Happy Sunday π Before I get started, CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF THE NYC MARATHON FINISHERS!!
It was another busy week! I finished up Orangetheory Fitness Hell Week, celebrated Halloween and took part in some of the New York City Marathon festivities.
Here’s how my workouts went this week.
Monday, October 28
Orangetheory Fitness – Hell Week Day 5 (60 minutes).
Monday was super rough – the day just dragged on and on and I didn’t have any energy. I tried out this energy drink and loved the flavor! I used to drink their orange flavored drink, but the watermelon was super tasty and gave me energy I really needed to get through class.
This class was bananas! The treadmill to floor switches were brutal, but the 13.5 minute row was down right sweaty and hard. I’ve never rowed for that long in my life. I probably started out a little too fast and I was dying by the final minute. After the rowing section, each person told the coach how many meters they rowed and they put that number in their system.
After all of the classes, the studio calculated everyone’s row number and came up with the average. Stamford came in 3rd when compared against the other studios in the state. I think this is amazing since our studio isn’t even a year old yet – we rocked it!
Tuesday, October 29
Peloton Cycle (40 minutes).
My legs really needed some TLC and spinning usually helps to flush them out. I took two fun 20 minutes classes.
Wednesday, October 30
Orangetheory Fitness – Hell Week Day 7 (60 minutes).
Well this class lived up to it’s name – it was psycho! Between all of the row/treadmill switches and burpees on the floor, I was absolute beat by the end of class, but I was rewarded with my Hell Week shirt after class!
Thursday, October 31
Peloton Cycle (30 minutes).
Decided to get in a short workout on Halloween, it was fun!
We also upgraded to giving out full size candy cars to the trick or treaters this year! π
Friday, November 1
Rest Day.
No workout today but I did volunteer at the New York City Marathon Expo! This was my second time volunteering at the Expo and it was super fun. I was in charge of giving out the official race shirts to runners (Women’s Size XL to be exact). It was nice to talk to the runners and wish them luck on their big race!
Saturday, November 2
NYRR Dash to the Finish Line 5K.
I have a love/hate relationship with this race. I love it because the route is amazing (you run down 42nd street, 6th avenue and cross the same finish line as the marathon), but I hate it because I have to catch a super early train into the city and it’s a very crowded race!
Sunday, November 3
6 mile run.
I woke with a very achy back which meant I couldn’t go into NYC to cheer on the marathon runners – I was pretty bummed π I took things slow in the morning – made coffee, ate breakfast, took 2 Motrin and used heat and a massager on my back – all while watching the NYC Marathon on TV. By the afternoon I was feeling much better and decided I would try to run. Luckily I was able to get through 6 miles while tracking all my friends running the race!
Total Weekly Mileage: 12.3 miles
Summary: 4 runs, 2 strength training workouts, 3 cycle classes
Grade This Week β B+
I was so happy to get through my very first Orangetheory Fitness Hell Week! The classes were definitely intense and I know that it’s a lot of work for a t-shirt, but for me it was more about the journey than the shirt!
I wrapped up the month with 75 miles. Lower than the previous few months, but I guess that happens with tapering for a marathon and marathon recovery both happen in the same month π
I also finished up the Peloton Fall Launch Challenge on Thursday. I did at least one Peloton class every day from October 1-31. This time I mixed it up between meditation, yoga, spinning and stretching classes.
That’s it! I hope you had a great week π
Iβm linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

Congrats on making it through Hell Week! Those workouts are no joke. How cool to place third among all the CT OTFs! That’s awesome! I entertained getting full-sized candy this year but in my heart of hearts I know we barely get anybody at the door anymore. Turns out with the snow we got ZERO so I’m happy to not have full-size bars staring at me. Haha!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Marcia! The workouts were intense and I’m looking forward to going back to the regular crazy OTF classes next week, lol.
Catrina says
Great that you could be a volunteer at the expo! I bet you were super encouraging to all the runners picking up their stuff. What a shame about your back though! Do you think itβs from the intense workouts?
Congrats on a great βhellβ week!
kookyrunner says
I’ve been having some issues with my back on and off for the past year, but I don’t think the workouts last week helped. I think I need to slow down a bit!
Coco says
Congrats on completing Hell Week! It’s cool that your studio ranked in the US workout. I don’t know how mine fared. I do love the t-shirt, but that meme is spot on. Congrats on the 5K! That sounds like a fun route.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Coco! I was so proud of my studio – I was “Go Us!” lol.
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
What a busy week for you! I also did the 30 day fall challenge I love how that pushes me to do more stretching too. That is a lot of work for a t shirt!
kookyrunner says
Me too! It forces me to take classes that I normally wouldn’t which is great because then I end up linking them π
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Sorry the achy back prevented you from cheering in person, but Iβll bet volunteering was fun! Wish we lived closer so it wasnβt such a loooong train ride.
