Happy Sunday! And just like that, the first month of the year is over. It felt like a very long and busy month, so I hope February feels a little less hectic.
Here’s a recap of my week in workouts:
Monday, January 24
Pre-Run Warm Up 8/9/19 – Becs (5 minutes)
Walk + Run 1/18/22 – Jess (20 minutes)
Walk + Run 1/20/22 – Jess (20 minutes)
Hike 1/11/22 – Jess (20 minutes)
Advanced Bodyweight Strength 9/30/19 – Jess (30 minutes)
Joni Mitchell Yoga Flow 1/24/22 – Ross (30 minutes)
#nevermissamonday! I knew I wouldn’t be getting on the bike after yesterday’s PeloFondo. The walk + run classes were perfect and not too taxing on my legs. The bodyweight class was spicy – I think Jess picked some of the hardest bodyweight exercises and threw them all into that class. Luckily I didn’t have any meetings during lunch time so I was able to fit in a yoga class. It was nice way to break up the work day.
Tuesday, January 25
Pre-Run Warm Up 7/23/19 – Chase (5 minutes)
BHM: Icons Run 2/13/21 – Chase (30 minutes)
BHM Celebration Run 2/15/21 – Andy (30 minutes)
Post-Run Stretch 7/23/19 – Chase (5 minutes)
BHM: Jazz Ride 2/26/21 – Christine (20 minutes)
Chest & Back Strength 10/1/19 – Jess (20 minutes)
I didn’t plan on doing an hour of running but my legs felt pretty good so I decided to take advantage of that feeling. I took the Jazz Ride pretty easy and really enjoyed doing a more low impact ride and listening to the music. I love Jazz and Christine put together an amazing playlist.
Unfortunately my blog crashed around lunch time. I finally had time to call my hosting company after logging off work and apparently it was a wonky issue with a plugin. I was happy the issue was able to be resolved without me spending hours on the phone.
Wednesday, January 26
Warm Up Run 2/9/21 – Rebecca (5 minutes)
BHM Celebration Run 2/22/21 – Rebecca (30 minutes)
Gospel Ride 1/17/22 – Cliff (30 minutes)
WHM Celebration Ride 3/7/21 – Ally (20 minutes)
Arms & Shoulders Strength 5/10/21 – Jess (10 minutes)
BHM: Funk Yoga Flow 2/18/21 – Chelsea (45 minutes)
The BHM Celebration Run with Rebecca was really fun, but I’m not sure if I would recommend it unless you love gymnastics. She spent the class taking about the history of gymnastics and focused on a few black female gymnasts and their accomplishments. I enjoyed it because I have a soft spot in my heart for gymnastics since I did it when I was a kid and was obsessed with ‘The Magnificent Seven’ from the 1996 Summer Olympics. Cliff’s Gospel Ride was amazing, especially because it now has subtitles so I was able to follow along better. The strength class was 10 minutes of arm torture, and I liked it! My back started to feel a little cranky again after my workouts so I decided I would do a yoga class after logging off work. Somehow I never did this class with Chelsea (she’s my favorite yoga instructor) and the playlist looked fun so I decided to try it out. I had to modify some moves but overall it was a good class and I felt more relaxed and my back felt better after the class.
Thursday, January 27
Warm Up Run 12/3/21 – Selena (5 minutes)
BHM Celebration Run 2/21/21 – Selena (30 minutes)
WHM Celebration Ride 3/8/21 – Mayla (30 minutes)
WHM: Caribbean Ride 3/7/21 – Ally (20 minutes)
Fit Family Strong HIIT Cardio 12/28/20 – Jess (20 minutes)
I’m still making my way through all the BHM classes from 2021. I wanted to get those done before the new classes drop next month š Selena’s run was pretty interesting because it focused on old and new Black rock artists. There were quite a few “new to me” artists which always makes me happy because i love discovering new songs. I also really loved the WHM Caribbean Ride – great playlist!
Friday, January 28
Pre-Run Warm Up 9/12/19 – Robin (5 minutes)
BHM Celebration Run 2/24/21 – Olivia (30 minutes)
Cool Down Walk 1/19/22 – Matty (5 minutes)
HIIT Cardio 7/9/21 – Jess (20 minutes)
WHM: Barre 3/24/21 – Ally (30 minutes)
I needed to run a few errands before work which meant I had to move my workout to later on in the day. I don’t know if it was because it was the end of the work week, but I really had no desire to get in the workout. Not too much to report on this stack, but I would highly recommend the pre-run stretch class with Robin as it could be used as a stretch before any type of class. I actually had one more class scheduled but decided to skip it because my head just wasn’t in the right place to do the class.
