Happy Sunday! Welcome to race week! I have to admit that the taper crazies actually got to me this week. The taper normally doesn’t effect me but last week I felt pretty achy. This week my body felt find but mentally I was struggling. I had a little bit of anxiety which really messed up my sleep. I’m not a great sleeper anyway so this was definitely NOT welcomed, lol.
Despite the taper crazies, here’s my recap for week 14, and my last week of marathon training:
Monday, October 7
OrangeTheory Fitness – Endurance (60 minutes).
My last hard effort workout for the week!
Tuesday, October 8
Spinning (30 minutes) + core work (10 minutes).
Keeping my promise to myself to keep things light for the rest of the week.
Wednesday, October 9
3 mile run.
This run was really helpful. I felt a little less “wound up” after the run which was good because I felt like I was on edge all day.
I also received my yearly rejection letter for the London Marathon, lol. I don’t know anyone that got in through the ballot this year – Do you?
Thursday, October 10
2 mile run.
OMG – this was such a crazy day at work! I probably clocked a good 10-11 hours of work just making sure things were completed before my vacation next week.
I also got in a 2 mile run and had my last ART appointment to make sure my body was aligned properly for race day!
Friday, October 11
Rest Day/Travel Day. The flight was decent and we arrived early but had to sit on the tarmac for a while because of the weather (it was pouring when we landed). Chicago traffic is always a nightmare so I ended up getting to the hotel later than expected but still managed to get to the Expo around 12:30. The Expo was INSANE. I literally just got my stuff, said “Hi” to Renee and Marcia and then left, lol.
Saturday, October 12
International Chicago 5K.
Okay, so the real feel of 28 degrees at the start of the race was a shock to the system, but other than that it was a good race. Michelle, her husband, my mom and I took a Lyft over to the start and attempted to stay warm in the corrals, lol. A few crowded spots but overall I felt good after the run and didn’t push the pace.
Later on in the morning, I met up with a few blogger/IG friends for Brunch at Beatrix. It was absolutely delicious and I so enjoyed meeting up with all the ladies. It was an amazing, positive vibe.
Sunday, October 13
Chicago Marathon! In short – it wasn’t my day, or the race I trained for, but I’m actually okay with that! Race recap coming later on this week.
Total Weekly Mileage: 36.6 miles
Marathon Training Miles: 386.3 miles
Summary: 5 runs, 1 strength training workouts, 1 core workout, 1 spinning class
Grade This Week – A
Thanks to everyone that has offered words of encouragement and support during my training for this race. I really felt all the love!
Also, this meme made me LOL.
That’s it! I hope you had a great week 🙂
I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
In Case You Missed It
Tuesday Topics: Themed Races – Yay or Nay?
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
Ok Kim I am sorry that you did not have the day you expected. It was truly so motivating to watch you power through all your summer runs. All of those early morning runs in crazy heat are the real win. The actual race day is just a victory lap.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Deborah! I am still really proud of my training and I did enjoy the race which was my main goal 🙂
Kimberly Hatting says
Sorry the race didn’t go as planned…but we never know what the day itself will serve us. Your attitude to enjoy the race was spot-on, though. Honestly, (as I told you on Insta), 26.2 miles are tough to slay, no matter what kind of day any of us have. That finish line, though, is all YOURS. You had a great training cycle, and that saw you through a tough race (when others may have bailed). You’re still a #badass rock star in my mind 😉 Congrats on another marathon, Kim!!!!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much #kimtwin! Your support during training really meant a lot to me 🙂
Coco says
I would be shocked by 29F temperatures for sure! I’m sorry the race didn’t go your way, but glad you had a good time in Chicago. You trained so hard and do diligently. I hope you’re proud of all you accomplished.
kookyrunner says
Yeah Saturday morning was a bit crazy. I was not prepared for that weather. I love Winter, but I need to ease into it, lol.
I’m really proud of my training and even though race day didn’t go well, I’m super happy with the experience overall.
Wendy says
You looked strong when we saw you and I am so GLAD that I saw you. I wish we lived closer. We could commiserate about how hard it is to run long distances!
