Welcome to another edition of Tuesday Topics! I don’t know about you, but it feels a little weird to blog at the moment since there’s so much panic in the world. One thing I’m trying to do is keep doing the things that bring me joy, and that includes writing. I know we have a “new normal”, but we should still to do things that bring us joy if we can.
This week’s topic – What do you think about while running?
Food
I think this is an obvious one, lol. I always think about my post-run meal when I do a long run. I usually start narrowing down what I want to eat about 2 miles before I finish the run. This is especially true in the summer since I really hate running in the heat so that makes me even more excited for my post-run food, which usually includes lots of water and some type of breakfast foods.
Work
Well this isn’t a fun one, but sometimes I do think about my projects at work. Usually I just ask myself a bunch of questions:
Can I get this project done before the deadline?
Who can I reach out to for an answer to my question from yesterday?
Is there a way to streamline any of the steps in this process?
Basically I just try to think of the best way to get the task accomplished. I do some of my best planning and thinking during a run.
Memories
I always listen to music when I run and sometimes a song can trigger a memory that will stick with me for the duration of the run. I absolutely love when this happens!

Topic for next week – What’s on your Spring bucket list?
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I’m usually writing blog posts in my head, LOL. Sometimes I even remember what the topic was — I do get some great ideas on the run!
I try to use it more as a meditative time, though. Which isn’t to say I don’t think (and meditation isn’t about not thinking, anyway, as most people think!), but I spend a lot of time in my head already — so running can be a way for me to turn off my brain.
I also try to notice nature. Because that makes me feel better.

Yes! Food, especially on my extra long runs, LOL! I also found it weird blogging and sharing posts on social media. But we have to keep going. And as much as possible do things we would normally do anyway (which are within our power and safe).

Gosh, I think a better question would be “What do I DON’T think about?” I have written many a blog post while running. I have solved lot of world problems (at least in my mind LOL). I have used my sociology/psychology skills to analyze problems. Oh, and I have gotten in a great workout π

I do my best thinking on my runs. It’s really a meditation for me. Sometimes I sort out things I’m worried about. Other times, I think about blog posts. And sometimes, I don’t think about anything at all! Those are the best runs, where I just get into the zone and go.

Iβm usually listening to a podcast or audiobook but sometimes I get distracted and start planning my day or think about something that is bothering me.
Chaitali says
It’s funny, I can rarely remember what I thought about during a run. It’s just lots of meandering and jumping from one thought to another. But I know food is definitely on that list a lot!
Darlene S Cardillo says
yup definitely food and work….
I try to notice nature and stop and take pics…I don’t worry about my pace!!
Catrina says
Haha, FOOD! Sometimes I daydream about avocado on toast, together with a hot chai.
I also think about many work-related problems on my runs… it seems that especially my lunch runs are helpful problem-solvers.
And blog posts, of course. I love to think about new topics and how I would write them.
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
Heh heh, I think about everything and nothing when I run. I’ll often process my feelings about things that I’m upset about, work my way through all the things I need to do that day, and often I just zone out until my Garmin beeps and brings me back in.

Sometimes I use running as a form of therapy also, especially if I’m upset about something.
Deborah Brooks says
i always think about what I am going to eat for lunch while running. Most of the time I am also chit chatting w the crew but that might end ugh
kookyrunner says
Yeah it’s hard to chat when you have to keep 6 feet away π
Zenaida Arroyo says
How could I forget to add food to my list? Duh! That is an important one. π
kookyrunner says
lol so important!
Coco says
My thoughts usually meander but I definitely start thinking about my post-run coffee by the end of my run! If Iβm running with Scooby I have to focus on him and wonder what heβs thinking of β especially if he sees a cat before I do!
kookyrunner says
Post-run coffee is always amazing!
