Today is the last Tuesday of the month so our theme is current jams. I’m thrilled to be hosting this link up each week with Janelle and Steff ! Remember that starting next week, we will be moving Tunes Tuesday from a weekly to monthly format. We will still have themes but feel that a monthly format may help more people participate. The theme for August will be End of Summer Songs and the post will go live on August 1st.
I’m going off topic this week to pay tribute to Linkin Park, one of my favorite bands. Their lead singer, Chester Bennington, died last week. I honestly couldn’t believe the news when I heard it. Linkin Park songs are included in ALL of my playlists. I listen to their songs every week and have been a huge fan of theirs for many, many years.
There were so many things to love about the group. Their debut album, Hybrid Theory, was a HUGE success. It definitely spoke to my generation at the time. I think the best thing was their crossover album with Jay Z. I literally played out that CD, it was so damn good! What Chester and Jay Z were able to do was incredible. It was the best crossover of rock and rap since Aerosmith and Run DMC. The songs still hold up over a decade later. Today’s post will feature some of my favorite songs from the group.

Linkin Park’s new album, One More Light, was released earlier this year. It has more of a pop/rock sound. ‘Heavy‘, the first song released from the album, is beautiful. There are many other Linkin Park songs that I love, but the beats are a little slow for working out. Chester was such an awesome vocalist. He is really, really going to be missed.
Were you a fan of Lincoln Park’s music? If so, what was your favorite song?

Great minds think alike friend! I forgot about Bleed It Out. Such a great song!

I love that we all selected Linkin Park for today’s Tunes Tuesday post. I’m really going to miss Chester’s talent and voice.

I think we were all thinking about Linkin Park this week. Such a sad loss. I really need to check out their newer music, so much to explore! I love Jay-Z’s/Linkin Park’s mashup of One Step Closer and 99 Problems…there’s a great video of it on YT, I should have included it!

Definitely. It was such a shock to hear the news last week. The Collision Course CD was tha bomb! I loved all the songs on it and I wish they had done more!

So sad to hear that news. What I’ve Done is a permanent fixture on my playlist.

It really is so sad – I still can’t believe it. So many of their songs are in all of my playlists.

I honestly am still trying to process this news. I absolutely love Linkin Park and have to say that many of the songs have gotten me through really hard times. I am very, very sad that he took his own life but once again we are reminded that mental illness and depression are not something you just “get over”. I feel like Chester at times was writing one long suicide note. I had always hoped that he would get through was he was going through but I guess it was too much.
My friend Lucy took her own life almost 3 years ago now and I listened to LP a lot to help me understand and come to grips with how she may have been feeling. And “Robot Boy” is the song that I still can not listen to without streams of tears coming from my eyes. It makes me think of her. And now, the sadness had doubled on that one.

I re-listened to a lot of their songs over the weekend when I was working on this blog post and I feel like many of the lyrics were a cry for help from Chester. I’m just sad that in the end, no one was able to help him.
I’m so sorry to hear about your friend Lucy. It’s remarkable that LP’s music has meant so much to so many, and I’m sure has gotten people through some very tough times.

Oh, I was so sad to hear about Chester’s passing. I loved Linkin Park and their music, and even though it’s one of their most popular songs, I really loved ‘In the End’…
kookyrunner says
Me too. That’s one of my favorites as well.
