Happy Tuesday! It’s time for another edition of Tuesday Topics. This week’s Tuesday Topic: What are your Winter running plans? You can write about this, or any other running topic. Remember to link-up with Kim and Zenaida and the bottom of this post.
I don’t have any Winter races on the schedule, but I’ll share some of my winter running plans.
I still like my short and sweet runs (3 miles and under) but at least twice a month during the Winter I am going to plan on doing 45-60 minute runs. I’m hoping this will help improve my endurance for the OTF DriTri in mid-March.
I’ve been seriously slacking on outdoor running for the past year or so. I have just gotten into the habit of going to the basement to run on the treadmill since it’s so convenient. Also I don’t feel safe running outdoors during the week since it’s still very dark outside in the mornings. But this Winter I definitely want to start by getting in more weekend outdoor runs, and then maybe a few lunchtime runs during the week.
I’m also hoping to get back to lunchtime walks. I always feel like I’m more productive when I get some fresh air in the middle of the day.
Tell me: What are your winter running plans?

Agreed, I always feel invigorated after a mid-day walk or run outside.
I plan to keep running at least twice a week and perhaps fit in a winter race. I’ve never done a St. Paddy’s Day race so maybe I’ll do one this year!

That’s a great idea about a St. Paddy’s day race. I’ve done a St Paddy’s Day 5K a few times and it’s always been so much fun!

If possible I try to run at lunch. And if after work at a college campus with lights.
These runs are short. I enjoy my longer runs on the weekends.
I do plan on some races.
Winter is not my favorite season. I need more daylight.
kookyrunner says
That’s great that you have a well-lit college campus that you can use for your runs. I can always go to the park, but it gets a little boring doing the same loop so many times.

For me outdoor running is life BUT running in the dark is a big no-no just from a safety perspective, so I completely get where you are coming from. I hope you’re able to do some lunch runs and weekend ones too as that fresh air is good for the soul!
kookyrunner says
Totally agree with you. I spend SO much time indoors that i need to get outside more.
Jenn says
I wish our weather was better for outdoor lunchtime fitness. It’s usually just too sunny and warm for it.
kookyrunner says
Totally understand – i imagine the humidity also makes it hard to run mid-day as well.
Catrina says
Oh yes, I hope you get to go outdoors more this winter. Even if it’s just a lunch walk, it makes an enormous difference to one’s well-being!
kookyrunner says
100% agree! And we’ve had a mild Winter so far (except for a few days of sub-zero temps) so I want to take advantage of that.
Deborah Brooks says
I definitely feel invigorated to get outside during the winter. Hope you find a schedule that works for you!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Deborah!

I’m not a fan of running in the dark either, especially on these little country lanes. My husband runs in the morning but he’s out so early that there’s almost nobody else around. I wait until late morning when it’s light and a bit warmer too, but of course this isn’t doable unless you work from home and have a flexible job. Lunchtime runs and walks sounds like a good option!
kookyrunner says
I’m definitely looking forward to the lunchtime walks!

I can understand being reluctant to run outside when it is dark. I look like a Christmas tree with all of the lights I have with me. 🙂 Nothing wrong with running on a treadmill. A mile run indoors is the same as running outside.

Morning run is such a good one for me, although I’ve never made runch work with my schedule. I’d also be tempted for the safety and climate control of the treadmill
