Happy Sunday π It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done a Weekly Run Down post, but I’m back! I took a little break from my weekly workout recaps since I haven’t been running too much (more on that later) but I’ve still been working out. Here’s how my workouts went this week.
Monday, November 18
OrangeTheory Fitness – Strength (60 minutes).
Not gonna lie, my legs were still sore/tired from the race but I wanted to start off the week with a good workout. #nevermissamonday
We also had a 500 meter benchmark on the rower and I beat my old time by three seconds – I’ll take it!
I also celebrated #MedalMonday for running the Charlotte Half Marathon!
Tuesday, November 19
Peloton Cycle Classes (45 minutes).
I have been wanting to get back to my Peloton rides and that started this week. I like taking two different classes as opposed to one 45 minute class so I get a mix of instructors.
Wednesday, November 20
Peloton Cycle Classes (45 minutes)
Day #2 of my Peloton rides, and I also hit 140 cycle rides and 400 total workouts!
Thursday, November 21
Rest Day! π
Friday, November 22
OrangeTheory Fitness – Strength (60 minutes)
Now that I don’t have super long runs on Saturdays, I can take OTF classes on Friday after work. I call them my “Happy Hour” classes π
Saturday, November 23
4 mile run.
This run started off pretty rough but I fell into a grove after the first mile, thank goodness!
Sunday, November 24
OrangeTheory Fitness – ESP (60 minutes).
I really enjoy the ESP (endurance, strength, power) workouts because it’s a mix of everything! This was a 3G workout which meant there were three different groups (one group each on the treadmills, rowers and weights).I went from the treadmill to the rowers to the weights and that was probably the worst combination because I was completely wiped out by the time I hit the weights. I was tired, but still got it done!
Total Weekly Mileage: 9.4 miles
Summary: 4 runs, 3 strength training workouts, 4 cycle classes
Grade This Week β B+
I mentioned at the beginning of the post that I haven’t been running too much. Most of that was just needing some downtime after the marathon, but I’ve been dealing with some back and knee issues over the past few weeks that has put running on the back burner. I’ve dealt with back pain off and on all year but it’s been more of a daily annoyance the past 2 weeks. It’s not really a pain, but more of a stiffness. At my ART appointment on Thursday my doctor said that he’s never seen my upper back that tight. I always feel better after I get my weekly adjustment from him but it’s just a temporary fix. I’m going to really start paying more attention to my posture at work because I know I tend to hunch over while sitting in my chair. Hopefully that will help!
I’ve also been dealing with some random knee pain since earlier in the week. I think this is probably from the hilly half marathon I ran last weekend. It’s a weird little pain behind my knee. My ART doctor worked on that as well and it does feel better now so I’m thankful for that. My 4 mile run on Saturday felt fine so I think I’ll just stick to the shorter distances for a few weeks.
It other workout developments, I finally cancelled my LA Fitness gym membership last week. I’ll have access to the gym until the end of this year. It just made sense as I wasn’t going that often. I also upgraded my OrangeTheory Fitness membership to unlimited, so now I can go as often as I want. I will probably stick to 3-4 days a week. I think anyone that knows me saw this coming, lol. I just really love everything about OTF and I’m looking forward to get stronger and increasing my endurance during my off season from running this Winter.
What are your plans for Thanksgiving? I’m planning on running a local Turkey Trot. It’s free and untimed but a nice thing to do on Thanksgiving morning. I may also take an OTF class later on in the morning as well.
That’s it! I hope you had a great week π
Iβm linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
In Case You Missed It
Tuesday Topics: Novant Heath Charlotte Half Marathon Race Recap
Glad to hear the ART is giving you relief! I haven’t tried OTF. There is one really near me, but I’d rather spend the $$ on other things.
Thanksgiving will be low key at my parents. No turkey trot because it takes almost 2 hours to get to my parents — I could squeeze it in, but it just puts a lot of pressure on the day. I will most likely run on the treadmill so my hair can look decent, LOL!
Totally understand why you are skipping the Turkey Trot this year, and you like you mentioned, you can always do it on the treadmill!
I’ve been dealing with some random hip pain since the half. Started off as sore knees then morphed into hip and quad/hamstring issues on my right side. I’m hoping it’s just because I’m super tight and an adjustment I have tomorrow will take care of it!
