Happy Sunday! Why is it that the shorter weeks always feel so much longer? This 4 day work week seemed to drag on forever. I was so happy when we finally made it to Friday.
Although the week seemed long, luckily this was a cut back week in my training and I really needed it. I appreciate the shorter long run this weekend and shorter runs during the week too.
Here’s my recap for week 9 of marathon training:
Monday, September 2
OrangeTheory Fitness – Strength 3G (60 minutes).
Kicked off the week with another OTF class. This was another 3G format and I’m just really not a fan. I much prefer the Orange 60 format which only has people on two stations vs 3 stations. The one thing I did appreciate was that there were a lot of pushes on the treadmill since we kept switching from the rower to the treadmills every 2-3 minutes. The floor portion had us do a lot of moves with heavier weights which I enjoyed too.
Tuesday, September 3
Spinning (60 minutes) + core work (10 minutes).
When I got home I took one look at my running sneakers and just sighed. I really didn’t want to run, so I didn’t. I just needed a break and I was missing my Peloton bike so this was the perfect opportunity to get back on it. I did two 30 minute classes and felt great after.
Wednesday, September 4
3 mile run + boot camp (60 minutes).
I usually don’t run on Wednesdays but I wanted to get in a few miles before class. After class it felt good to slide my feet into my new Oofos OOahh Sport Slides. I am testing these out as a BibRave Pro and they have felt so good so far. If you’re interested in purchasing a pair for yourself, 3% of the sales from the slides go to the breast cancer research team at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston!
Thursday, September 5
6 mile run + core work (10 minutes).
Nothing special to report, just another 6 miles in the #marathontraining bank.
Friday, September 6
OrangeTheory Fitness – Strength (60 minutes).
Since my long was on Sunday this week, I switched up my rest days. Fridays are normally my rest days but I decided to do an OTF class instead. This class was pretty tough between the inclines on the treadmills and the heavy weights during the floor portion.
Saturday, September 7
Rest Day! Traveled to Westerly, RI for the Surftown Half Marathon. This was my first visit to Rhode Island – it’s a very pretty state!
Sunday, September 8
Surftown Half Marathon (13.2 miles)
Overall I’m really happy with how this race went today. Also I got to meet Darlene and spent most of the weekend with Michelle 🙂 I’ll have a full recap on the blog on Tuesday.
I also used this race as my NYRR Virtual Halfway There 13.1 race. I really like this concept because it’s nice to connect with other runners on Strava that are training for Fall races, and it’s free! Bonus – if you show your Strava badge of completion at the TCS New York City Marathon Expo, you’ll get a free gift. I’m hoping to claim mine when I volunteer at the Expo.
Total Weekly Mileage: 26 miles
Marathon Training Miles: 235.5 miles
Summary: 5 runs, 2 spinning classes, 3 strength training workouts, 2 core workouts
Grade This Week – A
Just a little over a month until the Chicago Marathon. I will not freak out I will not freak out, lol. But seriously, I’m super excited and I’m also trying to find my race day outfit – well more like the shirt. I saw this one which I thought was pretty cool. I also like this one but don’t want to spend that much on a tank I may only wear once.
The cooler weather this weekend was great! It’s nice when you can run and breathe since the heat and humidity is much lower. My runs were pretty good this week. I went to my ART doctor on Thursday so that helped to get everything back into alignment (which is probably why I didn’t have back pain on today’s run). The next few weeks of training are going to be intense so I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that things continue to go well.
That’s it! I hope you had a great week 🙂
I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

Thanks Wendy! It was a pretty fun weekend!
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
So glad that your race went well! You have really been in a great training cycle. How fun to hang out with Darlene and Michelle. Can’t wait to read all about it
kookyrunner says
Thanks Deborah! I was pleasantly surprised that the race went pretty well today.
Kimberly Hatting says
Glad to hear everything went well! Wish I could have joined in on the fun. Did you two plan on matching shoes? Cuz, I have those Adrenalines, too 😉
kookyrunner says
We wish you could have joined too! We’ll need to find a race we can all do next year.
And no, we didn’t plan on matching sneakers lol
Laurie says
I love reading about your varied fitness routine! You have so much going on in a week – no 2 days are the same! Looking forward to reading about your RI half. My sister used to live in Providence and I always loved visiting and running in RI.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Laurie! I feel lie this training cycle is going by quickly because eI’m really keeping busy with different things.
