Happy Sunday! I hope that you had a great first week of 2023. My week didn’t go exactly as planned as I’m pretty sure I had the flu. Thankfully I’m feeling much better now, but I would like a re-do to the start of 2023, lol.
Here’s how my workouts went this week:
Monday, January 2
Top 50 of 2022 Walk + Run: #50-41 12/16/22 – Camila (30 minutes)
JKE: New Year’s Special 12/30/22 – Jess K (30 minutes)
Orangetheory Fitness – Tornado Template (60 minutes)
First OTF class of 2023 and it was a tornado workout. I think we spent about 4-5 minutes on each station before switching. There was a LOT going on and sometimes it was hard to keep up but it was still a great class.
Tuesday, January 3
Daft Punk Core Strength 12/30/22 – Robin (20 minutes)
Daft Punk Run 12/30/22 – Olivia (30 minutes)
Extra 10: Run 11/28/22 – Olivia (10 minutes)
Daft Punk Ride 12/30/22 – Ben (30 minutes)
Daft Punk Power Yoga Flow 12/30/22 – Nico (30 minutes)
These Daft Punk classes were exactly what I needed – fun, challenging and great playlist. I forgot how many of their songs I like – there’s a lot!
Wednesday, January 4
Meditation for Healing 12/8/22 – Aditi (5 minutes)
Top 50 Music Yoga Flow: #20-11 12/29/22 – Aditi (30 minutes)
This is the part of the week where everything went down hill. Around midnight I started to have all the common flu symptoms – fever, chills, sweats, cough and a splitting headache. I didn’t get any sleep and had to late cancel my morning OTF class (something I have never done since starting OTF). I also called off work (something I haven’t done in at least 5 years). I didn’t go to urgent care because although I was feeling horrible, I could still manage everything at home with over the counter medicine.
The meditation and yoga class were the only things I had energy for as I mainly slept for most of the day, but did make sure that I ate soup and crackers and drank plenty of water and tea so that I could continuously take medicine.
Thursday, January 5
Breathing Meditation 1/5/23 – Kirra (5 minutes)
Focus Flow: Floor Poses 1/20/22 – Kristin (20 minutes)
After getting what felt like 20 hours of sleep, I felt slightly better when I woke up, but still not well enough to do any major movement or log into work. I spent most of the day awake, but in bed. My energy level was still pretty low. My fever finally broke toward the end of the night.
Friday, January 6
New Year’s Day Recovery Walk 12/31/22 – Joslyn (20 minutes)
2000s Walk 1/15/23 – Jess (15 minutes)
Top 50 Music Ride: #30-21 12/28/22 – Kendall (30 minutes)
I woke up with way more energy – I was so happy! I felt well enough to log in to work. I guess that technically I could have just taken off the rest of the week, but I didn’t want to fall too far behind on projects. Also I knew I could keep my camera off for any meetings so that was another factor in my decision as well (because trust me, no one would want me to have my camera on for calls, lol).
The walk and ride were perfect for me to take it easy, while still getting in a great workout and a good sweat.
Saturday, January 7
Top 50 Music Walk + Run #40-31 12/27/22 – Jermaine (30 minutes)
Top 50 Music Walk + Run #30-21 12/28/22 – Olivia (30 minutes)
Top 50 Music Lower Body Strength: #40-31 12/27/22 – Logan (30 minutes)
I knew I wanted to see how it felt to run, but I didn’t want to overdo it, so I decided to do a walk + run class. I felt good after the first walk + run class so I decided to do another one. It was honestly just what my body needed. I also enjoyed Logan’s lower body strength class as well.
Sunday, January 8
Top 50 Music Walk + Run: #20-11 12/29/22 – Kirsten (30 minutes)
Intervals Run 12/15/22 – Jess (15 minutes)
Top 50 Music Upper Body Strength: #20-11 12/29/22 – Ben (30 minutes)
Flash 15 12/1/22 – Jess (15 minutes)
When I woke up today I felt about 90% better which I’ll take as a huge win. I’m still sticking to walk + runs for my cardio since I don’t want to do too much too soon, but I felt well enough to do my 45 minutes of strength training so I’m still on track at keeping Sundays as my long strength training days.
Ben’s upper body strength class was great – it had 4 different circuits, all focusing on different upper body areas, but it didn’t feel too repetitive or boring.
This week’s stats:
Bootcamp – 0 minutes
Cycle – 18.36 miles
Orangetheory Fitness – 60 minutes
Running – 14 miles
Strength Training – 95 minutes
Peloton Artist Series Classes – 912/918*
*not including rowing classes
Well it definitely wasn’t the first week of the year that I wanted, but you have to deal with the hand that you’ve been dealt. Honestly, I am glad that it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. I know of people who have been knocked down with the flu for 5 or more days. Obviously I am not a medical professional, but I do think that that taking Zicam very early on helped minimize the length of time I was sick. I was around someone last Sunday that tested positive for the flu on Sunday night. Once I knew that, I knew there was a chance I would get it, so I started taking Zicam that night, and also on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday were the hardest days for me, but by Friday I could feel like I was turning a corner.
