Happy Sunday π I hope that everyone had a great week! I have tomorrow off from work due to the MLK holiday. Do you also have Monday off due to the holiday?
Although this week wasn’t too hectic, it seemed like the days dragged on and on. I remember looking at my Fitbit at work on Tuesday thinking it was at least 2pm and it was literally 10am – I was speechless, lol. Despite the days feeling 30 hours long, it was a good week of workouts – let’s discuss.
Here’s how my workouts went this week:
Monday, January 13
Orangetheory Fitness – ESP (60 minutes) + core workout (5 minutes).
While I appreciate an ESP (endurance, strength, power) workout because it gives me a little bit of everything, my body felt tired during class from Sunday’s workout. The treadmill block was pretty brutal so I was happy I got that done during the first half of class.
Tuesday, January 14
Walking (30 minutes) + core workout (10 minutes).
I probably should have made this a rest day, but I still wanted to get in some movement and get my steps in, so I opted for a few Peloton walking classes. I don’t do these classes often, but they are a great way to get your blood pumping since they mix in different speeds and inclines. It’s definitely more of a power walk.
Wednesday, January 15
Peloton Cycle (60 minutes) + core workout (10 minutes).
Time to get back on my bike! I love that I can elect from different instructors, types of music and lengths of classes to make the workout super interesting!
Thursday, January 16
Orangetheory Fitness – ESP (60 minutes) + core workout (5 minutes).
It was my mom’s birthday and she wanted to get her “birthday burn” on at OTF so I tagged along π
Friday, January 17
Orangetheory Fitness – Endurance (60 minutes) + core workout (5 minutes).
Happy 1-mile benchmark day! Since this was my first time doing this particular benchmark, it was an automatic PR. Looking back, I started out too conservative because I was afraid of burning out too early. When we re-do this benchmark in the summer, I know to start off faster since my body can handle it. I’m not a fast runner by any means so I’m fine with my 10:01 time and will aim to get my mile time under 10 minutes next time.
Saturday, January 18
Peloton cycle (30 minutes) + 3 mile run + core workout (10 minutes)
It was really cold when I woke up in the morning (real feel of 5 degrees). I could have bundled up and gone outside to get in a few miles but I just really didn’t feel like it. Plus there was a chance of snow so I just decided to do my run indoors. I didn’t really feel like doing a long run so I decided to do a brick workout instead.
Sunday, January 19
Peloton Cycle (60 minutes) + core workout (10 minutes).
OMG this class was so much fun. The energy, the music, EVERYTHING! Such a perfect way to start off my Sunday.
Total Weekly Mileage: 9.6 miles
Summary: 4 runs*, 6 cycle classes and 3 OTF workouts
*I include running from my OTF workouts and stand alone runs as well.
Grade This Week β A
We’re about halfway through the month and I’m happy to say that I’m still doing my daily core workouts. On days when I have OTF, I usually only do a 5 minute workout (since we normally do some type of ab exercises during class). On days that I don’t have OTF, I try to do at least a 10 minute core workout. What I’ve discovered over the past few weeks is that I don’t mind doing core exercises, but I’m not a huge plank fan. I feel like there are so many other ways to work my core.
Did you know that January 17th is National Recommitters Day? It’s also known as National Quitters Day – Basically the day when most people give up on their New Year’s resolutions. WW (formerly Weight Watchers) posted this really cool template on Instagram so I decided to fill it out with 3 of the things I’m committed to this year.
You’ll notice that the Orangetheory Fitness Transformation challenge was listed as one of my 3 things. It will take place at all OTF studios from January 20 β March 15. The winners will be based on the percentage of fat loss at the end of the 8 weeks. I do want to lower my body fat percentage and drop a few pounds, but that’s not the ultimate goal for me. Because so many OTF members are taking part in this, Iβve been able to join Facebook support groups which is awesome β you know Iβm all about the community aspect of fitness! During this challenge, weβre put on teams with a specific coach, so Iβm looking forward to getting training and nutrition tips as well. This first week is going to be crazy because it’s Spirt Week so there’s a different theme every day. I’m planning on doing all the themes so that means 5 days in a row of workouts. I can already hear my body screaming at me, lol. But overall it should be fun – I love a good theme!
