner says
Definitely! That will be one of my goals for the year for sure.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
What a great word for the year, Kim. Here’s hoping it helps you focus on relieving some stress.
Thanks for the linkup and have a great week!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Debbie. I’m really going to work hard on putting this word into practice in all aspects of my life.
Coco says
I love this word and your intentions behind it! With the pandemic I bounce between trying to control somethng I can’t and having a fatalistic, “why bother” approach — which never lasts. Work stress is a constant struggle too.
kookyrunner says
Yup, I definitely fall into “why bother” sometimes when I get very frustrated but that never lasts long since i know we have to be diligent.
Deborah Brooks says
I really like your choice and your reasons behind it. It can be easy to get swept up in the news cycle etc. Your goals sound very doable!
kookyrunner says
thanks so much Deborah!
Darlene S Cardillo says
Release is a perfect.
We all need a release especially now.
I need one from the stresses of work and the negative nellies. We all know what is bad but we need to make the best of things There is plenty of good happening.
Stay healthy.
kookyrunner says
Yes, the negative nellies can be such a buzzkill.
Jenny says
That is a great word and it should serve you well. i love hearing about everyone’s word because it gives me good ideas for my own life. Releasing yourself from the news cycle would be a huge gift- I don’t think things are as dire as the news would have us believe.
Good luck with this in the new year!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Jenny! I’m really working on releasing myself from the constant cycle of bad news.
Virjinia @ With Purpose and Kindness says
I like your word! I think that’s a very good way to look at it. I understand what you mean about stress and anxiety with the pandemic so it’s been a bit of a mental shift for me too. You can totally add a few minutes for a warm up and stretching with your workouts. I have no doubt this word will carry you through a wonderful year!
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I think the mental shift will be the hardest part for me – it will be hard to not want to watch news or read articles all the time, but it’s something that needs to be done.
Black Knight says
The perfect word for this year after all the 2021 problems!
I am tired to read news about Covid, I want to relax myself and “relax” could be my word for this new year.
kookyrunner says
Yes! i really wish i could relax more but it’s hard to do with so much going on in the world.
Denise says
What a great word! I suggest you stop watching or reading all the COVID related things. Sounds like you’re doing what you need to do to be safe and that’s all you can do.
I’m going to try to release negativity too. I wish you a healthy and positive 2022!
kookyrunner says
I know you’re right Denise. I really need to take a step back from all the Covid news because it just sends me into a tailspin.
Angie says
This is such a good word and I love the examples you gave for why RELEASE is your word. This post was so relatable. You don’t want to watch the news but then I also want to stay informed. I was ready for 2022, because I was super stressed in the last part of 2021. Here wishing you a wonderful 2022.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Angie – Wishing you a great 2022 as well!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Great word and it can be applied to everything we do in the day. I stopped watching the news. I also want to be informed but it was just too sad and depressing.
kookyrunner says
I agree with you – the news is just so depressing lately. I find myself seeking out positive news stories to try to balance out all the sadness.
San says
Release is such a great word choice, Kim. We would all benefit from releasing some of the stress (around our current state of the world) and the need to control things.
My word for 2022 is forward, because I feel like it’s imperative to look (and move) forward despite all the obstacles thrown in our way!
kookyrunner says
Thanks! Although I will say the first few weeks of the year have been challenging so it’s been hard to release things, but I’m trying!
I love your word for 2022 🙂
