Happy Sunday! Well I’m happy to save I survived this week – barely. To say it was quite a week would be an understatement. Combine that with getting hit with a lovely summer cold on Friday was the icing on the cake π Needless to say, I’m currently down for the count.
Here’s how my workouts went this week:
Monday, May 13
4 mile run + Strength Training (30 minutes)
To my surprise this run felt pretty good, and I loved getting in a total body workout after my run was done.
Tuesday, May 14
Hip Hop Spinning (45 minutes) + Strength Training (15 minutes)
You can never go wrong with a hip hop class! I needed to jam out after a long day at work.
Wednesday, May 15
Strength Training (30 minutes)
I only had time for a quick workout so I tried to maximize my time with a full body workout. Also, it was my dad’s birthday!

Rest Day.
Work had been stressful ALL WEEK. Combine that with two projects launching on this day and I was toast by the time I got home. All I wanted to do was watch TV and view funny videos online, so that’s what I did.
Friday, May 17
8 mile run
Switch my WFH (work form home) day from Thursday to Friday, so I decided to knock out my long run that morning. The run felt hard, which I found odd since my pace was pretty steady.
My run probably felt hard because my body was coming down with something. By the time I logged off work I felt like crap. I could tell it wasn’t allergies so I took some cold medicine and took a nap. I skipped dinner and took so more cold medicine before going to sleep. The rest of the night was spent falling asleep for a little bit, coughing and sweating (I had a fever).
Saturday, May 18
Rest Day.
I was supposed to get in 5-6 miles but barely got through a one mile walk. Saturday mornings are when my mom and I meet up with a few ladies to run. Basically I drove us to the park, did my one mile walk while they ran, then went back in my car to sleep while I waited for my mom to finish. The rest of the day involved more medicine, cough drops, sleep and some food.
Sunday, May 19
Rest Day.
I feel like I’m on the upswing of whatever this is, but still not 100% so I took another rest day. My fever and headache are gone, but my cough is still pretty bad. Since I’m taking the day off on Friday, I really don’t want to have to take a sick day tomorrow so I hope that my cough gets better.
Total Weekly Mileage: 12 miles
Summary: 2 runs, 1 spinning class and 3 strength training workouts
Grade This Week β B
Well that’s not the week summary I was hoping for but it shows the reality of the week.
After a really stressful work week I was looking forward to enjoying the weekend, especially since the weather was beautiful. My weekend plans didn’t exactly involve spending a majority of my time in bed but it is what it is. Even though it sucks to get a summer cold, I am very happy that it happened this weekend and not next weekend (I guess this is what you call seeing the glass half full). I’m going up to Boston on Friday to run the Run to Remember Half Marathon on Sunday and being sick then would really suck.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a way better week next week. I’m also really looking forward to the long weekend – how are we almost to Memorial Day already?!
That’s it! I hope you had a great week π
Iβm linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

Oh no sorry to hear that you arenβt feeling well! Take it easy this week so you feel better for next weekend. Thanks for linking up
Thanks! The worst of it seems to be over, thank goodness π
Total bummer you are not feeling 100%, but your glass is half full LOL (just keep refilling it and knocking down all the fluids). hard to believe it’s almost Memorial Day! I”m certainly looking forward to SUMMER!!!!! Take care…virtual hug is being sent…now π
Thanks for the virtual hug – I needed it today π
Awww…sorry to read about your summer cold. Rest as long as you need to in order to get rid of it! Love the photo of you and your dad. Happy birthday to him!
Thanks Laurie. I didn’t sleep all day so I think that means I must be getting better!
Sorry to hear about your cold and hope you kick its ass as quickly as I kicked my one’s. Keep resting!
Thanks Liz! I rested a lot this weekend so hopefully that will help me kick this things quickly!
Oh Kim π I’m so sorry you have been sick. The stress at work probably didn’t help. Stress is a killer!!! I hope you feel much better very soon and that next weekend being sick will just be a fading memory.
hope your dad had a good birthday! cute pic !
