Happy Sunday! I’m still somewhat in a recovery week, but I’m back to my schedule of 6 workouts a week. It’s currently pouring rain here (bummer) so I’m happy I got my workout done earlier this morning. Before I get into this weeks recap, a HUGE congratulations to everyone that ran the Marine Corps Marathon today!! The weather was far from ideal but you all kicked butt – super proud of all of you.
Here’s how my workouts went this week.
Monday, October 21
Peloton Cycle Classes (60 minutes).
Oh it felt great to get back on the Peloton bike! I took two 30 minute classes and each one was great. It was a nice workout to do after a crazy busy day at work.
Tuesday, October 22
Rest Day.
I had to work from our NYC office for work so I was pretty tired by the time I got back home. I had to be in the office early (caught a 6:25am train from home), so I treated myself to my first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season on my walk from Grand Central Station to the office.
Wednesday, October 23
Boot Camp (60 minutes).
I haven’t done a class at my gym in about 3 weeks so it was nice to go back for the Wednesday night boot camp class. While I still prefer my OTF workouts, I really enjoy the instructor so that makes me want to continue to do this boot camp class as well.
Thursday, October 24
OrangeTheory Fitness – Hell Week Day 1 (60 minutes).
This day kicked off Hell Week at Orangetheory Fitness. It’s basically a week of super intense workouts – harder than their normal workouts. If you do at least 5 workouts during this week you’re rewarded with a Hell Week shirt 💀 . I swear, the things I’ll do for a free shirt… Moving on the workout was called “Pulse”. There was no floor/weights portion, just tons of switches from the rower to the treadmill. I ended the class with 39 splat points (which means I was at 84% or more of my maximum heart rate for 39 minutes of class), my highest ever. I was basically toast by the end of the class.
Friday, October 25
Orangetheory Fitness – Hell Week Day 2 (60 minutes).
I’m convinced the people in the corporate office were trying to kill us with this workout. Nothing but incline, incline and more incline on the treadmill. We kept going up 1% on the incline all the way until we reached 15%. I had to stop running/jogging once we hit 10% and just power walked the rest. The floor block consisted of 6 different arm exercises with multiple reps. Definitely left the studio with spaghetti arms. And no, I didn’t take class the next day to continue the torture with Split II, LOL.
Saturday, October 26
5 mile run.
My legs weren’t sore but they did feel tired, so this run was a struggle.
Sunday, October 27
Orangetheory Fitness – Hell Week Day 4 (60 minutes).
This was my 3rd class so I just have 2 more to go until I get my Hell Week shirt!
Today’s workout was CRAWL and I pretty much wanted to crawl out of the studio. Since this was a 3G class there were three different stations – run, row and floor. I ended up doing about 35 minutes straight of row/run switches. The floor consisted of ALL leg exercises. It was ROUGH.
Total Weekly Mileage: 10.5 miles
Summary: 4 runs, 4 strength training workouts, 2 cycle classes
Grade This Week – A
I guess I’m still technically recovering? I’m back to getting in my weekly workouts, but this week is a little bit extreme because of Hell Week at OTF. I have a desire to workout, but not run. I look forward to my spinning and OTF workouts but my desire to run is pretty much non-existent. I know that will change eventually, it just feels a little weird right now.
I’m technically training for the Charlotte Half Marathon in a few weeks so I really need to start bumping up my mileage on my Saturday runs. I really should have done 10 miles this past Saturday but I think we all know that wasn’t happening, LOL. Hopefully I’ll get in a few more runs next week. I have a 5K in NYC next Saturday so I’ll need to get in a longer run on a different day of the week.
Next week is the New York City Marathon – hooray!! I’m looking forward to volunteering at the Expo on Friday, running the Abbott Dash to the Finish 5K on Saturday and spectating the race on Sunday. It’s going to be a jam packed, but fun weekend!
That’s it! I hope you had a great week 🙂
I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

The way you feel about the free shirt is the same way I feel about Strava challenges, anything for the badge. In my book your extra OTF probably gave you the equivalent of a 10 miler for Saturday.
kookyrunner says
I’ve been getting more into the Strava challenges over the past few months too, lol 🙂
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
OTC Hell Week sounds pretty intense! Good for you getting it done! Working at the New York marathon would be a lot of fun. You get some really cool swag too, right?
kookyrunner says
Thanks Lisa! It’s been a challenge which I appreciate, I just wish I wasn’t so darn sore@
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
Those OTF workouts sound crazy! I tried one of Tunde cycle classes and really liked her. I like to have a few back up instructors that I like. I think you are more than ready for your half!
kookyrunner says
The OTF workouts are hard on a normal day, but these Hell Week workouts are next level crazy!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Hell Week sounds so intense – I’m not surprised your legs were tired. I’m sure given all the OTF you’ll be ready for your half!
kookyrunner says
As I’m typing this, my arms are so sore, lol. I’m happy that my last Hell Week workout will be on Wednesday!
Marcia says
Definitely an A week and I wouldn’t worry about coming up short on long runs for your half. The Chi Marathon endurance will be there when you need it. Have fun at the NYCM expo. I’m loving all these big marathons…maybe because I’m NOT running them. Haha!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Marcia! I am really hoping that the Chicago Marathon endurance will pull me through. I have heard it’s a hilly course so I’m a little worried about that but slow and steady wins the race, right?
