Welcome to another edition of Tuesday Topics. We have a FREE topic this week so feel free to write about any running related topic! Today I’m sharing my favorite places to score deals on running gear!
Remember to Link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post!
Online Resale Websites
I know that that people either love or hate the resale websites but I’ve always been able to find some great deals on there. I only purchase items that are new with tags. On eBay I’ve purchased Brooks sports bras and a few workout shirts. I found a really awesome pair of brand new Nike running rights on Poshmark last year (at a super discount too). I’ve noticed that I find the best sales during the off season. For example, next month would be a good time to search listing for Winter running gear since we’re going into Spring. I’ve also heard good things about the ThredUp website but haven’t shopped on there yet.
Running Warehouse
I really like the Running Warehouse website because they have everything from nutrition items to running sneakers. When I was looking for a pair of Brooks sneakers, they were sold out in my size on the Brooks website but I was able to go to Running Warehouse and not only find the sneakers in my size, but for a little bit cheaper as well! They also offer free 2-day shipping and they have a great return policy. I’ve had to contact their customer service department twice and both times they were super friendly and accommodating.
Amazon
Of course Amazon had to be included in this list! I’ve actually found that Amazon is a great resource if you’re looking for “out of date” items. What I mean by that is any items from last season or the previous version of sneakers. I also love to shop Amazon to purchase any items for themed races because I can always find affordable items and because I’m an Amazon Prime member, I can get the items in 1-2 days.
Where do you shop for deals on running gear?

I have sold a bunch on Poshmark and have also scored some great deals on styles that I like but cannot find anymore.

I haven’t tried to sell on Poshmark yet but i have a few friends that have had such great success selling on there!

I try to buy as much as I can on resale – better for the environment and my budget! Along with the apps/websites, we have a local consignment store that specializes in athletic/outdoor gear and REI garage sales can be good too. I personally don’t care if things are used (apart from underwear, of course) – the worst I’ve gotten is things that were washed with really strong fabric softener, so nothing another wash won’t fix.
i also like Sierra Trading Post for new stuff.
kookyrunner says
That’s awesome that your town has a great consignment store! The only thing we have in my town is Goodwill and it’s a hit or miss.
I forgot about Sierra Trading Post – thanks for the reminder!

Love Running Warehouse! They always have such good deals. It’s much better for me to shop my sneakers in the US compared to Europe.
Also, I always look for a last-year edition of a shoe… the discount makes it worth it and the new changes are usually minor – not enough to justify paying full price.
kookyrunner says
Yup very true! I always love buying last year’s model.
Darlene says
Amazon for sure. Zappos for shoes.
Thanks for the tips.
kookyrunner says
Zappos is great too!
Marcia says
Running Warehouse and Amazon are my go-tos.
kookyrunner says
Same!

Although I have bought the last several pairs of shoes from Amazon and Brooks, I still get the majority of my non-shoe gear in-store. Hey, I’ve had great luck at Old Navy and Target, their “pricier” gear is still loads cheaper than the big name brand stuff. I have a a couple of fleece-lined shirts from Target that I’ve worn the past 4-5 winters (?) and both are still in great shape and the colors still bright & vivid.
kookyrunner says
I have a few items from the Champion C9 line from Target. Not sure if they still sell that there but it was really good quality and super affordable!

I do get some really great deals on Amazon. I put stuff in my shopping cart, move them to save for later, and then get amused watching the prices go up & down. It’s like the stock market, I swear!
But I have definitely snagged some great deals that way.
kookyrunner says
LOL I do the exact same thing on Amazon 🙂

Deborah Brooks turned me on to Poshmark and I have made over $1500 selling stuff there in just over 6 months! Lots of the items were brand-name running gear, new with tags, and they went like hotcakes. It’s a bummer Poshmark takes 20% of sales, but they have a huge user base so your stuff gets seen.
Just this weekend I posted items for the first time on Facebook. I posted to Tri ‘n’ Sell It, Marathon Maniacs, and RunDisney Marketplace. It was all running/workout related. Granted it was new stuff at great prices, but I made $535 in just over 24 hours! The nice thing is, no one takes a percentage. That allows me to price things a little lower than on Poshmark. I’d suggest you’d look into those FB groups for some great deals!
kookyrunner says
That’s amazing Linda! That’s a great way to get rid of items you no longer need and to make a good profit as well. I also loved what you did when you were selling items to fund raise for the marathon – such a great idea!
I will definitely look in those FB groups for items – thanks!
Wendy says
I’ve been selling my stuff on eBay because they don’t take as much % as Poshmark, but I have a few things that won’t move. I’ll have to consider Poshmark, or maybe what Linda did!
kookyrunner says
I really liked what Linda did – I thought it was super cool and a great way to get rid of the “middle man”!
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
Thred up is my go to for clothes! Amazon or Zappos for shoes.
kookyrunner says
I really need to try Thred Up!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
I do love Running Warehouse! Their return policy is great. I have also found great deals on running shoes – and I even buy them with if they are used with very low mileage. I’ve never had a problem receiving a “smelly” shoe or anything like that. Often the used shoes are from running stores and the shoes were returns when the shoe didn’t work for someone else – so low mileage.
kookyrunner says
Yes, their policy is great and their customer service is also top notch! I haven’t tried buying gently used sneakers before but I’m glad that you haven’t had any bad experiences with that. It helps when sellers are honest about the condition of the item!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I love Running Warehouse – it is always the first place I check! I need to explore some resale options – I keep hearing about some of the great deals people have found, but haven’t tried myself yet.
kookyrunner says
I always find that Running Warehouse has my size in sneakers. I guess size 8 is popular because it’s always sold out on the Brooks website lol
Jenn says
I have great luck on Old Navy sales. I have never really ventured to resale sites, mostly because I hate shopping 🙂 People find awesome deals there!
kookyrunner says
Me too! I’m a huge fan of the Old Navy clearance rack lol
Shathiso says
I’ve used Amazon but not Running Warehouse! Let me check them out. I love a good deal. I have a store here that’s my go-to called Mr Price Sport (it’s a South African chain) – lots of fun outfits for very good prices.
kookyrunner says
Definitely check out Running Warehouse, they have some great deals!
Zenaida Arroyo says
I like Zappos too because of their return policy….365 days!! I love Running Warehouse for sure since there are always some great sales. I like Amazon for gels, UCAN, etc.
kookyrunner says
That’s such a great return policy – I didn’t know that!
