Happy Tuesday! It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Topics. This week’s Tuesday Topic: Why are you thankful for running this year? You can write about this or any running related blog post. Remember to link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post!
Why am I thankful for running in 2020? That’s certainly a loaded question! While I’m always thankful for the ability to run, and exercise in general, but even more so this year.
I think we can all agree that this year has been a dumpster fire filled with so much uncertainty and sadness. I like to say that I’m not a pessimist or an optimist, but a realist. While I definitely try to find the positive in a situation, sometimes things just suck and it’s okay to feel that way.
I’m thankful to running for helping me work through my increased anxiety this year. While I do tend to worry about a lot of things, I’m usually able to keep things in check. This year it’s been really hard because I’ve let the worrying (about everything) REALLY get to me. Some days I feel super tense which are the days that I’m so thankful that I can run/workout to release some of that tension.
I’m thankful to running for my virtual support system. I’ve made some amazing and special friends through my running adventures over the years. These women have been a great support system all year. They always motivate me to workout on the days I don’t want to. It’s also nice to have text conversations and video chats “just because” which is a nice way to bring normalcy to any day.
Tell me: Why are you thankful for running this year?

Running has always helped me through my anxiety–this year, I’ve needed running more than ever! I am grateful that I’ve been able to run so much. Running has been a bright spot for me this year.

I couldn’t agree with you more!

So true, Kim! Running is the best therapy.
For me, running has been the best thing ever in 2020: it doesn’t require any expensive equipment, gym, specific weather or other a team: just tie your running shoes and get out. So refreshing!
kookyrunner says
Such a great way to look at it! Especially with many gyms shitting down across the country, it’s always nice to have the option to lace up my sneakers and go outside for a walk or run.
Kimberly Hatting says
Running serves so many purposes for us, and it’s been one constant in this crazy year of turmoil. Like you said, it’s not only a fantastic way to burn off the stress, but it’s also a valuable means of connecting with others. I have a solid tribe of running friends, and I’m grateful you’re a key member;-)
kookyrunner says
So grateful that you are in my tribe – it means more than you know! <3

I wrote my post last week. 🙂
I do think one of the ways to turn off the worry is not to watch the news too much! Some days I don’t watch it at all. Trust me, it makes me a much happier person, and you will always hear what happened eventually.
Obviously, I am still grateful for running! Burning off stress is never a bad thing.
kookyrunner says
I agree with not watching the news too much. I struggle with that because I want to know what is going on, because there is SO much happening, but I also not that it’s an added stressor for me. I need to find a balance.

This has definitely been the year to feel more thankful than ever that we are able to run. While the races may have been cancelled, we can still get out the door and enjoy the sights around us. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving!
kookyrunner says
Totally agree, and I love that we can go out for a run any time of the year!

You can read my post today but I am grateful to be able to run and walk and hike and for those friends that I can share these experiences with.
And my virtual friends!!
kookyrunner says
I’ve enjoyed all the photos from your hiking adventures this year!

Virtual friendships are more important than ever this year! I’m grateful for the blogger community, it’s helped me through some tough times.
Thanks for hosting the link-up Kim!
kookyrunner says
Me too! I’m also thankful that we have so much technology to connect with others virtually.

I’m with you, Kim. I don’t know how I would have handled the increased anxiety of 2020 without being able to put on my running shoes and hit the pavement (or trails). Although at some points my long runs actually caused anxiety, I got over that and now feel good even when I do my long runs. My running friendships are some of the closest relationships I have.
kookyrunner says
I agree about the long runs – my virtual half marathon was not fun, lol, but I’m still glad I did it.
San says
Running has been such a positive outlet for me, this year more than ever. I don’t know what I would have done with Covid and WFH, if I couldn’t have gotten out for my runs!
kookyrunner says
I totally agree! Staying active has really helped me not completely lose my mind this year.

I wake up some mornings with such anxiety sometimes. I don’t know if anxiety is the right word; but a heaviness or a feeling of uncertainty. So running has really helped me. I can honestly say I don’t know what I would have done without it. When I skip a run, I quickly feel anxiety creeping in. So I’m with you on that one. And definitely on the second one too. The link-ups, the FB and IG pages of runners have really lifted me through the strict lockdowns and now as things are opening up. The running community has been a constant. I’m thankful for running.
kookyrunner says
I can definitely relate to the feeling of uncertainty – it’s really such an awful feeling and to think we’ve been dealing with this pandemic for over 8 months.
Deborah Brooks says
I am so very thankful for running and exercise and Peloton this year especially. What a stress reliever and also a way to feel normal among so much chaos
kookyrunner says
I am so thankful for Peloton too. One good thing from this year is that I’ve had the opportunity to really explore the Peloton app.
Zenaida Arroyo says
Running early in the morning gets me ready for the day. It will definitely feel weird if I did not start off with a fun. I am thankful for being able to get out and run. I am thankful for all of my blogger friends too. 🙂
kookyrunner says
I love starting out the day with a run, or any type of exercise really!
