Happy Tuesday! I hope that you’re all having a great week so far!
This week’s Tuesday Topic: What new running products have you tried this year? You can write about this topic, or feel free to post any running related blog post. Remember to Link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post!
I’ve realized that it doesn’t matter how long you have been running – you’ll always find new running products to try. It’s definitely always a hit or miss, but the good thing about trying new products is the opportunity to find something that you really like 🙂 Here are a few new products I’ve tried this year.
Science in Sport Gels
As a BibRave Pro, I was lucky enough to test out Science in Sport gels for the past few weeks. I was given 4 flavors to test out, including Apple and Salted Strawberry, which were my favorites! I just placed an order to try out the vanilla and berry gels. I’m hoping they come sometime this week so I can test them out on my long run this weekend. I love these gels because some have caffeine which give me a little kick and they don’t upset my stomach. I’m looking forward to using these gels for my training this summer.
Nathan Peak Hydration Waist Pack
This is a brand new to me item as I just used it a few days ago on my 10 mile run. The Nathan Peak Hydration Waist Pack is roomy enough to fit my gels, phone and car key. In addition, the 18oz bottle holds a good amount of water – definitely necessary for these hot and humid runs. The best thing about the waist pack is that is doesn’t bounce at all – there’s literally nothing worse than feeling a water bottle bounce with each step you take while running. I’m planning to continue to use this waist pack for all my long runs and for the marathon as well.
OrangeTheory Fitness
Although not really a ‘running product’, I think that joining OTF will definitely help my running overall. I welcome any help I can get in the endurance department so I’m excited to see how my running progresses as I continue with the classes.

I guess I’m sort of on topic talking about skirts. 😊
I do have something I’ve tried, but it’s for a review so can’t share that yet! Soon!
kookyrunner says
Ohh looking forward to your review of that new product!
Zenaida Arroyo says
I think those gels were once handed out at a RnR race? Now I am not so sure. Now I am not so sure if I want the Peloton bike or sign up for OTF.
I don’t have anything new but two new products I am excited to try. 🙂
kookyrunner says
Yeah I think RnR handed them out during races in 2017 or 2018 – I can’t remember. The flavor I tried back then wasn’t that great but I’ve been happy with the flavors I’ve tested out so far.
Wendy says
I tried those SLS gels last summer. I liked them but I still prefer my Tailwind. Old habits die hard!
I’ve been using that Heart Zones monitor–I think that’s the only new thing I’ve tried this year unless you count shoes!
kookyrunner says
I forgot to add new running sneakers to my list, whoops, LOL
Darlene says
I tried a new skirt – with pockets in the back for water bottles. I have to buy bottles that fit better so I’ll let you know if I like it.
kookyrunner says
That’s really cool that the skirts have pockets!
Black Knight says
I haven’t tried any new product. It’s difficult that I change something that works very well for me.
Moreover as I have been running since 1985, I have many many new outfits, so the only item I change are the shoes.
However sometimes I try new sport drinks but my doctor said that it’s better that I only use a simple potassium and magnesium.
kookyrunner says
I actually tried some new sneakers this year (forgot to mention on my blog) and thy have worked out so well so far!
Denise @ runheartfit says
I just bought a new fuel belt but haven’t needed to use it yet. It fits well and has all the bells and whistles so I hope it works out.
I’ve never seen that brand of gels but would be willing to try them. I like Cliff Shots.
I’m considering trying Altra running shoes. Have you tried them?
kookyrunner says
I’ve never tried Altra running sneakers but I know a few runners that do and they really like them!
San says
I am so reluctant to try gels, because I tasted some bad ones, but maybe I just need to keep trying? 😉
kookyrunner says
If what you have works, then I stay stick with it! I was using one brand for a while but last year it started messing with me stomach so that’s why I was happy to give the SiS gels a chance!
Kimberly Hatting says
I love the SiS gels! They are so easy to use while running 😉 (and, most importantly, my tummy liked them, too)
kookyrunner says
Same! I do wish they were a little smaller. I’m not sure how I’ll be able to fit more than 2 in my belt for those really long runs but I’ll figure it out!
Liz Dexter says
I’ve embraced Tailwind this year and found it to be excellent. No GI distress on my whole ultra!
kookyrunner says
I do also like Tailwind! My favorite is the green tea flavor. Eveb with Tailwind I still found myself needing gels/pretzels for super long runs and marathons.
