Happy Tuesday! It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Topics. This week’s Tuesday Topic: why are you thankful for running? You can write about this or any running related topic. Remember to link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post.
Why am I thankful for running in 2021? While I’m always thankful for the ability to run, and exercise in general, but even more so this year. Coming off of 2020, I thought this year would be better, and it was in some ways, but in others it was worse.
I’m thankful to running for helping me work through my increased anxiety and levels of stress this year, especially in the Spring. My dad’s health battles earlier in the year were extremely stressful. If I couldn’t run or exercise, I don’t know how I would have been able to deal with everything. Working out was a release and a way for me to get out most of my frustration over the situation.
I’m thankful to running for my virtual support system. I was thankful for this last year and I’m definitely thankful for them again this year. Runners are a bit of a crazy breed, so it’s nice to have friends to talk to about virtual races, returning to in person races, injuries, etc.
Tell me: Why are you thankful for running?
I hope that you have an amazing Thanksgiving with friends and family!

I’m thankful that running has really helped me to get through this year. When I wasn’t running (because of my toenail procedure), I really struggled mentally and physically. So that 6 weeks lay off made me realise just how important running is to me.

I am always so thankful for the ability to move my body because I really don’t know how I would deal with stress if I couldn’t do that.

It’s a given our running community is tight, and something I don’t take for granted. The sport of running (and exercise in general) serves many purposes in my life, and I’m SOOO grateful for what it’s brought me–>physical health, mental well-being, and WORLD of fabulous friends, whom I consider family <3

I can’t even express how much I love the running community because it has given me so much – lifelong friends, confidence, structure, endless memories, etc.

I swear for the last 5 years or so, every year I think well this year has to be better . . . and yet it isn’t. So I do still try to look for the good things, for the most part, and the ability to run is definitely one.
I can’t even imagine how dealing with your Dad’s health issues & working full time had to have felt. Of course I’ve dealt with some similar issues, but still very different & I don’t have to work. I keep myself very busy but it’s not the same thing, I know!
I hope 2022 is a better year for both of us, although unfortunately for me I know it’s not going to be. 🙁
kookyrunner says
So sorry Judy 🙁 I know the last few years have been rough. I appreciate that you always try to have a positive outlook on things when you can.

Yes. I agree. I can’t imagine going through the pandemic and not running. Running is definitely my therapy. I am grateful for my running friends and my blogger friends. I know you guys get it.
Hope things get back to normal. We need a blogger meet up.
kookyrunner says
For sure! There’s no way I would have gotten through last year, even this year, without running and other forms of exercise.
Catrina says
It’s so good to have running when dealing with stressful situations! I’m glad your Dad is doing better now.
Blogging has been a great help, too. It’s an amazing community and so fascinating to follow everyone’s ups and downs, victories and struggles. It’s a wonderful support system.
Wishing you a relaxing Thanksgiving, Kim. Have you got a Turkey Trot lined up?
kookyrunner says
Thanks Catrina! The blogging community is awesome – I’ve met so many lifelong friends through blogging and running.
No Turkey Trot for me today but I did an OTF class this morning.

This past 1.5 years running was indeed my therapy. I had one person in my pod at the start of covid and we ran together the whole time. Having the escape of running in the midst of all the stress was everything. I am so grateful and thankful. I also became a much stronger and consistent runner during this time which I did not think was possible.
kookyrunner says
Escaping from the craziness of the world was much needed and I’m glad I could depend on running for that escape.
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
These have been crazy times for sure, and I’m thankful that running has been an outlet for me as well. I’m also very thankful for my running friends – it’ll be great to see friends at races again!
kookyrunner says
I can’t wait to see running friends again at races – I really miss that!

So many reasons to be thankful for running. Running gave me confidence in my body and is my ongoing therapy. i love moving, being outside, and sweating! I love the online community- such an amazing network of supportive people. There’s just nothing else like running.
kookyrunner says
Same for me Jenny! After I ran my first marathon, I had an instant confidence boost. It made me believe that I could really do anything if I set my mind to it.

I cannot imagine what I would have done throughout this pandemic without running/cycling/exercise. It’s been a lifesaver and the whole running community with it!
kookyrunner says
Same here! I totally get what people mean when they say they use running as a form of stress relief.

I agree, running is a good therapy for the mental health. While running we live in a parallel world where there are no anxieties and worries and, even if there were, the sense of freedom helps us to overcome them.
kookyrunner says
Perfectly said!
