Happy Sunday! I hope everyone had a great week and I’m wishing all the moms out there a very Happy Mother’s Day!
Here’s how my workouts went this week:
Monday, May 2
Soft Rock Ride 4/28/22 – Mila (15 minutes)
Pop Punk Ride 4/23/22 – Camila (20 minutes)
90s Walk 12/27/21 – Marcel D (20 minutes)
Hip Hop Walk 5/2/22 – Jermaine (30 minutes)
Both rides were good and had great playlists, especially the pop punk ride. Jermaine’s live class worked with my scheduled so I decided to hop on. I don’t do live classes that often but it’s always fun to see so many people on the leaderboard.
Tuesday, May 3
Country Rock Ride 4/30/22 – Benny (20 minutes)
Metal Ride 4/21/22 – Charlotte (15 minutes)
Rock Chest & Back Strength 5/2/22 – Marcel M (20 minutes)
80s Walk 10/18/21 – Marcel D (30 minutes)
2000’s Walk 11/10/21 – Marcel D (20 minutes)
On the Leaderboard: Peloton Walk 5/2/22 (Jess)
Oof..these rides were rough. I like rock music, but obviously metal and country rock are not my thing. Luckily all of the walks I did were great and I really enjoyed the music. Peloton also started a new series called On the Leaderboard and made those classes available on the treadmill and bike (previously the series was just on YouTube). This episode was with Jess Sims and Usain Bolt. My only complaint is that it wasn’t longer because I really enjoyed their conversation.
Wednesday, May 4
System of a Down Ride 4/17/22 – Erik (20 minutes)
System of a Down Ride 5/3/22 – Camila (20 minutes)
System of a Down Arms & Shoulders Strength 5/1/22 – Adrian (20 minutes)
Rock Walk 2/2/22 – Marcel D (30 minutes)
On the Leaderboard: Peloton Walk 5/2/22 (Olivia)
Absolutely loved this stack of classes! All the System of a Down classes were great, even Erik’s ride in German. Marcel’s class was really good and focused more on 80s rock songs. I have really gravitated more toward Marcel lately since I’ve only been able to do walks and upper body workouts. She’s just so funny and always have a lot of energy on the tread.
Thursday, May 5
Iron Maiden Ride 4/18/22 – Kendall (20 minutes)
Korn Ride 4/29/22 – Jess K (20 minutes)
Korn Run 4/22/22 – Adrian (20 minutes)
Iron Maiden Boxing Bootcamp 5/2/22 – Selena (20 minutes)
System of a Down Run 4/17/22 – Daniel (20 minutes)
I’ll admit that while I’ve heard of Iron Maiden, I don’t know any of their songs, and I can’t say I enjoyed their songs either. On the other hand, I’m super familiar with Korn since they were out during my high school/college days and those classes were great. Also, it was my first back to running after a little over 2 weeks. Overall it felt fine, but the first 10 minutes were a little clunky (legs felt heavy, stride felt off, etc).
Friday, May 6
Weezer Ride 4/17/22 – Christine (20 minutes)
Jimi Hendrix Ride 5/3/22 – Denis (20 minutes)
Jimi Hendrix Arms & Light Weights 5/3/22 – Sam (10 minutes)
Weezer Run 4/28/22 – Becs (20 minutes)
Jimi Hendrix Run 4/19/22 – Andy (20 minutes)
I’ve loved Weezer for years so those classes were super fun. Although I do enjoy music by Jimi Hendrix, it’s a little on the slow side for workouts.
Saturday, May 7
Metal Barre 5/6/22 – Ally (10 minutes)
System of a Down Ride 5/7/22 – Jess K (20 minutes)
Korn Shadowboxing 5/6/22 – Jermaine (20 minutes)
Soft Rock Walk 5/6/22 – Matty (20 minutes)
Grunge Yoga Flow 5/3/22 – Kristen (20 minutes)
Decided to mix things up a bit and do a little bit of everything. Although the barre class was only 10 minutes, my legs were feeling the burn during that class!
Sunday, May 8
Mana Yoga Flow 5/7/22 – Mariana (20 minutes)
I had a bunch of classes stacked for today but most likely won’t get to them. I’ve been dealing with a pretty bad headache all day so I think the yoga class I did will be the extent of my workout for today.
Summary:
Running – 5.82 miles
Cycle – 44.07 miles
Strength Training – 80 minutes
Orangetheory Fitness – 0 minutes
Peloton Artist Series Classes – 566/596
Earlier in the week, a black bear somehow made his way near downtown Stamford. I am still trying to figure out how he got there! He was in the tree for a few hours, surrounding by bystanders and police. I’m not quite sure why animal control wasn’t called? Apparently the police were there a few hours and left while the bear was still in the tree. The bear was going the next morning so I guess he’s still roaming around the city somewhere. It was all very bizarre.
I’m sure everyone has seen the story about the parents that let their young child run the Flying Pig Marathon? Yikes – what a mess! Since I don’t have kids I try really hard not to judge parents because I’m sure they are doing their best, but in this case I’m totally judging because this is completely insane. Also, what was the race organization thinking? Just a lot of bad decisions all around.