I hope to be back to my regular schedule next week, starting with an OTF class on Monday morning (which is weather permitting since we’re expecting sleet and snow overnight). Fingers crossed that I can get my “new year re-do” next week!
…and now for this week’s memes/funny tweets.
That’s it! I hope you had a great week 🙂
I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

LOL! Those memes are great.
Sorry to hear you were sick… at least it did not last long. So many people are getting sick with the flu. More than COVID!
Hope that you are 100% by next week.
kookyrunner says
It seems like Covid and the flu are running rampant everywhere!
Wendy says
Ugh, the flu! So many people have had it. Interesting about the Zicam and I’m so happy it helped you feel better. An amazing week of workouts, all things considered!
kookyrunner says
I feel like everyone I know either has the flu or Covid 🙁 I’m thankful I wasn’t down for the count too long – I missed my workouts, lol.
Susanne says
I’m so sorry to hear about your illness! Hope you’re back to normal soon. The “Christmas January” meme was hilarious. And I can totally relate to the Google at 3 am one!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Susanne! I am happy that I am feeling a lot better and that it didn’t last too long. The 3am meme is me every night lol.
Jenny says
Arg! So sorry you were sick- but that’s interesting about Zicam. Two days definitely isn’t so bad. I love the “Christmas January”/”real January” meme. So true.
Goad you’re feeling better!
kookyrunner says
I was surprised about the Zicam as well. I didn’t really think it would work but it sure seems like it did!
Kimberly Hatting says
So sorry you were down and out for a few days. Glad you’ve rallied back. You are so committed to hitting all those Peloton artist series, and the Top 50 classes! Very impressive! I hit some of the Top 50’s…just not ALL of them. I did manage to at least get all five decades in one form or another. I hope week-2 of ’23 goes much better 😉
kookyrunner says
These Top 50 classes are so odd to me – the playlists are truly all over the place and I didn’t know some of the songs in the #10-1 countdown – which was odd since those were the most popular of the year!
Deborah Brooks says
So many people have been sick the last few weeks. Hope you are feeling back to yourself this week. You always inspire me to try new classes! This week has to be better right!?
kookyrunner says
Yes! This week has to be better – I will not accept otherwise, lol.
Michelle says
Ugh to the flu – I’m sorry you’ve been sick. You did a great job getting some movement in regardless. I hope you continue to feel better and have a great week this week!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Michelle! Not the kick-off to 2023 that I wanted but all things considered, I am glad it wasn’t worse.
Coco says
Oh, so sorry you got sick, Kim. Glad you are feeling better now.
You still packed in a lot of Peloton classes — and OTF too.
I haven’t tried any of the Daft Punk classes yet. There’s so much to keep up with!
kookyrunner says
I agree – so much content to catch up on for Peloton between the top 50 music classes and artists series
San says
Oh no, I am so sorry to hear you were sick. You still got a good amount of workouts in – I hope you also took a lot of rest! Hope you feel back to normal so you can crush this new week!
kookyrunner says
Thanks San! I definitely got a good amount of rest, especially that day I slept for hours on end lol.
Marcia says
Ugh so sorry about the flu! There are so many bugs flying around right now, I’m paranoid about getting sick again! I too have enjoyed some of the Daft Punk workouts! Glad you’re feeling better!
kookyrunner says
So many different illnesses going around now. I dodged it as long as I could lol.
Debbie says
I’m so sorry to hear that you were sick, but glad that it didn’t last long and that you’re feeling much better. I agree, you need a New Year re-do!
LOL on the chicken meme regarding the price of eggs going up!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Debbie! I am glad it was a short lived illness too.
I hate that the egg meme is true, but it is pretty funny, lol.
Shathiso says
Love that meme – Christmas January is crazy and the transition to real January is always so dramatic!
So sorry to hear about your rough start to the year. But glad it was relatively short-lived and hopefully your sick-time is over for the rest of the year! Good to get it out of the way at the start, I say! LOL.
Jenn says
Oh, no! The flu is awful this year. I’m so sorry it got you, but am thrilled you are feeling better. Onward and upward, right?
Zenaida Arroyo says
Glad you hear you are feeling better! No one has time to get sick, right? :-). I’ve never heard of Zicam so I looked it up. Interesting to know if I ever need it next time I get sick. I cannot get over how expensive eggs are! It’s like the price more than doubled!
kookyrunner says
Definitely no time to get sick lol. Although the extra sleep was nice.
