Happy Sunday π So this is the last Weekly Run Down post of 2019. It feels weird just typing that!
Although I don’t have any time off work during the holidays, my schedule is a little more “relaxed” so Im thankful for that. I’m also thankful for the lack of meetings/conference calls and peace and quiet to get work done. That being said, I enjoyed a lot of morning workouts this week, which is always a huge bonus for me!
Here’s how my workouts went this week:
Monday, December 23
OrangeTheory Fitness – Power (60 minutes).
I really love Power days at OTF because we get to lift a little heavier, but there were some burpees with weights in this workout that I wasn’t thrilled about, lol.
Tuesday, December 24
OrangeTheory Fitness – ESP (90 minutes).
This was my first 90 minute OTF workout and I still can’t believe I made it through the workout! It was hard and after 60 minutes my body was like “what are we still doing here?” LoL. Also I think something was wrong with my heart rate monitor because there’s no way I only got 20 splat points in 90 minutes (I usually average 25 splat points in a 60 minute class).
I also picked up my gift from the studio for participating in the Sleigh the Holidays Challenge in December. I love the gloves – they will be perfect for running!
Wednesday, December 25
3.1 mile run.
Merry Christmas! Started off the morning with my annual Christmas Day 5K. I always enjoying getting in a run on Christmas morning because it’s so peaceful outside.
I also went all out for my Christmas dinner outfit. Penguins are my spirit animals.
Thursday, December 26
3 mile run
I got in a 3 mile run before logging in for work. It was nice to get it done early in the morning.
I went to Target and the mall to do some after Christmas shopping. Target barely had anything left so that was a bust – I just got a box of Christmas cards and a few gift bags. I also stopped by a calendar store to get a desk calendar – for half off π – for my desk at my job. I decided on this one and I’m looking forward to all the different ideas each day!
Friday, December 27
OrangeTheory Fitness – Endurance Power (60 minutes)
This was my first endurance power OTF workout and it was pretty cool! We had lots of treadmill to row switches and a lot of different exercises on the floor.
It was also Pajama Day at the studio! My mom and I were the only ones that dressed up (lol) but it was still fun.
Saturday, December 28
4 mile run
I got through my run on Christmas Day but it didn’t feel all that great. Luckily this run felt a lot better. The temperature was pretty perfect as well – around 42 degrees with plenty of sunshine. Also for the first time I ran a faster pace and didn’t feel like death at the end of the run – thank you OrangeTheory for the increased endurance!
…and my day got even better when my college won the Cotton Bowl! #WeArePennState #GoNittanyLions π
Sunday, December 29
Peloton Cycle (60 minutes).
Of course on the one day I could “sleep in” I was still up at 5am. After laying in be I decided to get in my workout early. I really love these two instructors so it was an hour of fun and sweat!
Total Weekly Mileage: 16.5 miles
Summary: 6 runs, 2 cycle classes and 3 OTF workouts
Grade This Week β A+
I’m really happy with my workouts from this past week! It felt like a great way to close out 2019.
Today I used that Top9 app to generate my top 9 Instgram posts from the year, but I really wasn’t happy with the photos. It’s always odd to me which photos get the most likes! So I decided to make my own top 9 grids – one for running and one for OTF.
If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I was in the holiday spirt. On my IG stories, I posted that I attempted to do some holiday baking earlier in the week. Let’s just say, it didn’t go well:
They were supposed to be “mini” cakes in holiday shapes (Christmas tree, gingerbread man, candy cane, etc). I overcooked them so they were dry and as you can see I did a horrible job on the frosting. I’m not a baker at all, but at least I tried, LOL.
Speaking of the holidays, I saw this on Instagram and couldn’t help but to laugh out loud because this is exactly how I’ve been feeling lately.
On a totally different subject, I saw this post on Twitter and almost fell out of my chair. How is this actually possible?! I’m about to start a YouTube channel, lol.
That’s it for this week! I hope that you have an amazing New Year Eve celebration and welcome 2020 with open arms! π
That’s it! I hope you had a great week π
Iβm linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

You worked this week – that’s tough! But you are right, it’s a great time to catch up on things without those pesky meetings and conf calls.
You had an awesome fitness week! I can’t even imagine surviving 60 minutes of OTF, never mind 90 minutes!
Something I always wanted to ask: what exactly are splat points?
kookyrunner says
I’m doing another 90 minute class on NYE – please send prayers, lol.
For OTF you get a splat point for every minute you are in the orange and red zones, so basically anything 84% or more of your heart rate. The goal is to get at least 12 splay points per workout.
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
These last few weeks sure did fly by! I love all the holiday spirit you have. How great is it that your mom is all in on OTF as well? Looks like a great week of family fun.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I figure the holidays only roll around once a year, and this is my favorite time of the year, so I like to go all out! My moms loves OTF as much as I do π
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Fantastic week Kim! I still can’t believe you took on a 90-minute OTF class – mad props on that one!
And I love your top nines – great idea to create one for running and OTF!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Michelle! I have another 90 min OTF class on NYE – please send prayers LOL
Wendy says
Ha to that last meme! I asked one of my teenaged patients what his plans were after high school and he told me he’s going to be a YouTuber and make millions of dollars. I told him he should have a backup plan. (you can imagine me struggling not to roll my eyes)
Anyways, I love how much you’ve embraced OTF. I swear if I didn’t have CrossFit, I’d be there too. I love the variety and the challenge of the bootcamp style workouts. Not while I am doing them, but after!!