Sounds like you had a very fit week!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Judy! I don’t live too far away from NYC but it would have taken me about 1.5 hours to get to the race form my house. That combined with all of the standing wouldn’t have been good for my back – I was pretty bummed but happy that it’s feeling better today.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Congrats again on Hell Week – those workouts sounded crazy hard!
Sorry about your back, but glad you were still able to run this afternoon. Maybe an extra rest day will help!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Michelle! I have a feeling that once you try OTF, you’re gonna love it and want to keep going back π
Kimberly Hatting says
Would you believe I also had an achy back this morning? After I got moving (and did my short run), things felt better. I had my race yesterday, than was on my feet from the time I got home until about 9:00 when our daughter’s party was winding down. That Hell Week looks so PSYCHO. Proud of you for getting that tank!
kookyrunner says
Well that’s one thing that I wish we were NOT twinning on, lol. Back pain is so frustrating. I actually talked to a runner at the Expo about cupping and he said it’s really helped with the tightness in his back so I might look into that.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
That Hell Week tank is definitely worth it – says the girl who didn’t go through Hell Week! LOL Seriously, that ‘s a cool shirt. You should be proud!
I hope your back is feeling better! What a bummer to plan to go cheer on the NYC marathoners and not be able to. Kudos to you for volunteering at the expo, though!
Have a great week!
kookyrunner says
It was a lot of work for a shirt but I really did enjoy the challenge!
I was pretty bummed about yesterday but thankful that I was able to volunteer at the Expo and take part in the 5K on Saturday.
Liz Dexter says
Ah, that explains why my mileage is lower this year – tapering for two races and recovering from them. A good week – I don’t know how you do those Orange Theory classes. So strong!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Liz!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Even though your mileage was lower you are doing all those really tough Orange Theory workouts! Sounds like fun to volunteer at the expo. And thats pretty cool that you got to do that race that ends at the same finish line as the marathon!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Lisa! I’m hoping to get more of a balance between OTF and running this week as I have a half marathon next weekend.
Elaine D says
Impressed with your efforts! The Orange Theory workouts are no joke π NYC marathon is my favorite and most memorable race- that’s awesome you’re able to take part in it as a volunteer.
kookyrunner says
NYC marathon weekend is always so much fun and I’m sad when it’s over π
Sandy says
That meme made me LOL! I know nothing about OTF but I’ve been seeing hell week all over social media! Looks TOUGH! I love that NYC Vibes top.
kookyrunner says
That meme was so funny – I just had to share!
Madhusree Basu says
Congrats on completing the Hell Week. I hope your back is feeling better. Your T-shirt is really cool – loved it.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much!
De Bolton says
I saw Hell Week on the gram and it looked tough. Good job finishing strong and I am sure you were appreciated for your Candy size upgrade lol. Sounds like you had an awesome week!
kookyrunner says
Thanks De! I think the kids were very pleased with the full size candy bars π
Zenaida Arroyo says
That is some great candy you gave out on Thursday!! Please send me any extras you have. π Congrats on finishing up Hell Week. Love how dedicated and motivated you are.
kookyrunner says
LOL, I was actually happy that I didn’t have any candy leftover…too much temptation!
Wendy says
I”m not sure how I missed your post but better late than never! What a month you’ve had! I sure hope you’re going to take it easier this month. Hell week sounds hellish! Kind of like CrossFit… lol.
Nice work!
kookyrunner says
I’m glad that the OTF workouts will go back to “normal” this month – still hard but not to the point where I want to pass out, lol.
RenΓ©e says
Kim you had an amazing week. I’m still in awe/shock at those hell week workouts! It is about the shirt but it’s also really cool to see how you can push yourself. you did a great job!
how far are you actually from NYC?
good to see that mom was with you too for the 5K. sorry to hear about your back. you know I can relate.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Renee! I am happy that Hell Week is over – that was rough, especially a week after the marathon, lol.
I’m about a 50 minute train ride from Grand Central Station, not that far but not that close unfortunately!
Jenn says
Yes. A shirt is always worth it!
I cannot wait to run a race (any race) in NYC. We are going this summer and I just hope we can schedule around a fun race!
kookyrunner says
Check out NYRR.com – They have a calendar of all their races (most are in Central Park). They have a ton in the summer so hopefully you will find one that works!
Cari says
Oh damn, wish I’d remembered you were running Dash – I’d have come to the finish to spectate and meet you.
Sorry ab out your bad back, but glad it relented enough to enjoy a run on the beautiful day.
Congrats on an amazing Hell Week
kookyrunner says
Thanks Cari! The Dash race is always so crowded – it’s so hard to find anyone at that race!
My back feels better but I just wish I could get to the route of the issue. I really hope it doesn’t flare up during my half marathon next weekend.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Nice week!! Congrats on getting through Hell Week. Thats a ton of stuff going on! Glad the back didn’t bother you for long. And wait, full size candy bars? Did you win the lottery too? π My kids always made a beeline to the houses handing those out.
kookyrunner says
The full size candy bars went over well so I think we will do that again next year!