Rhode Island is such a pretty state!
Coco says
No reason to freak out over Chicago — you’re training is going so well! How fun that you got to see Michele and Darlene for the Half. Way to go! I prefer the 2G OTF fomat too, but most of my classes are 3G. The good coaches help it go smoothly, but I prefer single switch days over multiple switches so you don’t lose too much time transitioning.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Coco! This was a really fun weekend – I’ve missed using races as long runs.
Yeah the 3G format is just not my jam for OTF – I’m going to try to avoid them in the future if I can.
Jessie says
Yay for a cutback week! You got in such a great variety of workouts, nice work on the half too. I can’t believe Chicago is so close!!! Exciting!
kookyrunner says
I know – I can’t believe it will be here in a few weeks!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
You had another great week! I’m so glad we got to catch up and hang out!
kookyrunner says
Yes! So glad we got to hang out. See you next month!
Liz Dexter says
Hooray for cut-back week and having better weather, too. And yay for meeting up! I was reading about Chicago because our very own Sir Mo Farah is coming over to try to retain his title. Send him good speed from (slightly) behind him! I’ve never run in his footsteps myself. Hope this coming week goes well for you.
kookyrunner says
I heard about Mo Farah running Chicago – how awesome! Hopefully he’ll be at the expo at somepoint during the weekend – I’d love to get a photo with him!
Darlene says
So fun to meet you.
You will rock that marathon.
I have an appt with my ART chiro tomorrow.
I’m freaking because it’s supposed to rain most of the week including Sat.
kookyrunner says
Hope your ART appt goes well tomorrow!
I saw rain in the forecast – I hope that it holds off for the weekend.
Laetitia says
Congrats on the half marathon, sounds like you had a great week!! And I too don’t love the 3G format at OTF.
ps: I keep seeing these Oofos OOahh Sport Slides everywhere. Are they really that good??
kookyrunner says
The Oofos are really good, especially after a long run. They really help my tired feet feel so much better. I actually wore them on the ride home yesterday from my race.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Great job with your training and the race! I cant believe Chicago is only a month away. You’re going to do great!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Lisa!
jenn says

Love that you got to have a little blogger meetup at Surftown! How fun is that!
Chicago is getting sooooo close! I’m so excited for you?
kookyrunner says
It was so nice to meet up with Darlene and Michelle!
Andrea Signor says
What a great week! I’ve never been to Rhode Island, but I’ve always wanted to visit. I bet the start of fall is the perfect time to visit!
kookyrunner says
You’re probably right – the change in colors would probably be awesome!
Sandra D Laflamme says
I’d love to try those OOfos slides, they look so comfy. And the Surftown half sounds like a lot of fun. I might have to come down for that some year! Keep up the great work with your training!
kookyrunner says
Definitely check out Surftown if you can!
Cari says
Yeah the Sarah Marie are so spendy and base don my Paula… shirt, not that great quality either. Congrats on a sold week
kookyrunner says
Yeah I think I’m going to skip the SMDS shirt and probably go with the one I liked to – it’s between that one and another tank on that website.
Angela says
Sounds like a very solid week! Congratulation on the half marathon!! So fun that you got to meet up with fellow bloggers too 🙂
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Angela!
Kaila says
You are gonna kill this race, girl!! Way to go on the training so far. Very inspiring!!
kookyrunner says
hanks so much Kaila. I really appreciate the kind words!
Esther says
Girl, I am so proud of you! Way to listen to your body, but also still get in the training!
How fun to meet up with fellow bloggers for your half!
Hope the rest of your training goes well!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Esther! It was great to meet up with Michelle and Darlene this weekend – so much fun!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Those are both great choices for your race day tank! I guessing you would get a lot of wear out of both of them really. I have bought several shirts from Gone For a Run and have loved them all if that helps you any! Great job on your training this week!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Lisa! I’m leaning more towards buying a tank from Gone For a Run – just deciding between two options. I’m glad that you like the shorts you’ve purchased from there!
Allie says
How awesome you did Surftown! That is pretty close to where I am in CT. I think we need to meet up at some point!!
I’m glad you took the day off from running when you weren’t feeling it. That is a HARD thing to do but your runs (and running motivation) are better for it!!
Hope your having a good run week and enjoying these cool temps while they last 🙂
kookyrunner says
We definitely need to meet up, and listen to some Lenny Kravitz 🙂
