It’s the first Tuesday of the month so today’s theme is Motivation. What songs motivate you? It could be an uptempo beat, or the songs lyrics that motivate you to run a little faster or workout more in the gym. Here are two songs I use for motivation:
Song: Roar
Album: Prism
Artist: Katy Perry
Genre: Pop
Year Released: August 2013
Motivational Lyrics
“You held me down, but I got up (hey!)
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, your hear that sound
Like thunder, gonna shake your ground
You held me down, but I got up
Get ready ’cause I’ve had enough
I see it all, I see it now
I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter
Dancing through the fire
‘Cause I am the champion, and you’re gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
‘Cause I am a champion, and you’re gonna hear me roar!”
The song isn’t as high tempo as most of the workout songs on my playlist, but I love the chorus and the message in the song. At some point during training for a race, or just life in general, we’ll get knocked down but we have to remember to get back up, brush off our shoulders and keep moving forward!
Song: Beautiful Day
Album: All That You Can’t Leave Behind
Artist: U2
Genre: Rock
Year Released: October 2000
Motivational Lyrics
“It’s a beautiful day
Sky falls, you feel like
It’s a beautiful day
Don’t let it get away”
I mean…it’s U2! All their songs are great but this is one of my favorite songs from the band. The lead singer, Bono, has said that the song is about losing everything, but still finding joy in what one has. If that’s not motivation, I don’t know what is.
What songs motivate you? Let us know by adding your blog post to the link up below!

I remember I had “Roar” on my playlist when I was marathon training in 2013! It definitely gave me the motivation to get through tough long run!

Me too! The lyrics just make you want to conquer anything!

Two great songs! I often forget about U2 until someone reminds me!

Me too! I picked random on one of my playlists last week and that song popped up.

I didn’t quite get Roar, but I do like Firework. I’m pretty sure I had it on my playlist for my 10k last year.

I’ll admit the video for Roar was a little weird, but I love the song. Firework is another great one!

I’ve had both these songs on my playlist over the years. One U2 song I love to play loud enough to blow up my speakers is Where the Streets Have No Name. Oh my gosh–that intro. I watched the documentary “It Might Get Loud” where they featured The Edge, Jack White, and Jimmy Page. They featured that song and it was amazing. I get goosebumps every time I hear it.
I know I’m going to need a hearing aid, probably very soon.

OMG how funny — I put BOTH of these songs on my marathon playlist last week!

Great picks! I have definitely been motivated by both of these songs on the run!

Sometimes we just need a song to give us an extra push!

Love both songs!!! I need to download them to my playlist. I also love “With or Without You.”

That’s one of my favorite U2 songs as well!