Saturday, January 29
WHM: Latin Ride 3/28/21 – Erik (30 minutes)
EMINEM Core Strength Class 1/29/22 – Robin (20 minutes)
Saturday60: Advanced Full Body Bootcamp 1/29/22 – Jess (60 minutes)
Cool Down Walk 10/18/20 – Adrian (10 minutes)
Kudos to Jess for braving the snowstorm to get to the studio to teach class. I was actually a little annoyed at Peloton for not canceling the morning classes (the roads were not great in NYC) – some coaches even tried to make it in but couldn’t (Becs and Jess King). Jess ended up getting to the studio a little late so class started at 10:30. It ended up being a great class. I took the EMINEM core class right before signing into the bootcamp class and instantly regretted that decision – my abs were on fire!
I was scheduled to donate blood in the morning but unfortunately that was canceled due to the snowstorm. Luckily I was able to reschedule to a new date in February. If you’re able to donate, please consider finding a local blood drive in your city. This is currently the worst blood shortage in over a decade so the American Red Cross really needs donors.
Sunday, January 30
Pre-Run Warm Up 5/19/20 – Adrian (5 minutes)
Thunder 45: EMINEM Advanced Bootcamp 1/30/22 – Adrian (45 minutes)
EMINEM Ride 1/30/22 – Cliff (30 minutes)
HIIT Cardio 2/12/21 – Jess (20 minutes)
EMINEM Ride 1/30/22 – Denis (30 minutes)
I’ve been waiting for these classes all week! I’m a huge Eminem fan and have been for 20+ years. I have all his CDs (back when that was a thing) and can recite word for word most of his songs. These classes definitely did his music justice. I usually would never do a tread bootcamp on Saturday and Sunday, but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take the class live. It was hard but fun. Both rides were great as well. Cliff rapped in English for a few of the songs and Denis made sure to bring all the energy for his ride. Granted my legs are super sore right now but it was worth it.
Summary:
Running – 20.61 miles
Cycle – 43.04 miles
Strength Training – 110 minutes
Bootcamp – 105 minutes
Peloton Artist Series Classes – 506/511
I’ve been working on a project at work for about two months and it finally launched on Thursday. My manager was basically in charge of the project so I wanted to do anything possible to help out and make sure it went well. Luckily we got amazing feedback after the launch on Thursday and it was such a good feeling!
If you’re on the East Coast, I hope you were able to stay indoors yesterday. Although we didn’t get a lot of snow (my area got around 8 inches) the wind was wicked which made for really bad road conditions.
I won a giveaway this week! I am sure I have mentioned the Vizer app before, but basically it’s an app that allows you to donate a meal for every 30 minutes of exercise or 10,000 steps daily. I’ve been using the app for almost 3 months now and love it because it’s such an easy way to put some good out into the world. Earlier in the week, they ran a giveaway to win fresh juice from Evolution and I was one of the winners. I will be sent 6 juices to try and I’m looking forward to trying them out.
…and now for this week’s memes
That’s it! I hope you had a great week š
Iām linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
In Case You Missed It
Tuesday Topics: My First PeloFondo
Liz Dexter says
CDs are still a thing in this house! I buy them from indie artists who sell them at gigs or on Bandcamp … A great week, anyway, I really don’t know how you do it!
kookyrunner says
Oh I still have CDs too, but I don’t have anything to play them on, lol.
Wendy says
Interesting that your Peloton class had gymnastics movements in it! So that is a big thing at CrossFit now–they have gymnastics workshops and integrate a lot of gymnastics skills in class. I need my son, who did gymnastics in HS, to show them how it’s done, lol! My former coach Becky said gymnastics is the best activity there is–it’s all body strength.
We do have those grocery carts at our local grocery store and they have them at Whole Foods! I didn’t know it was a thing, but I like them too.
kookyrunner says
I love those little carts, especially when I don’t feel like carrying a basket, lol.
Kimberly Hatting says
Ha, those grocery carts! They’re the ones I grab (if available) because they’re not so BIG and keep me on-track to get just what I came for. I need to hit up some EMINEM classes, especially the cycling ones. I’mhoping to get Robin’s core class knocked out this afternoon as well.
kookyrunner says
Yup, same here! Also sometimes I hate trying to maneuver a big shopping cart through the aisles, especially if the staff is stocking the shelves. i don’t want to get in the way, lol.
As you know, my abs are still sore from Robin’s class, lol.
Jenny says
Ha ha… I really dislike Valentine’s Day, and that’s saying a lot because I love most holidays.
I took a couple Jess Sims classes this week (based on your recommendations) and she is a BADASS! i can just picture her not letting a snowstorm stop her from getting to the studio.
Congratulations on the work project AND winning the juice giveaway! Sounds like you had a great week.
kookyrunner says
Same here. I pretty much love all holidays but Valentine’s Day really gets under my skin.