Zenaida Arroyo says
You crack me up! All of those workouts just for a shirt. 🙂 If that is what motivates you then go for it.
kookyrunner says
I know! It’s so silly when I write it down on paper, LOL.
Jessie says
Be kind to yourself and let your body and mind recover! You were dedicated to Chicago training and it sounds like you could use a bit more R&R.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Jessie – I know that you’re right!
Kimberly Hatting says
Holy Moly, Thierry OTF workouts are intense (even when it’s not Hell Week). Your running deserves time off, especially if you’re just not feeling it at the moment. You’re not gonna lose all that fitness in a couple weeks after all the work you put I go your marathon. Just go with shatter you’re feeling.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Kim. I know my running mojo will come back eventually, when I’m ready.
Liz Dexter says
So much strength training – I don’t know how you do it!
kookyrunner says
I actually really enjoy strength training while I’m doing it. What I don’t like is the post-workout soreness lol
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
I don’t know how you are doing all those Hell Week workouts so soon after your race- they seem so tough! I bet you are keeping up your fitness really well even without getting in a long run.
kookyrunner says
I’m not gonna lie, it’s been pretty rough these last few days but I am just trying to focus on the fact that I’ll be done soon, lol.
Chaitali says
Those hell week workouts sound tough! They’re really making you earn that shirt 🙂
kookyrunner says
Oh they are certainly making us earn these shirts, lol 🙂
Wendy says
Hell week sounds…hellish! But you know that’s right up my alley. Glad you’re doing it!
I’m pretty certain that you don’t need to stress too much about your half–all that marathon training will pay off for you. Just relax and enjoy the race!
kookyrunner says
LOL! You would love Hell Week because you’re the right type of crazy, just like me 🙂
Thanks for the good advice about the half – that’s exactly what I plan on doing. And since the race is early on a Saturday, I’ll have time to explore Charlotte before I fly back home on Sunday morning 🙂
Darlene says
OTF after a marathon. You are hardcore.
I wonder how long it will take me to recover/??
I didn’t realize that you worked in NYC.
See you on Sunday. Mile 18, right?
kookyrunner says
You probably won’t take that long to recover – you seem to bounce back from your long runs so quickly!
I don’t work in NYC but I normally work out of my job’s NYC office about once a month.
Yes! I’ll be at mile 18 (runners left) on Sunday 🙂
Jenn says
Get that shirt, girl!
Those sound like hard workouts. I wonder the same thing about the 9Round Corporate team sometimes. Who decided all these planks and burpees were ok???
You’ll get back in the groove again.
kookyrunner says
LOL thanks Jenn! Oh the things I’ll do for a shirt 🙂
I’m convinced these corporate teams design workouts to make us second guess our sanity, haha.
Flecks of Lex says
What a heck of a week! You make mine look like child’s play!
kookyrunner says
LoL thanks girl, I’m gonna scale back the workouts a little bit after Hell Week is over!
The Accidental Marathoner says
You are rocking your workouts post-Chicago. i’ve been doing fair; my usual M.O. Can you believe that weather for MCM yesterday? I have to think I would have bailed!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Linda! Msn, I felt so bad for those MCM runners yesterday. This morning I saw a photo of part of the course that was flooded and runners were knee deep in the water – it was nuts!
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
The way you’re feeling about running is normal…and also why I don’t sign up for races after full marathons. After both my fulls, I lost all desire to run. Last year I was already signed up for several races so I didn’t get to not run, but after my 10k in January and the Princess race in February I took almost the entire month of March off. I just wasn’t feeling it.
Also, girl I can’t believe you haven’t had a PSL yet! I had one August 29 when they first hit Starbucks! LOL.
kookyrunner says
That totally makes sense. I did sign up for a half marathon in November because I figured I could still bank on my marathon endurance to get through it, and it’s in a city I’ve never visited before so I’m making it a 3 day weekend.
LOL I was super late getting my PSL this season. I really have no excuse – I just forgot about it, haha.
Cari says
That is an EARLY train – hope you can sleep on it and / or had a good book
It’s near our gala season so I’ll be in the Starbucks, but I’ve been on a summer long 7 Eleven Irish Creme coffee kick
Congratulations on the first half of Hell Week
kookyrunner says
I can never sleep on trains or planes unfortunately so I was wide awake, lol.
Madhusree Basu says
You have become my inspiration…after such intense training for Chicago…you are still not expended…hats off to you…I don’t know how you do it…
kookyrunner says
That’s so sweet, thanks so much!
Renée says
damn woman! what a week! but um… I totally would be doing hell week with you for the tee shirt 😀
when are you at the expo again? My friend Vincent wants to try to come by to say hello. He’s the the one I used to go to spinning wiht a lot and I used to run in his running group? He’s super nervous about going to the states. Yesterday we were practising Englih a bit… it was interesting to say the least. Bless 😀
kookyrunner says
I’ll be at the Expo on Friday from 9-2 (I’ll be handing out the race shirts). Please tell him to ask for me and I’ll do my best to help him out!
Renée says
I let him know 🙂
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Great job on your workouts! Anything for a free shirt and a little bling, right?!
kookyrunner says
lol you know it!
