Happy Sunday! I hope that everyone had a great week and 4th of July. Also, a huge CONGRATULATIONS to the US Women’s Soccer Team for winning the World Cup! I’ve enjoyed following their progress throughout the whole tournament!
This was my last base-building week before starting marathon training. Here’s how my workouts went this week.
Monday, July 1
OrangeTheory Fitness – Endurance, Strength and Power (ESP) Class (60 minutes).
This was my first class with Coach Amanda and she was fabulous. Really liked the flow of the class too.
Tuesday, July 2
Peloton Cycle (60 minutes).
I took two 30 minute classes (Pop and Y2K). Both were fun and just what my legs needed.
Wednesday, July 3
Boot camp (60 minutes).
We did circuits for a majority of the class which was great! Really got my blood pumping.
Thursday, July 4
OrangeTheory Fitness – Endurance, Strength and Power (ESP) Class (60 minutes).
Happy 4th! This class was HARD! It was the first time everyone started on 1 of 3 stations (usually its 1 of 2). I started off on the floor which meant weights, then moved to the treadmill and finished up on the rower. We has less time on the treadmill than usual but the time on the rower more than made up for it! I was toast after this workout.
Friday, July 5
4 mile run.
Fridays are normally my rest days, but since I was working from home, I decided to squeeze in a run during my lunch break. To make the run interesting, I did the Peloton All For One treadmill class. It was really cool to have the class taught by all 11 of the treadmill instructors!
Saturday, July 6
8 mile run + core work (15 minutes).
Good Lord this run was horrible! The heat and humidity was fierce, even at 7am. At first I was beating myself up for not getting outside earlier, but the weather would have sucked no matter what time I started. I actually wanted 10 miles but decided to call it at 8 because I was sick of suffering lol.
Sunday, July 7
OrangeTheory Fitness – Strength Class (60 minutes) + core work (15 minutes).
Coach Alison always kicks my butt and pushes me to go harder! I really loved the treadmill block because it was all about hills and intervals. Super hard but I know that it is going to help my running overall.
Total Weekly Mileage: 18.5 miles
Summary: 5 runs, 2 spinning classes, 4 strength training workouts
Grade This Week ā A
Pretty happy with how this week panned out. It was a holiday week so I really appreciated having Thursday off from work – I needed that day off! The weather this week truly reminded my why I love Fall and Winter. In fact I’m already counting down the days until Fall – 78 days to go!
I kind of forgot about the #CrushYourCore program until yesterday – whoops! So basically I crammed the classes over two days (Saturday and Sunday). It was totally fine but I need to remember to do the classes daily after my workouts!
I’ve noticed that after my OTF workouts, I have a lot of energy and can get a lot of things accomplished (errands, etc) but after a long run I just want to chill. Not necessarily sleep, but I definitely lack energy. I have no clue but just thought I’d share that here in case anyone has any thoughts!
Tomorrow kicks off training for my 4th marathon. I’m a little excited and a lot nervous but I’m going to try to keep a positive attitude throughout training, no matter how hard it gets! Wish me luck.
That’s it! I hope you had a great week š
Iām linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

Great job this week and I am excited for you to start your marathon training plan. I am also so glad that it’s you and not me š I will be cheering you on each week though. Thanks for linking up
kookyrunner says
LOL! I’m already dreading the long runs but I’m just going to plaster on a smile and get it done. This will probably be my last marathon though.
Melissa (I Crashed the Web) says
Yay for marathon training!!! It is always nice to have something to train for to keep you on track, especially in summertime. Good luck!
kookyrunner says
Definitely! It will help keep me on track throughout the summer.
Kimberly Hatting says
Woot!! Bring on the training!! Personally, I really love running marathons, but the training is a buzzkill (especially in the final weeks leading up to taper). If I could do those last couple of long runs on an actual race course (or at least have some crowd support), then that would be a total game-changer. Thanks for linking with us, Kim!!
kookyrunner says
That’s so true – training is just so time consuming but the actual marathon is fine, lol.
I’m going to see if I can use any local races as long runs in September.
Marcia says
No need to be nervous. You’ve built a great base and you’re gonna spank yout training and your marathon! You’re doing SO great at OTF! That’s going to payoff big time!
kookyrunner says
Thanks for the vote of confidence Marcia!