And now time for my weekly baby Yoda meme, LOL
That’s it! I hope you had a great week π
Iβm linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

Tuesday Topics: Achieving My 2020 Goals
Catrina says
What a great idea to do a recommitters’ day! I really like your three goals: they are achievable and not overwhelming. I am excited to read about how you will reach them, one by one. With your energy and zeal, I am sure you will achieve all three.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Catrina! I feel like I’ve been doing pretty good since the year started and I just hope I can continue this momentum.
Jessie says
Love recommitters days! You’re always so committed π
This weather is no fun, I’m ready for spring already.
Ha, those work days are the worst- I’ve definitely had those! It was a long week…hopefully you have tomorrow off?
kookyrunner says
Thanks Jessie! I feel like I’ve been pretty committed with everything since the new year started – let’s just hope I can keep that going, lol.
I saw how much snow you got in Minnesota this weekend – stay safe out there!
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
Great job on the TM test. Way to mix up all of your running and cycling this week. Happy Birthday to your amazming mom
kookyrunner says
Thanks Deborah! I feel like I had a little more balance this week since I did OTF 3 days instead of 4. Gave me an extra day to get in some spinning!
Coco says
Wow on joining the Transformation Challenge — you certainly go enough to do really well. For the benchmark, our coach encouraged people wanting to PR to start out “too fast” because he’d rather see us have to slow down at the end than finish with more in the tank — I guess he knows us well. I also love that he recognized that not everyone was going to go for it. I love how much your mom is embracing TF too!
kookyrunner says
That was such a smart recommendation from your coach! I kind of wish I had done that, but at least now I know for next time π
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Happy birthday to your mom! My Mom’s birthday is coming up soon and I was shocked to realize she is turning 80 years old this year. I really thought she was somewhere closer to 73. Yikes. Where does time go? That cake looks so delicious. Great job on your workouts this week!
kookyrunner says
The time certainly flies by so quickly! I cannot believe that my mom will be 70 next year – that’s just unreal to me.
Liz Dexter says
I love your mum’s attitude! And you are so busy and fit – amazing but exhausting to see! Well done on a super week. I do wish I had peleton here but really I could do with recommitting to spin class in general!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Liz! I love that my mom loves exercise as much as I do – even if I have to give her a little push sometimes, lol.
I hope that you get to do more spin classes this year – they are so much fun, especially with the right music.
Kimberly Hatting says
I love those three big goals for the Recommitment Challenge π It’s gonna be fun watching YOU knock them out π That birthday cake for you mom…oh my!
kookyrunner says
We still have leftover cake and I’ve been trying to avoid eating any more of it all weekend, lol.
Cari says
Good luck with the transformation challenge! I love those kind of long-ish term changes and body fat is so much more meaningful than pounds
Your mom’s cake looks delicious
I think you love them both – but Peloton or OTF on a given day if all other factors the same i.e. no “snow day so Peloton in my basement”
I feel you on yesterday. Redonkulous. I don’t think I’d have gone out if Deborah and Darlene weren’t in town
kookyrunner says
Thanks Cari! I’m really hoping to lose 3-5% body fat. I don’t know if that’s realistic – it’s something I’ll have to speak to my coach about.
I really do love both Peloton and OTF, and I also still sorta like running, lol
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
Your meme game is strong, young Padawan. Haha I love them all! I don’t get MLK day off unfortunately. I wish I did cause after all the miles this weekend, I could use an extra rest day!
kookyrunner says
Oh man, sorry you don’t get tomorrow off but I hope you can rest after work!
