Happy Tuesday! I hope that you are all having a good week so far. I will admit that this week’s topic was a little hard for me since I actually don’t have a favorite book from 2019. Unfortunately I don’t read as much as I should (this should really be a new goal for me) but luckily I have so many blogger friends that read..a lot! Today I’m sharing some recommendations based on their reviews, and these are books I will plan to read this year. Since I write it down, I now have to hold myself accountable and do it!
This week’s topic – What’s your favorite book from 2019? You can write about this, or any other running related topic. Remember to Link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post!
26 Marathons: What I Learned About Faith, Identity, Running, and Life from My Marathon Career by Meb Keflezighi
I absolutely love Meb and have enjoyed his other books. This book has been on my “must read” list for a few months. I know a few runners that read the book last year and they really enjoyed it. I can’t wait to crack it open!
PUSH – A Guide to Living an All Out Life: The Story of Orangetheory Fitness by Ellen Latham
I started reading this book at the end of 2019 and I’m about half way through it. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that wants to learn more about the history and science behind Orangetheory Fitness.
Do you have a favorite book from 2019?

Topic for next week – Tell us about an injury that sidelined you from running and how you dealt with it.
Darlene says
Mebโs book is definitely on my reading list.
I read Deenaโs book and loved it.
I mostly read non running books. Just finished Where the crawdads sing.
kookyrunner says
Oh I forgot about Deena’s book – I’ll need to add that to my list. Thanks!
Wendy says
Last year was a great year for running books–there were so many releases! This year, not so much. My favorite book was Running with Sherman, about running with the donkey. That was really good! I hope you don’t mind that I dropped 2 links this week!
kookyrunner says
Thanks for that book recommendation – it sounds interesting!
Kimberly Hatting says
Oh, I love Meb, too! I have his other book, and it’s autographed…but I bookfess I haven’t read much of it…yet.
kookyrunner says
I have an autographed photo of him hanging in my room – it gives me so much inspiration!
Marcia says
I have no doubt Meb’s book is fabulous. I had the privilege to hear him speak last year and it’s always SO good to hear his common-sense wisdom. I really loved Dr. Stacy Sims’ book ROAR. It’s the first time someone addressed athletes over 40 who are not men. Lots of good science in there.
kookyrunner says
You’re the third person that has mentioned ROAR to me over the past few months – I’ll need to check it out!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I do still read, but not as much as I used to — much of the year was taken up with reading about Yoga!
I loved Meb for Mortals. Push sounds like it would be interesting. I started the book by the person who started Soul Cycle, but I never finished it. I was really hoping it would be inspirational but just didn’t find it to be.
kookyrunner says
I’ve read Meb for Mortals and loved it! That’s one reason I’m really looking forward to reading his other book.
Catrina says
Oh, I must get that Meb book! I somehow missed that one!
My favourite book of the year had very little to do with running: it was “Deep Work” by Cal Newport. It was all about working distraction-free and focusing deeply on the task at hand. A life-changing book for me!
kookyrunner says
Ohh that sounds like a great book – definitely something that would speak to me!
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
Currently reading Meb’s book and I love it! Definitely interesting to hear his perspective on different races, and to read about where he struggled and overcame!
kookyrunner says
I love Meb because he’s this super athlete but so down to Earth!
Liz Dexter says
I really want to read Meb’s book, I have to say. I have a big load of book tokens to spend later in the year when the Christmas / birthday book incoming excitement has died down.
My book of the year was Bernadine Evaristo’s “Girl, Woman, Other” (review here: https://librofulltime.wordpress.com/2019/10/30/book-review-bernadine-evaristo-girl-woman-other-amreading/) which was amazing, although not about running obvs. My top 12 is here and again, no running books but one walking one and some bloody good reads that might inspire https://librofulltime.wordpress.com/2020/01/01/state-of-the-tbr-january-2020-and-reading-stats-best-books-of-2019/
kookyrunner says
thanks so much for your book recommendation!
San says
Great recommendations, I’ll definitely put these on my to-read list!
kookyrunner says
Awesome – I think you will like them!
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
I have not read either of those and they both sound really interesting. Thanks for giving me some more book ideas. I’d like to read more non fiction books
kookyrunner says
no problem – happy that I could give you some books to add to your list!
Shathiso says
I started 2019 with every intention to return to my reading ways and I only managed 2 books. So this year I really want to get back into it, because I love it – and instead of saying I don’t have time, I should just say, 10 minutes before bed every day. And that’s completely doable. I would start with Michelle Obama’s Becoming, which has been sitting on my shelf since Christmas 2018.
kookyrunner says
Same! I always say “I’m going to read more” and then that never happens. I really need to make it a priority.
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
I loved 26 marathons! My pick for best running book of last year is Life is a Marathon by Matt Fitzgerald. I didn’t know about Push, but I heard Ellen when she was on the Ali on the Run podcast so I’ll definitely read that.
kookyrunner says
Thanks for the book recommendation – adding that one to my list!
Nicole Drinkwater says
This both sound great! I’ll have to add them to my must-read list.
kookyrunner says
Awesome, and hope that you like them!
Jenn says
I don’t read a lot of nonfiction. I did really enjoy A Simple Favor, though. And I started rereading the Game of Thrones series this year, and those are always a huge hit.
kookyrunner says
Thanks for the recommendation on A simple Favor – I will check it out!
Rachel says
Ooooh love this linkup! i need a new book to read. ๐ I rarely read nonfiction but the ones I have read I did learn a lot. Thank you!!!
kookyrunner says
Happy to provide 2 new book recommendations! ๐
Sandra Laflamme says
I haven’t heard of either of these books. I will have to check them out. One of my faves is a non running book-The Art of Racing in the Rain.
kookyrunner says
Thanks for the book recommendation – I’ll have to check it out!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Well how can you have time to read if you’re always in OTF classes. ๐ I have a different Meb book and have been wanting to read it too.
kookyrunner says
Lol true!
Cari says
Oh that injury one. I better get it togethet for that theme!
Enjoyed Meb. If you’re on FB, the Runners’ Bookshelf has some great recommendations regularly.
I’m a bookworm but I go through waves of whether I’m reading about running. So far this year it’s andie mitchell’s It was Me All Along hands down
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much for the book recommendation and I’ll check out that Facebook group too.
