Welcome to another edition of Tuesday Topics! This week’s topic is about staying fit while on vacation. I had to laugh when I saw this topic listed for this week because I don’t think any of us are going on vacation anytime soon. I guess it’s still good to have these tips handy for when we can travel!
Remember to Link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post!
Plan, Plan, Plan
I know that this doesn’t work for everyone, but I have a very type A personality and I absolutely love planning everything (within reason). My family gets mad at me because I have a “loose” agenda for when we go on vacations, especially if I know we want to do a lot of sight seeing. In terms of fitness, I always try to select hotels that have gyms. I find this makes it super easy to get in a workout, even if it’s just for 15 minutes. When I travel for work I also call the hotel to ask if they have any running paths in the area. I’ve done this numerous times, most recently in Toronto last year, and it was great.
Use Apps
As I’m sure we all know by now, there are so many apps available so that you can take your workout with you on the go! Obviously I’m a fan of the Peloton app because they have so many body weight exercise classes available, but there are tons of other great apps available.
Use your feet to explore
Sure, it’s easy to take public transportation or an Uber to get to your destination, but if the place you need to go is only 1-2 miles away, why not walk there? Not only do you get extra exercise, but it’s a great way to explore the area too. I try to do this as much as possible when I travel. I also find that it evens out all my bad food habits while on vacation as well, lol.
Tell me: What are your tips to stay fit during vacation?

Topic for next week – What is your training philosophy?
Wendy says
I always pack my running shoes when I travel. As far as strength training, I usually take that week off. I have to admit that I’ve never used a hotel gym, lol. Sightseeing on foot is another great way to get some exercise in.

Same here – I always have a pair of running sneakers.

Oh, sightseeing on foot! I remember when I was in Rome one time and we had a friend who showed us around. The whole day!
I didn’t have a step-counter at the time but I remember sitting on the steps of some monument, totally exhausted. It was a good workout, haha!

It’s amazing how many miles you can rack up just by walking!

Walk everywhere.
Run.
Gee. I wish I had a vacation!!

Me too.

Yes, all kinds of walking is usually on my agenda. Of course, I always utilize any available stairway as well 😉
kookyrunner says
Yup! Always great to use the stairs too.

Yeah, not planning on vacation anytime soon, sad.y. My biggest tip? Get out there before the others are up! I get to see a lot more that way.
kookyrunner says
That’s a great tip! Always best to beat the crowds if possible.

I’m the same with planning! I do all the research beforehand and then have an agenda that I send to the family WhatsApp group. They complain and roll their eyes and then afterwards say what a fantastic time they had and how did we manage to do so much!? So keep doing your thing girl!!
I also don’t focus on food because I love exploring a place through the food. But the walking, sightseeing and running really helps as you say to even things out. There’s nothing like seeing a new place on your feet!
kookyrunner says
Haha we are exactly the same! I like having a nice agenda planned but my family always tells me that vacations should be relaxing. They are more “go with the flow” type people so I’m definitely the outlier.

I also love to plan ahead for vacations. (my husband often thinks I am insane) I love to find active and fun ways to explore my surroundings. Hiking and biking are 2 of my favorite things to do on vacation. We were actually supposed to be on one this week :(. Thanks for the link up
kookyrunner says
I love that you also like to plan just like me, lol. My family often thinks I’m crazy as well.
Hiking is always a great vacation activity!

When I go on vacation I usually like to relax. Depending on where I go, I get out and run but if not then I don’t.

Can I come on vacation with you? I love planning things out – and ALWAYS make sure the hotel has a gym and / or an alternative (one place we stayed had free bike rentals and was near a path – that was fun!). I’ll also call to see when the gym opens so I Can get there super-early and don’t have to fight for a treadmill. Getting my exercise in before everyone else is up makes me a MUCH happier vacation partner for my family! 🙂

It sounds like we would get along on vacation for sure!