…and now for this week’s memes.
That’s it! I hope you had a great week š

Love the pizza comment, so true!
The 6 year old competing the Flying Pig marathon makes me so sad, I’m glad they are getting backlash, a kid that young can’t decide to do one, the parents clearly influenced him and some of what I read said he was crying and wanted to quit. That’s not healthy for a child. And they are getting so much praise on their social media (or maybe they just scrub out the bad comments?) So sad.
I don’t think I know any Iron Maiden songs either! Korn was big when I was in high school too, but I don’t think I know much of it. I don’t pay as close of attention to the actual music in the classes though, but that’s probably because I’m only doing the strength, I’m sure I would pay more attention for spin or running!
kookyrunner says
Oh wow, I didn’t hear that about the kid crying. That’s just so awful and shame on his parents for making him do that. It seems like they did it for “likes” on social media which is also just so concerning.
I tend to pay more attention to the songs during runs vs rides, probably because I try to match the cadence of songs when I run.
Darlene Cardillo says
Glad you return to running went well. It’s is always hard about a break.
Another impressive week of workouts.
Can’t imagine how a 6 year COULD run 26.2 miles… crazy.
Love the pizza meme.
kookyrunner says
Yeah I figured it would be a little rough at first, but I’m glad to be back to running.
Cari says
Yay on the return to running. and YES YES on the pizza. Totally agree re: six year old marathoner. Just not OK!
They need more country rock runs š
But generally I think the last month or so have been a good cross section of musical genres
kookyrunner says
It’s a big no from me for the country rock classes, lol. I actually would prefer regular country. I also agree that Peloton has really stepped it up with the music offerings lately – there’s even a Yo Yo Ma series this week for all the classical music lovers.
Cari says
I saw one of the Becs classical ones. Not sure I could work out to classical – maybe stretching or yoga though
kookyrunner says
I did a classical run with Becs once and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be, lol. I was very Zen the whole run.
Jenny says
No, I hadn’t heard that story about the marathon! What a crazy situation. So bizarre that the race officials allowed that.
It’s funny how hard running feels when you come back to it after a layoff. But you weren’t off that long- it should come back quickly. Reading your post, I’m amazed at the variety of classes on Peloton! I just do the same things over and over again- I should branch out more.
kookyrunner says
Yes! I can’t believe the race officials thought that it was okay to allow this. So disappointing on so many levels.
Kimberly Hatting says
You always have such a great variety of workouts! I’m really loving the Rock22 classes, but am having a tough time keeping up! Obviously, I don’t need to do ALL of them, but it’s really hard to pick and choose.
kookyrunner says
I have this thing where I always complete all of the classes in a series that gives badges, so I’ll be working my way through all the Rock 22 classes this month, lol.
Deborah Brooks says
I also liked the chat w Jess and Usain bolt however, I don’t think he really thought it was hard LOL. It is. way more interesting thing than the podcast. I hope you feel better and hope your mom had a nice day today
kookyrunner says
LOL I agree – I don’t think he found it too challenging, but I enjoyed their conversation. I agree with you about the podcast – I listened to one and found it to be just okay, but might give it another chance.
Marcia says
Yes I’m always interested to know the origins of a good-looking pizza! We actually found a new pizza spot on Saturday that we’ll definitely be returning to. Haha! I runfess I had to do a Korn workout to be reminded of their music. I decided not to even read the details of the 6 yr old marathoner. Trying not to judge but geez. That cannot be a good decision.
kookyrunner says
Finding new pizza places is always such an unexpected surprise lol.
The story about the 6 year old marathoner is just..I have no words. I really hope the parents didn’t do it to get “likes” on social media.

I don’t know if there’s ever been a bear in downtown Albany (at least not while I’ve lived here) but we do get bears around the area occasionally. sometimes on the bike trails we run on!
Sounds like a pretty good week for you, Kim!
kookyrunner says
Yeah we don’t really get bears in that area of town since it’s not a wooded area so it was very strange!
Michelle says
Such a great mix of workouts – glad you were able to get back to running this week. I love that meme about hiding your facial expression – I have those moments often on Zoom calls lol.
Don’t even get me started on the 6-year-old running the marathon…
kookyrunner says
Thanks Michelle! I often have to remind myself that I’m on camera during calls. Sometimes people just say things that make me want to roll my eyes, lol.
Yeah, that story about the 6 year old just keeps crossing my mind. Those parents are a piece of work.
Wendy says
Your comments about the music reminded me why I don’t use guided runs! Even my pool workouts have background music that i don’t like–I wish I could somehow combine the instructor’s guidance with my music in the background, lol.
That family of the 6 year old also had 2 12 year olds running the marathon. It is absolutely ridiculous. Shame on Flying Pig for letting it happen.
kookyrunner says
Wow, well it will be very interesting to see how this all plays out. I know the race organization was getting a lot of backlash online, as well as the parents.