Liz Dexter says
Yes, I can’t drink enough of it to get the full effect so I have about half the other stuff I used to, which works well for me. Raspberry is my favourite!
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
i have recently tried a heart zones monitor and need to do a review! I have a similarNathan hydration pack. Mine is getting kind of stretched out so maybe I will try that model. Does your phone fit in it?
kookyrunner says
Looking forward to your review. I’ve been debating if I should run with a heart rate monitor again so I can really figure out my “easy” pace.
I have an iPhone 6S and it fits in the belt.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
I’ve tried two new things recently… but I’m writing a post on them! To be published this week (if I get my act together!). I have seen those SIS gels in my local running store, but haven’t tried them yet. I pretty much stick with GU.
kookyrunner says
Looking forward to your upcoming blog post!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I’ve just started using that Nathan belt too – I think it’s going to work out well for long training runs! And thanks to you, I’m going to give SIS another shot. I also tried new shoes this year, which I’m loving!
kookyrunner says
I really like that Nathan belt – I was actually surprised how much it didn’t bother me on my run.
Cari says
Skirts mostly, so I sould have read ahead on the topics and held the one I posted two weeks ago. LOL. And new shoes. And the hydration.
Did you run with the belt on your back or you slid it for this photo? If you did – it stayed? I have no issue with front belts but ones on back/side always ended up in front
kookyrunner says
I forgot to mention my new sneakers that I tried this year – whoops!
I run with the belt on my back and it actually stayed with no bounce!
Debbie says
I’m trying to think if I’ve tried something new! The one thing I’ve tried I can’t even talk about yet because it’s sponsored lol. It’s pretty cool though. Literally, to give you a hint.
kookyrunner says
Thanks for that hint – I think I have an idea on what it might be. Cant wait for your review!
Dominique Cheylise says
I haven’t tried Orangetheory yet but I really want to! They’re opening one a couple minutes from my house this summer. I currently do CrossFit, but I’d like to see how Orangetheory compares.
kookyrunner says
Definitely stop by OTF when the new location opens up near you – you’re first class is free!
Sandra D Laflamme says
I keep hearing about SIS and think I need to try it. That looks like a great waistbelt. I prefer a handheld or a pack though.
kookyrunner says
I like my handheld bottles for shorter runs.
Chaitali says
I haven’t tried any of those yet! I’ve been using a handheld water bottle and haven’t tried a belt specifically because I’m afraid of it bouncing. I’ll have to keep this one in mind.
kookyrunner says
I was just like you – i was afraid of the bounce but this belt was great!
Laurie says
I am almost ashamed to tell you, I don’t think I have tried ANY new running products this year! I don’t do gels or gu or sugary drinks. I don’t have a Garmin, just a $10 Timex. Most of the running tops I wear are race premiums. I am pretty boring!
kookyrunner says
There’s no problem with that – if it’s working well then I say stick with it!
The Accidental Marathoner says
I loved the Salted Strawberry SiS gel but I didn’t particularly care for the Apple. I can’t wait to hear how you like the others!
kookyrunner says
I noticed that the apple wasn’t as smooth as the other flavors so I didn’t like that, but the flavor was okay for me.
Annmarie says
I love my Nathan handheld but have yet to try the waist pack! I will have to check it out – love that you can confirm it doesn’t bounce!
kookyrunner says
I haven’t used the waist packs in a long time so I was really worried about the bounce. I was pleasantly surprised that it stayed in place!
Marc Pelerin says
This a post that really got me thinking – I’m not sure that I’ve tried anything new. I suppose I retried gu during my marathon, but that’s really it I think.
kookyrunner says
It is hard to look back about new things that we’ve tried during the year – I actually forgot to add my Brooks sneakers to my blog post.
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
So I was gonna join the link party and then forgot. :-/ I’ve had a super long week and had a post scheduled for Tuesday but it auto-posted and I forgot about it with work and everything.
I’ve recently tried Huma gels which have been working well for me in this heat. Normally gels make me sick to my stomach but these seem to work pretty well. I also am interested in that Nathan belt you tried…I need something to use for longer runs that doesn’t bounce. Currently everything I have bounces and isn’t working for me. I may grab that.
kookyrunner says
I have used Huma gels in the past and really liked them! If you try out the belt, let me know how you like it!
