Happy Tuesday! It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Topics. This week’s Tuesday Topic: What is your word for 2023! You can write about this, or any other running topic. Remember to link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post.
My word for 2022 was RELEASE. Although I tried to release a lot of my worries and anxiety when it comes to certain things, I could have done a better job. I’m definitely still a work in progress when it comes to that!
My word for 2023 actually came to me rather easily. It’s a word that has been on repeat in my mind for the past few weeks. My word for 2023 is HEALTH.
health
the condition of being sound in body, mind, or spirit;
the general condition of the body
This is the first year that it didn’t take me a few days to come up with my word for the year. I think health popped up for me for a few reasons.
We’re still living in “unprecedented” times. I seriously hate that word, but it’s true. There’s so many things in this world that we can’t control, but one thing we can take control over is our health. There are always things we can do to improve our health – exercise, make smarter food choices, sleep better, participate in self-care, etc.
I have a milestone birthday this year. I guess any birthday that ends with a 0 is a milestone birthday? Anyways, this has me thinking more about my health and things I can do now to set myself up for success.
So how will I be focusing more on health in 2023? It’s really about going back to basics for me and doing small things that have made a difference for me in the past.
– Increasing my water intake, including drinking water as soon as I wake up. I tend to drink less water in the Winter so it’s something I will need to be more conscious of for the next few months.
– Back to meal prepping. This is something so simple yet I strayed away from it. I don’t meal prep in the traditional sense where I put a meal in each container. I prep veggies, fruits and two sources of protein, and then I mix and match throughout the week. That way I don’t get bored.
– Stretching, stretching and more stretching. This is pretty self explanatory.
The good thing about picking a word for the year is that you have 365 opportunities to put it into practice. Here’s to a great 2023!
Tell me: What’s your word for 2023?

What a great word, Kim!!! Having just hit a milestone birthday, health is clearly on my mind. You already do so much to stay healthy, so I imagine you’ll just roll with this one.
I haven’t chosen a word–I think there are too many I could choose, lol. Lots to work on.
kookyrunner says
You’re right that there are so many words to choose from. I was really surprised that this word came to me so quickly.
Debbie says
Health is the perfect word for all of us. I don’t pick a word for the year, but if I did, I couldn’t think of a better one! And yes to stretching – I stretch after my runs and on Fridays when I teach my balance and stretching class, but I could use a lot more.
kookyrunner says
That balance and stretch class sounds amazing! I could totally use something like that.
Michelle says
Great choice Kim! I’m so with you on the need to stretch more – it’s amazing how quickly flexibility can disappear 🙁
kookyrunner says
Right?! I feel like I have little to no flexibility now which makes me sad 🙁
Coco says
Health is a great theme to focus on. When you’re not healthy, nothing else matters.
I bet your milestone birthday will be one of your healthiest ever!
kookyrunner says
I couldn’t agree more! It’s great to have goals but if you’re not healthy, nothing else really matters.
Kimberly Hatting says
Health is an awesome choice, and definitely one we all could (and should!) embrace. It’s tough to think of ONE word of significance, so the fact that HEALTH came to you so quickly says it all 😉 Onward!!
kookyrunner says
I was so surprised the word came to me so quickly!
Darlene Cardillo says
Love your word. Health is key to everything we do in life.
I have a big birthday too… but I am a lot older! (It’s a clue tot he word I’m going to pick).
Good luck with yours. You have thought it through and I need to follow your tips too.
kookyrunner says
Totally agree! Without good health, we really have nothing.
Catrina says
I am sure you are already a lot healthier than others in your age group, Kim!
Out of curiosity, how do you make sure that the things that you prep stay fresh throughout the week? (I’m thinking of salads and uncooked vegetables and fruit).
kookyrunner says
I always like to make sure my veggies and fruits and washed and dried so that i can just grab what I need throughout the week. For veggies I’ll usually cut up my romaine lettuce and cucumbers so that I can make quick salads.
I use glass containers to keep everything fresh. Also for leafy greens, if you put a paper towel in with the container, it helps to absorb any extra liquid and keeps the items fresh.
Catrina says
That’s a great tip wit the paper towel! Thanks, Kim!
Deborah Brooks says
Love it! You do have 365 days to achieve these goals. In the winter time, I am thirsty maybe from the dry heat. I also count hot tea towards my water intake. I go back and forth on being organized with meal planning. I am always happy when I do it
kookyrunner says
I also count tea in my water intake since I don’t add anything to it.
Jenn says
Health is a great thing on which to focus! I think you have a solid plan for accomplishing your goal, and I know you’ll have incredible ssuccess!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Jenn!
Denise says
Stretching, stretching and more stretching…I feel you!
All goods things to focus on though. Happy New Year!
kookyrunner says
Happy New Year to you to Denise!
Susanne says
Good choice!! I was close to choosing self-care, but then went for another option that would cover more aspects of my life. But health is another focus now. I so agree with you about the word unprecedented.. the bad stuff isn’t over and we need to be health-conscious now more than ever.
kookyrunner says
100% agree – I really just want to get back to precedented times, lol. I would love to have some normalcy back.
Zenaida Arroyo says
Health is very important. But you are very active already so you are already ahead of the game. Get in the habit of having a water bottle with you in your desk. Set a timer (say every 20 minutes) to take a sip/gulp). When I worked from you I wold leave the bottle in the kitchen and that will force me to get up from my chair.
kookyrunner says
I like the tip about setting the timer for drinking water – I’m going to try that next week. Thanks!
Shathiso says
Health is a solid word and the fact it came to you so quickly is a clear sign this is your word for the year. Going back to basics is the best way to set yourself up for success – I’ve had to do the same – with water at the top of my list! I have a WhatsApp Group with 2 of my friends and we have to report our water intake at 11am and then at 6pm! So, for this has worked with each of us drinking our set quantity by the last check-in. Mine is 1.5L for January but looking to increase that to 2L from Feb onwards. My word for the year is FLOW. I’d like to simplify many areas in my life to achieve this state of flow; and remove the physical and mental clutter that sometimes prevents this flow state!