I’d really love to get into OTF classes, I just don’t have the time to put towards that right now. It’s enough with all the running! And being that it’s race season down here, I can’t put that on the backburner just yet. Maybe next spring when things calm down a bit for me!
Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that. I hope that the adjustment tomorrow will take care of that pain for you.
Totally understand about OTF. That’s why I started off with the middle membership package of 8 classes a month. After a while I realized that I wanted to take more classes.
I love that you are loving OTF so much! I usually start on the rower because I figure it’s the best place to wake up for my 5 am class. Also, I get so sweaty on the treadmill it’s better if I’m done right after that! I think Peleton and OTF will be plenty of fitness — surprised you can ever get to the gym with all that. I hope your back and knee get better. I definitely catch ,myself with horrible posture at work and try to correct it.
That’s a good point about starting on the rowers. I usually start on the treadmill and then I’m super sweaty for the rest of the class, lol. You’re right, between OTF, running and Peloton – I’m booked, lol. There was really no need for the gym so I’m glad I finally cancelled that membership.
I”m looking forward to cutting back on my running miles again after my race next weekend. My body doesn’t like the super high mileage! Glad to hear that you love OTF–it’s such a great alternative and you’re working so many other body parts. Enjoy that ART! :p
It’s always nice when you can cutback in mileage, especially during the winter months!
I noticed you hadn’t been doing much running, but you have been kicking #kimbuttocks at OTF! I wish we had that in my area, I think it would be a good fit for me (you know, since my name is Kim and all LOL). I hope you get some relief for your back.
Yeah I figured I should probably say something since my running posts has been pretty much nonexistent on Instagram lol. While I do run on the treadmills at OTF, it’s not super high mileage.
Curious to see if the infrared stretch helps your back and knee feel better. I am going again this week bc I loved it that much. Have a great Thanksgiving week! Thanks for linking up
That’s great that you’re going again this week!
I didn’t know anything about OTF until I read about it in your posts. I think I would enjoy it too. Here we only have an LA Fitness. Unfortunately, it is not very good – not very clean and not many classes.
I think it’s a wise move to cut down on running if you’re not feeling 100%. Gives your body some time to recover.
I am doing a Turkey Trot as well! Do you get Pumpkin Pie at the end too?
Same here with the LA Fitness. It’s gone through so many changes over the years that it’s no longer a gym I would want to go too.
I’m really loving running less miles right now. I hope the knee and back stuff clears up. I’d love to try OTF sometime, the only reason I haven’t is because the studio near my house is always sold out.
Yeah their classes do seem to get full very quickly. I often have to book my classes weeks in advance!
I think I’ve got myself a nice case of “tech neck” right now too. Ugh. I really need to go get it sorted out. Between OTF, Peloton and running, it sounds like you don’t need LA Fitness at all. I’m conflicted about the turkey trot. My niece is doing the one in our town so I’d love to go cheer her on, however I’m already registered for a different one.
Hmm I wonder if my upper back issue could be related to tech neck since I’m on my phone a lot. I’ll need to be aware of that as well!
Well done you for getting those body issues sorted- hope you’re right as rain very soon. No turkey trots here! But I have been getting to Spin at least once a week and very much enjoying it
Thanks Liz!
You seem to enjoy Orange Theory so much so it sounds like a good idea to cancel LA Fitness and up your OT membership. Plus you’ve got your Peloton!
I’m running in a 4-mile turkey trot on Thanksgiving morning. It will be an automatic PR since I’ve never run a race of that distance before! π
Thanks Debbie! Yeah, it just made sense and my heart really wasn’t at LA Fitness anymore since it’s gone through so many changes over the years.
Sorry, you’ve been dealing with both back and knee pain. It’s great that you can still do both OTF and the Peloton. With just a 10K coming up in a couple of weeks, my mileage is staying pretty low too.
It feels weird doing such little mileage right? I don’t think I’ll ever get used to it.
The lower back pain really put a damper on the second half of my marathon. I hope it does not reoccur.
Iβve heard great things about OTF. There isnβt one near me and I travel a lot.
I plan to run a turkey trot. But just for fun
I’ve also dealt with lower back pain during a race – definitely not fun at all π
I’m also just running my turkey trot for fun π
Glad the knee and back are on the mend-ish and you have some ideas for tackling your back long term. I have a feeling I’m going to reinvest my Rogue $ into OTF, especially if they open one right near me. Congrats on the new 500m benchmark!