Coco says
Oooh, does your mom do OTF too? Or just on the 4th? As for post-OTF energy levels, I’m no exercise scientist, but maybe it has to do with interval training (at OTF) vs. steady exertion during a run? Anyway, I love that you are loving it. š
kookyrunner says
She does OTF too and she’s loving it!
What you said about the interval training vs steady exertion makes a lot of sense – I never thought of it in that way.
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
I think long runs in this heat just take more out of you, you know? I’m the same…today after my long run I just laid around all day. I didn’t even feel like meal prepping so I just snacked and ate like crap all day, haha.
I’d love to get back to OTF! I might start that up again once I’m cleared to cross train and do speed work again. I’m still on mostly easy runs because of my ankle.
kookyrunner says
Very true. I was pretty much useless yesterday afternoon and I didn’t even run double digits!
I hope that you are able to get back to OTF soon.
Cari says
Saturday was hot garbage. Literally
Not that I’d do Central Park in the middle of the night but I briefly contemplated whether it wouldn’t be better as I wasn’t sleeping either due to the heat.
You’re building a rock solid foundation.
I look forward to sweating through marathon training with you
kookyrunner says
Saturday was what nightmares are made of – just a horrible running day.
I also look forward to sweating through marathon training with you this summer as well, lol!
Zenaida Arroyo says
You had an awesome week, Kim!!!! So proud of you. I think your training will go much smoother with all of your OTF and Peloton classes. Can’t wait to follow along on your training.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much for the vote of confidence – I’ll need all the positive vibes I can get! š
Laurie says
How exciting to begin marathon training next week! I don’t really have a formal plan yet, but hubby and I have been adding to our weekly mileage and trying to get some longer runs in. Our fall marathon is the end of October. I actually like running with a plan. Your OT classes sound great! You get some intense workouts in!
kookyrunner says
Sounds like you’ve done what I did the past few weeks – just working on base building and adding more miles to “long” runs!
Wendy says
You had a great week going into marathon training! Can I just admit to FOMO? I told Steph this weekend that I’d give anything to be training for Chicago again!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Wendy!
Liz Dexter says
A great variety of work this week, well done! And go go go mara training!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Liz!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Yay for starting your training! You are going to do awesome!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Michelle!
Darlene says
Yay for Marathon training. My Nov 3 race plan started already but it was only 6 miles for the first week. I did 7 because I may skip this Sat’s in favor of a 5k. I’m not good with plans. Maybe you can motivate me!!
kookyrunner says
I’m sure you are going to rock your marathon training. One thing to keep in mind is that it’s nice to have a plan but life happens. If you need to deviate from the plan that’s okay!
Chaitali says
You had a lot of variety in your workouts! And that’s interesting about having energy after OTF but being tired after a long run. I wonder what the difference is.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! Yeah it’s super weird but I’m just thankful I have energy after the OTF workouts!
Laetitia says
Great week! I miss Orange Theory… down to one class a week… it was just too much otherwise with the longer runs …
kookyrunner says
I am hoping I can keep up with the 2 classes a week during training!
Sandra D Laflamme says
You must be excited to get going with marathon training! Great week of workouts. I have still yet to try Orange Theory Fitness. It sounds like a lot of fun!
kookyrunner says
I’m excited to start but also nervous!
Jenn says
Power week for you! You absolutely rocked it!
You are building up for marathon training like a boss and it’s absolutely going to pay off!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Jenn!
Hannah says
Sounds like a great week for the end of pre-marathon training! I actually usually get a lot done right after a long run, but then I have no energy the day after.
kookyrunner says
That’s interesting that the post-long run fatigue hits you the day after. I usually have a lot of energy the day after, lol.
Black Knight says
5 runs in a week (+ other activities) are a solid training. Wise decision to cut 2 miles if the weather is hot and humid. I remember that in 2001 I prepared the marathon of Athens in summer …. well, my body at the end said “No, stop it” and I only enter the 10 km instead of the marathon.
kookyrunner says
That definitely happens sometimes. I think as runners we have to be very diligent about listening to our bodies, especially in the summer.
Angela says
Great mileage for a holiday week! I have yet to try Orange Theory, but I have heard so many great things about it. I am excited to follow your journey to your 4th marathon!!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Angela!
The Accidental Marathoner says
You have been doing so great with your workouts! You have an incredible base and our going to rock your training! Can’t wait to see you in October!