I’m convinced that my work week was probably the final nail in the coffin – that mixed with a lack of sleep, my body was bound to have some sort of reaction π Thankfully I’m feeling much better today!
I hope you get better soon and are feeling back to 100% by the week’s beginning. I’m sure the stress at work contributed to getting sick, so I hope you get a reprieve this week workwise!
Thanks Becca! I actually fee much better now so I hope that I will be feeling back to normal very soon.
Blech. So sorry you caught a cold but, like you say, better than being sick in Boston for the race. I swear I still have some crap lingering on my chest from the cold I caught right after London. Happy Birthday to your dad! My dad turned 80 on 5/17!
Thanks Marcia! I decided I need to look at the positive since summer colds are so damn annoying, lol.
So cool that our dad’s have similar birthdays – Happy belated birthday to your day!
Keeping my fingers crossed that you are back to normal long before your half! Summer colds are really the worst. Take it easy, though, to make sure you really have gotten over it.
Love the photo of you & your Dad!
Thanks Just! I’m on the upswing now so I really hope that the end of this cold is near.
Oh, no! I thought I was getting sick Wednesday night, but it was just an allergy attack. Sounds like lots of rest (and cold medicine) this weekend should have you feel better by next weekend. You are so kind to still drive your mom and friends for their run!
I’m glad that you weren’t sick but just dealing with allergies. It’s so hard to tell the difference this time of year!
I hope you feel better soon! Keep on resting and continue taking that cold medicine. Have a great race on Sunday! Can’t wait to hear what you think of it.
Thanks! I feel much better today so I am hoping that the illness is over.
Ugh, Kim, I’m so sorry you got hit with a cold! Hopefully, lots of fluids and rest will help to kick it to the curb this week. Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday!
Thanks Michelle! I’ve been drinking fluids like crazy and continuing to take medicine so I’m actually feeling much better today.
Can’t wait to see you on Saturday!
It’s bad enough to be sick but to get sick on a Friday? That is truly awful my friend. I sincerely hope you are back at it today so you can enjoy your day off on Friday!…and get back to hip hop spin!!
Ugh – exactly!! I was like, well there goes my weekend, lol. Luckily I’m feeling much better today.
I saw a bunch of kids with that nasty bug last week. I washed my hands like crazy knowing I was going to see Holly–I didn’t want to get sick! I hope you feel better. Chicken soup is medicine, you know. π
I’m so thankful that you didn’t get this bug! It’s definitely no fun, lol. Chicken soup has been my best friend too!
Sorry to hear you don’t feel good, I hope you get well soon but be wise, one day of rest more is always a good solution for a faster recover.
Late happy birthday to dad.
About early morning run: it was my rule for many many years. I did my workouts before going to office but now, after the retirement, I am not anymore slave of the time!
Thanks! I’m already feeling better, thank goodness.
Sometimes stress can be the tipping point into sickness. So sorry you are feeling so crummy! I hope you feel better soon so that you can get back to crushing it!
Thanks Sandra. This week should be less stressful, so I’m hoping that will help kick this sickness to the curb.
I’m sorry you’ve been sick! That’s the worst. But it sounds like you’re starting to feel better now so yay for that!
Thanks Jenny. Luckily I’m feeling better today.
Oh no, that sucks that you’re sick π I hope you feel better soon. And great job getting in those workouts earlier in the week!
Thanks! I’m feeling better now – just have the cough which I hope goes away soon!
Hope you are feeling better in time for your half!
Thanks Hannah!
No love for summer colds, here. I hope you are feeling better soon. They can be so miserable.
Happy birthday to your dad!
Thanks so much Jenn!
Oh no, sorry that you have been sick! You played it smart by not running, lay low and take care of yourself! Hope you are feeling better now!!
Thanks so much Angela!
Sorry you spent the week sick. Tons of people at my job are sick and I have been avoiding them like the plague!
I hope that you continue to avoid this cold that is going around. Stay healthy!
