Happy Tuesday! It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Topics. This week’s Tuesday Topic: how do you organize your running gear? You can write about any running related topic. Remember to link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post!
Let me start off by saying that I definitely have too many workout/running clothes – and this is after doing some serious spring cleaning last year. I also have small closets so I utilize my dresser drawers and cubes to hold my gear.
Shirts, Sports Bras and Bottoms
I use my dresser drawers for all of these items. I use one drawer for my shorts and capri length pants, one for my leggings and one for all of my shirts and sports bra. This has been my system for years and it works well. I also color code all of the items as well. It just makes it easier for when I need to find a certain shirt or pair of bottoms.
Sneakers
I have an over the door shoe rack that I use for my running sneakers that are currently in use. I often buy multiple pairs of sneakers when they go on sale and will keep those in the box and stacked in the corner of my closet until I’m ready to use them. Funny enough, I don’t have a huge collection of running sneakers so it’s easy to keep that gear organized.
Long Sleeve Shirts & Half-Zip Shirts
I have a 6 cube storage organizer in one corner of my room and I use 2 of those cubes for my long sleeve shirts and half-zip shirts. I fold the shirts into thirds and everything is color coded as well.
Tell me: How do you organize your running gear?

Topic for next week – How do you stay mentally motivated during a long run? Feel free to write about this or any running related topic. We hope you’ll link up with us!
Colour-coding is a nice idea!
This would work for my tops but not for my pants – all of them are in very boring black.
I’m trying to get away from black pants but I think I have a mental block, haha!
I love color coding! Oddly enough I don’t do it for my “regular” clothes, only my workout clothes. You can tell what’s more important to me LOL.
I have a few colorful pairs of pants but most of them are black. Kinda boring but it does go with everything so that’s good!
Wow! Color coordinated! That’s impressive.
I think I may have more running clothes .. . . I have a small armoire in my bedroom. I have a plastic 3 drawer thing that holds my compression socks, my quarter zips, and some of my capris. The armoire also has 4 small shelvels, and I have cubes on them, with skirts and capris and leggings.
Then there are more organizers in the bottom of my closet — more skirts and leggings.
Tops are in a drawer.
The shoes just go in a bin! I usually have a couple of pairs I’m rotating through, some old shoes, and trail shoes.
Seems like you have a really good system in place!
I color-code, too!! (I know you’re surprised LOL) I have switched my “systems” many times, and still have not found the perfect solution. I’ve been putting a lot of my gear in the closet of a spare bedroom, but with our daughter moving from her apartment and back to college this semester, that room is now packed to the ceiling with her extra furniture and it’s difficult to get to the closet. We do have her extra dresser, though, in the hallway so that’s been temporarily sufficing. I think I just need a running-focused room all of my own. I have found that by folding my shirts into fourths, and then rolling them, they seem to take up less room.
LOL of course you also color-code #kimtwin! At one point I put some running gear in containers underneath my bed but I got tired of bending down to get it out. Now I just keep seasonal items there which works out much better.
I’ve thought about rolling my shirts to make more space – I may try that when I do some spring/summer cleaning.
Mine are an organized mess. I use the drawers in my bedroom for skirts and the drawers in one sibs bedroom for socks and capris and long sleeve shirts. The other sons bedroom the drawers are for tanks tights and tee shirts. Good thing they moved out before I started running.
I love the term organized mess – I know exactly what you mean!
My gear is all over the place. In one dresser I have a drawer stuffed with shorts, bras and socks. In another dresser I have one drawer of t-shirts, one drawer of long-sleeve tops, one drawer of leggings — and one drawer of non-running clothes. My running shoes are lined up in my closet — when they are not scattered around the house. 😛
LOL, it doesn’t sound like you have a organization system BUT I bet you can always find what you’re looking for!
It is probably no surprise that I have a ridiculous amount of running gear. I had everything really organized a while back and now it’s a mess again. Thanks for reminding me I need to come up with a better system again
It’s so easy for my running stuff to get unorganized too – especially if I don’t put it away immediately after washing it.
I also have too many running clothes but I still want to buy more!
Same here! lol
Is there really such a thing as too much gear LOL! I did a major closet reorganization this summer and finally, have all of my running and workout clothes in bins. I love that you color code!
That’s great that you were able to reorganize your closet! My dream is to have a walk in closet one day so that I can easily see all my clothes lol.