Congrats on your PR! That is winning!
kookyrunner says
Yes, you saw me before the wheels fell off, lol. My legs were in just so much pain – it was super bizarre! Oh well, I still got a course PR so I’m thrilled with that!
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
Congrats on your race! I hear you when you say it wasn’t your day but I also see Wendy’s comment about a PR…I can’t wait to hear what that’s about. And lol on the meme hee hee
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I got a course PR, so I’m really happy with that!
Liz Dexter says
Looking forward to your race report and WELL DONE! Also I LOVE all the meet-up pics, esp of the bloggers I “know” from the Weekly Wrap! Now rest and claim some of that sleep back!
kookyrunner says
This weekend was so much fun! I loved meeting up with bloggers in real life.
Bozhidar says
Even if it wasn’t your day that doesn’t mean it won’t be again for your next races. Keep up with the training and you will get there.
kookyrunner says
Thanks!
Chaitali says
I’m sorry race day didn’t go the way you wanted 🙁 But it looks like you’re making the most of your time in Chicago and having fun! I hope you have a good vacation during the week too.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! Definitely not the time that I think I trained for, but I am still so happy with the overall experience.
Laetitia says
I’m sorry you didn’t have the race you wanted after all the training that you did. I hope you still had a blast. I was so amazed by the crowd support. I’m also so glad it warmed up on sunday. Saturday was SO cold. Did you get the hats from the International 5K?
kookyrunner says
I definitely still had a blast! I really wanted to enjoy the energy of the race and I did 🙂
We did get hats from the International 5K, but many people didn’t. Honestly, the end of it wasn’t that well organized. Runners were taking more than one hat and non-runners were as well, so most runners in the last corral didn’t get a hat, including my mom (I gave her mine).
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Race day can be a crazy thing – never know what we’re going to get. Nonetheless, you completed your 4th marathon and that’s huge! Congratulations! Loved getting to spend time with you again this weekend! Enjoy your time off – you’ve certainly earned it!!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Michelle! This was such a fun weekend – I was sad to have to come back home, lol.
Marcia says
Oh yes. Most definitely an A week for you! Thanks SO much for coming to see me at the Now booth. Such a fun surprise. And I’m so glad we spotted you at mile 13.5! I hope you’re feeling good today!
kookyrunner says
So happy I got to see you twice this weekend – definitely an added bonus to the weekend!
Yesterday my legs felt trashed but today they felt a little better when I woke up 🙂
Elaine says
You never know what’s going to happen on race day right? But it sounds like you’re at peace with how it went. I saw Jordan Hasay’s Instagram post talking about being healthy for the race and expecting a great finish. But somehow her hamstring bothered her at mile 2 and she had to pull out of the race. This is what makes a marathon a wondrous event 🙂 Congrats on the finish!
kookyrunner says
I felt so sorry for Jordan 🙁 It’s so true that you can have great training and be healthy but anything can derail you on race day.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Congrats on your marathon! Sorry it didnt go as planned but you still finished and it seems like you had an awesome weekend! So fun that you got to hang out with so many bloggers while you were there.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Lisa! The whole weekend was so much fun so I really have no complaints!
Jenn says
Ohmigosh I love everything about this. EVERYTHING!
You are amazing!
Anxiety messes with my sleep, too. It’s super annoying but what can you do? With Chicago out of the way, I hope you can start to settle down a bit. <3
Congratulations!
kookyrunner says
My sleep has been a bit better over the past few days so I’m hoping I can get back on track.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I’m so sorry the marathon didn’t go as planned. You really seemed right on track, but I know that anything can happen over 26.2 miles. Looks like you had an incredible weekend, even so!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Judy. The first half of the race went fine but then it kind of fell apart the second half.
Madhusree says
Sorry to hear that the race didn’t go your way…We all know how hard you trained for it…I’m sure that your next one will be a blast…
kookyrunner says
Thanks!
Zenaida Arroyo says
I am sorry to hear it didn’t go like you expected. But you finished another marathon!! Congrats!!!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Zenaida!