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
Mile challenges are tough! I’ve been happy both times that I’ve done one but I’ve also never been so tempted to just throw my hands in the air and walk away from a workout. Nice workouts and happy day off tomorrow!
kookyrunner says
LOl I can totally relate to that feeling!
Wendy says
I like the idea of a recommitment day! Sounds better than ‘quitters’ day’! Perfect timing after celebrating your mom’s birthday with that yummy cake!
kookyrunner says
I agree – I don’t like “quitters day” because it sounds so negative!
Hannah says
Love all the baby yoda memes!
I do technically have tomorrow off since campus is closed, but hoping that means I can make progress on my writing projects – preferably while sitting at home in my pajamas.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! It’s been my favorite meme for the past few weeks and I see that continuing for a while haha
Shathiso says
I was so late leaving the house for work today and missed breakfast… so seeing that delicious Oreo cake sent me off the edge! LOL! Oh my…!!!! Can’t wait to see how you do on the Transformation Challenge! I have a feeling you’re going to nail it! Great start for your mile benchmark! For my first mile time trial I also set off quite conservatively but the following time I had a much better sense of how much I could push.
kookyrunner says
Awwe sorry! Totally understand because that cake looks so good!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Great week of workouts! And recommitters day is a great idea. I know its only a few weeks into the new year but its hard to stay motivated this time of year!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Lisa! Yeah I really like recommitters day because I feel like sometimes it’s easy to fail at a resolution because it’s so new, but the recommittals day is a nice opportunity to “recommit” to your goals!
Marcia says
Wow I thought people lasted at least maybe 6 weeks before quitting on their resolutions…guess not! Great week for you. I swear whoever does OTF’s workout themes does such a great job. The transformation group sounds awesome. Do they charge extra for that??
kookyrunner says
OTF marketing definitely does a great job with their themed workouts. My studio charged a $25 fee to participate in the challenge but I’m not sure if other studios charge the same or more.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I love the idea of Recommitters Day! You’ve got some great goals you’re shooting for and I have no doubt you will crush them. I’m especially interested to hear what you think of the Transformation Challenge.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Michelle! I will definitely let you know how everything goes with the challenge.
JENN says
Girl! You rocked this week! Look at you!
Happy birthday to your lovely mom. She is awesome and I love that you are able to support each other in your fitness goals!
The more i see your workouts, the more I want a Peloton. I have no idea when I’m going to be able to get back to running or 9Round again, and I don’t know what I’m going to do in the meantime.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Jenn!
If you want, you can just sign up for Peloton app for now (I think its $20 or $40 a month) and you can use it for at home workouts – they have a bunch of strength training and yoga classes. Let me know if you have any questions!
Dominique Cheylise says
I donβt own a Peloton bike but my gym has one that we can use. I definitely want to start doing some of the on demand classes. I follow a bunch of the instructors on IG just for fitness motivation but would love to actually do their classes!
kookyrunner says
That would be great if you could do some of the on demand classes on the bike at your gym. That’s so cool that they have one!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Happy Birthday to you mom! I hope she had a great day. Haha I had to laugh at the meme. I all for not eating something healthy after a workout. π I love Lady Gaga and that workout looks like so much fun.
kookyrunner says
Sometimes I’m super hungry after a workout so I have to remind myself to not eat all the foods.
Chaitali says
Great week of work outs! Happy birthday to your mom, that cake looks amazing π
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much!
Laetitia says
Good luck on the transformation challenge. I opted not to do it since I’ve gotta start focusing on marathon training and ramping up my running. But I love following your OTF adventures!!
kookyrunner says
Thanks! My studio ran a transformation challenge in the summer but I didn’t participate but I figured now was a good time to give it a try, especially after the holidays, lol. Also I’m not training for anything now so that helped in making my decision too.
San says
I had never heard of recommitter’s day, but I love it. Great day to recommit to your goals.
kookyrunner says
For sure!