Now you know why Jess Sims is my favorite š
Deborah Brooks says
I am really excited to take that Denis cycle class tomorrow! People can hate all they want on Peloton but they have had some amazing music collabs lately. More Peloton for us! Nice job this week you really hit it hard. Congrats on your work project going so well
kookyrunner says
Denis did a great job at not talking over the music too much but also giving great cues – it was a good class!
I’m really over all the Peloton hate – it’s coming from everywhere and it’s just overkill at this point. Yes, there are some things they can definitely do better but I wills till be loyal to them.
Michelle says
I’m a huge Emimen fan and have all of the classes bookmarked for this week. I heard Robin’s class was pure fire – I’m bracing myself LOL!
I’m so not a fan of Valentine’s Day either.
Congrats on your project launch! I hope this means February will be quieter for you.
kookyrunner says
Since you have now taken Robin’s Eminem core class, you know why we said it was good, lol.
Thanks! I get to jump right into another project that will take me through April so no rest for me next month, lol.
Jessie says
A successful week! Congrats on the work project!
Those small double decker carts are my favorite š
Just added the 20 min Robin core to my stack for tomorrow!
kookyrunner says
Those shopping carts were so perfect – I hope the stores bring them back at some point.
I am anxious to get your feedback after you take robin’s class, lol.
Coco says
Oh, that RK BHM class was the last straw for me. I wouldnāt have minded the talking if she had cued an interesting run in between. I donāt think Iāve taken one of her runs since. :-O
I took Andyās BHM run this week too. I liked that one.
Iām going to brave Adrianās bootcamp tomorrow and Jessās bike bootcamp on Tuesday (I ended up with a 12:30 pm call tomorrow ā boo!). I will have to work Cliffās ride in later this week.
Congrats on the success at work!
kookyrunner says
Totally get what you mean – As I was running I said to myself “This would be brutal if I wasn’t into gymnastics” lol. I took a strength class with her months ago that was the last straw for me. It was a 45 minute class and it had all these acrobatic/gymnastics moves and it was overly complicated. Eventually I’ll take another strength class with her but for now I’m fine exploring other instructors, lol.
Boo to the 12:30 call today š but I’ll let you know how the class goes this afternoon.
Cari says
Congrats on the successful launch. Such a relief, I’m sure.
OMG. These memes you nailed it. I had deleted WTForecast, but weather snaps like this remind me of how funny it was.
Speaking of deleting, I lost my bookmarks when I had to reinstall the Peloton app the first time. I went and bookmarked the BHM ones from your profile because I enjoyed those I did last year but never got to all the runs and strengths.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Cari. Definitely a relief for that one to be over. Now I get to five into another one that will occupy my time until April, lol.
The WTForecast app usually provides me with a daily laugh so that’s why I keep it, lol.
Darlene S. Cardillo says
Those are my favorite carts. Lol.
Great week. You do so many workouts. What dedication.
We did not get the snow but so so cold.
Congrats on your job project. Now you can relax.
kookyrunner says
Right? Those carts are the perfect size when i have too much for a basket, but not enough for a full cart, lol.
Thanks! I’m glad that project is done but now I get to stress about another project until April – lucky me, lol.
Marcia says
I like Valentine’s Day only because it’s somewhat of a holiday in a blah time of year. I’ll take anything at this point! Ha! I’m totally checking out the Eminem workouts!
kookyrunner says
Hope you enjoy the Eminem workouts! Robin’s core class is a killer!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Glad your work launch went so well! Congrats!
Nice job getting in the workouts even when you’re not feeling it. I didn’t know you did gymnastics as a kid. I love to watch it, but I only did it when forced to in gym class!
But he, 2/14 is my birthday — please don’t remove me. š Now I’m really having Back to the Future flashbacks! (it’s all tongue in cheek, Kim, I get it).
kookyrunner says
Oh I didn’t know that your birthday was on Valentine’s Day! In that case, the holiday is now okay with me, lol.
Black Knight says
I will always grateful to people who donate blood. You are very generous persons.
I am glad your work launch went well.
As always another solid week of training.
kookyrunner says
Thank you – just trying to do my part!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Glad you got the blog fixed without a lot of problems, and hooray for your successful project! I know that feeling of finally getting a project launched! (and not waking up to a hot mess the day after)
kookyrunner says
Thanks! It was nice to get that project done and out the door.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
We got lucky and the storm missed us and it sounds like this next on is going to stay just north of us as well.
Congrats on a job well done at work! That’s always a great feeling!
kookyrunner says
I’m glad that the storm missed your area – hope the same for you this weekend too!
Jenn says
I love gymnastics so that ride sounds really cool!
Congratulations on your project!
We ordered heart-shaped Chicago style pizzas for Valentine’s Day. I love a theme, but not the holiday itself.
kookyrunner says
I’m the same way about Valentines Day – I enjoy the heart shaped pizza but that’s it, lol.