Thanks Cari! I’m hoping I can’t get a handle on the back pain before it gets worse.
What a bummer about your back and knee. Hope they get better soon. You continue to amaze me with all of your classes. I am glad you enjoy them! We are going to my sister’s place for Thanksgiving. Very low key. I am happy it will be a short work week. π
I am so happy that this is a short work week too!
A free turkey trot sounds perfect for Thanksgiving! Sounds like a good plan to back off the running a bit. My posture is terrible too and I am starting to notice the effects of it.
I really have to make an effort to work on my posture while sitting at work. Just this morning I’ve caught myself several times using bad posture – ugh!
I always feel exhausted after a big goal race and find that sometimes a break is exactly what the body and mind needs. Hope you manage to sort the back and knee issues – the back may be due to posture at your desk as you say. I spend most of my time sitting at work, and my posture is really not the best. Have fun at the Turkey Trot!
I’m totally with you there – a break was very much needed, especially after training through the summer heat!
Glad that the ART treatment helped out and you felt a bit better afterward. And that’s a pretty great variety of workouts you got in during the week π
I feel you on the back pain thing! I am dealing with stiffness myself. Trying to relieve it with Physical Therapy. Love your medal from the half! Happy almost turkey day!
ah Kim I’m so sorry you’ve been having pain in your back and knee! I have a lot of issues with my back from sitting at work and from stress. I broke down and had a massage almost 2 weeks ago because it was killing. And strangely enough my friend Vincent always has an issue in the back of his knee and this happened right after NYC! I wonder if it’s just from training/ running/ over-training? Fingers crossed you will be pain free very soon. I don’t know if you want to roll your back but I find it helps tremendously, even if it is only temporary. I can send you a little video on how I do it if you like (a trick I learned in my mobility class)?
I so wish we had OTF. I could have seen this coming with you too haha! Hey stick with what you love and get rid of what you don’t. I may cancel my gym membership in June, now that we are getting a spin bike and a sub to Les Mills online.
Have a great thanksgiving!
My art doctor recommended rolling my back so I’m going to do that tonight. I’m also thinking of getting a massage soon too.
Thanks Renee! Love what you said about doing what makes me happy – that’s always what is most important, right?!
Wow you had a busy week! I’m helping organize an unofficial turkey trot at our local trail. Complete with our second annual Green Bean Casserole mile.!
I love that you help organize a turkey trot – that must be so much fun!
We need to be friends on Peloton! I don’t have a bike, but I use it for runs and strength classes :). Find me @nickidrink π
I’m going to add you now π
This year, I’m teaching a 60-minute cycle class on Thanksgiving morning. I can’t wait!
I had never heard of an ART doctor, but now I’m down a Google rabbit hole! This is fascinating stuff!
Ohh that sounds like fun! Way to get in a burn before enjoying the Thanksgiving meal π
Our family is going to be running a turkey trot with our friends. The run will be at a park and then we are having breakfast at the park together. I love running on Thanksgiving! Enjoy your holiday!
That sounds like the perfect Thanksgiving morning!
Sorry to hear about your back and knee pain. I’ve been trying to get regular deep tissue massages (about once a month) but have had to cancel a few because of work travel. I finally got one in on Sunday and it was amazing. After all the races I’ve done recently I was surprised to hear him say my legs didn’t seem tight.
No grand plans for Thanksgiving…I will be working! We go to my husband’s cousin’s house each year. She lives pretty near my job so I will join them after work.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
I think I’m going to schedule a deep tissue massage. I’m so long overdo (like over a year). I keep putting it off but I really think I need to get one.
Sounds like you are ready to go!
I love your variety and how you are able to mix up so many different workouts.
We already celebrated Thanksgiving so we are going to a friend’s house tomorrow. I’m not sure what the rest of the weekend will hold with my leg, but I can tell you that there will be no turkey trot for me.
Sending you tons of hugs and healing vibes Jenn!
Between Pelaton and OTF, makes sense to drop the gym!
Yeah I figured it was time to let it go!
Thatβs great that youβre having a great time with OTF! I hope you have fun at the turkey trot tomorrow too! I did a 20 mile hike on Sunday and Iβve been kinda tired out so that derailed my workout plans for Monday and kinda Tuesday. Hopefully will get back on track today and throughout the rest of the week! :p
Wow a 20 mile hike? That’s awesome!
