Welcome to another edition of Tuesday Topics! This week’s topic is “What made you decide to start running?”. Instead of this topic, I decided to share a blog post I wrote a few years ago that highlighted some of my favorite running quotes. I figured we could all use some motivation right about now, right?
This is one of my favorite quotes when it comes to running. I’m not a fast runner (no BQ in my future) so it’s easy for me to say that I run and that I’m not a “runner”. This is such BS. If you run, you’re a runner!
When Oprah says it, you know it’s true! The more involved I get in running, the more I get out of the sport, that’s for sure. More friends, more confidence in myself, more endurance, etc.
This is SO true! Sometimes I have the best runs when I REALLY don’t feel like running. Is that true for you?
This quote was especially true for me when I was training for my first marathon. I had a LOT of doubts about whether or not I could actually do it. It wasn’t until I completed my first 20 mile run that I started to believe in myself that I could complete the marathon. You definitely have to believe in yourself first and then everything else will follow.
This is something I take to heart when I run (especially now). It sucks in the moment, but at least I have the ability to run, and that I am very grateful.

Thank you for these quotes! I especially love the last one.
There are so many who would love to run, but who are too old, too sick, too burdened with daily life, too busy. Let’s run harder for them!

No problem Catrina – Glad that you liked them!

This is a wonderful post, Kim! Yes, I totally agree that we all need some lifting up right now. Thank you for sharing these (even when I know some of them!).
kookyrunner says
Thanks Judy! I’m glad that you liked the quotes I selected 🙂
Wendy says
This is just perfect, Kim. We need all the motivation and inspiration we can get right now.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Wendy! Just trying to do what I can to spread some good vibes.
Darlene says
Love these.
Glad for a positive post and not being about the virus.
Running is my only normal.
kookyrunner says
Totally know what you mean. Thank goodness for running and other forms of exercise to use as an outlet.

These are all golden!! A quote that I embraced early on (and still do, actually) is “First place or dead last, we all cross the same finish line.” Honestly, I cannot remember if it’s one I read somewhere or if I made it up LOL The last quote you shared is especially significant…when I was sidelined, it became really clear how much I loved running. I have not taken it for granted, at all, since.
kookyrunner says
Ohh I love that quote! I should have added that one to the post 🙂
Zenaida Arroyo says
So many great quotes! I like them all. Many times when I am having a rough time during a run or race, I tell myself to just run one mile at a time. Sure beats knowing that I “have” to run 5 or 13 miles. One step at a time.
Chaitali says
I love these! I hadn’t heard the Oprah one before, but it’s so true. Thanks for sharing them 🙂
kookyrunner says
No problem, happy to share! 🙂
Denise @ runheartfit says
I love all those quotes but I do like to remind people that if they run then they are a runner.
Thanks Kim!

Happy you enjoyed the post!

I. LOVE. THIS. POST.
And I needed it right now. I don’t feel much like a runner at the moment, so it’s nice to have the reminder of the motivation.
kookyrunner says
I’m so happy this post gave you some joy!
Shathiso says
It took so long for me to call myself a runner! I felt like such a fraud until I realised, no I am very much a runner. I run don’t I? And yes, some of my best runs have come on the days I had to drag myself out the house!
kookyrunner says
I think we all feel like that when we first start out!
Deborah Brooks says
We meed all the motivation and positivity we can get right now. Sometimes the best runs do come when you least expect them. Stay well!
kookyrunner says
I totally agree! Today I didn’t really want to run but once I got out there I was happy I left the house.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
This is a great post and comes just when we all need it! I especially like Michael Jordan’s quote.

Thanks Debbie! I figured we could all use a little motivation 🙂