Have a Happy New Year Kim!
kookyrunner says
LOL I hear you on not having to roll your eyes at a comment like that. I would have a hard time keeping a straight face if I heard that !
YES! It’s all about the variety for me and I love that I can always make mini goals for myself – lift a little heavier, do an extra rep, run a little faster on the treadmill, etc.
Chocolaterunsjudy says
LOL, pretty sure iβm Not going to make money on YouTube, thatβs not why I started the channel luckily.
I love that your mom goes to OTF with you! Go mom!
Sounds like you got opine plenty of movement this week β nice job, Kim!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Judy!
Jessie says
You need to be an ambassador for OTF π You’re marketing them for free to a big audience!
I had a similar week where I still had to work, but it was quieter. Quite nice actually.
Happy holidays!
kookyrunner says
LOL! Actually I should see if I can work there part time to get my membership for free – I would love that!
Coco says
I still havenβt done a 90 min OTF class! Is there a screen where you can see your heart rate graph? I used the OTF Beats app for that, but itβs being discontinued. With that, you can see if your HRM was really messed up. I donβt get any points on the floor section, and need long rowing goals to get splat points on the rower.
Love your Christmas 5K tradition!
kookyrunner says
They have two big boards that we can view to see out progress throughout class. During the 90 min class I was going SUPER hard on the rower and I was barely in the green so that’s how I knew something was wrong, lol. Luckily my heart rate monitor is working fine now. I’m going another 90 min class for NYE – wish me luck lol.
Kimberly Hatting says
Your Christmas penguin outfit is killer!!!! I don’t think I’d seen that…was it on Insta? What a great week for you π Glad to see the Nittany Lions won…we need more Big 10 schools to come through, especially after Ohio State’s train wreck last night LOL Best wishes for a great 2020, #KimTwin π
kookyrunner says
Thank you π I was also impressed with the amount of penguins on display in my Christmas Day outfit lol. I posted it on my IG stories but not as a separate post on insta.
I was very happy watching the OSU trainwreck this weekend – LOL
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
Hee hee, I feel like I always get at least one “pinterest fail” in my holiday baking and this year was no exception. I made what were supposed to be imitation Lofthouse cookies and they were just weird. Happy Running!
kookyrunner says
Happy to meet another fellow Pinterest fail person, lol. But hey, at least we tried, right?
Marcia says
Woot for an A+ week! You killed it and in festive style too. The only thing I baked here was sugar cookies because of course the kids are drawn to all the fancy icing. I’ll just say right now, icing is HARD! I heard about that Youtube sensation. Seriously WTH?!?
kookyrunner says
Icing is hard! Especially for someone like me that has no patience, LOL
Darlene says
Wow. What a busy week and kudos on all that activity. That means you can eat more, right?
I am eating more but not as active.
But I have been ignoring my foot and running…makes me feel better.
Maybe I meed to start a youtube channel to pay for my race-cations LOL
kookyrunner says
I’ve been indulging way too much and I can feel the weight gain. Time to get back on track this week!
LOL you have a point – maybe we should all start running Youtube channels!
Liz Dexter says
A great week! Even though you get tired out at the strength training, you’re still OK to run as normal, is that correct? I’m trying to work out how to ramp up to my next marathon while getting stronger and if that’s going to work for me.
Oh and I LOVE your holiday-themed outfits!
kookyrunner says
Yup, thats correct – I may get a little tired from the strength training but I still have enough energy to run. It’s a balancing act for sure though!
Thanks Liz! This is my favorite time of the year so I really like to get festive!
Chaitali says
Great job this week! And I love that desk calendar, what a great idea π
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I’m looking forward to using that calendar next year.
Meliss says
Great job getting in those workouts PLUS working. I’ve always been curious about OTF, but never tried it out. I think I’d like at least the treadmill portion?
kookyrunner says
Thanks Melissa! You should try out OTF – your first class is free. You would like the treadmill portion because you mix up the inclines and speeds so it’s never boring. The floor portion does use a lot of weights but that’s great too because of the variety of the moves.
Jenn says
Looks like you had a wonderful Christmas! I wish I could have enjoyed all the food a little more but my appetite is still so very shot. Oh well.
Love that you were able to get in so many fun OTF workouts this week and that you have more of a relaxed time at work right now. That’s got to be nice.
kookyrunner says
Yes, even though I have to work, it’s been nice that there aren’t so many meetings and calls.
RenΓ©e says
a seriously hard-working week Kim! you “sleighed” the workouts !!
your mom’s shirt makes me giggle so hard π
glad you had a good week though and wishing you a great NYE! and seriously. PEACE OUT 2019!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Renee! I am so looking forward to all new adventures in 2020 π
Zenaida Arroyo says
I love the outfit you wore on Christmas. You and your mom are so cute going along with the theme days at Orange Theory. Oh and I hear ya about that 8 year old…how is it possible?!?!!?!
kookyrunner says
Right?! I need to know that kid’s secret to making that much money on Youtube!
Shathiso says
First things first, I am voting you and your mum for best Holiday Season outfits for 2019! You two raised the bar on that front! Love it π But on another note, seeing as the penguin is your spirit animal if ever you are in my part of the world, you’ll have to visit Simon’s Town (close to Cape Town South Africa). There is a huge colony of African penguins living in their natural habitat. A must-see for any penguin person.
kookyrunner says
Awwe thanks so much! We both love the holidays so we take any opportunity to be festive!
I didn’t know that Cape Town had such a huge penguin colony – that’s amazing!!
