Happy Sunday! Well things have certainly changed a lot over the past week! No need to get into specifics since we’re all dealing with the same craziness, but man did this week feel like a month. I was so exhausted by the end of my workday on Friday that I just binge watched trashy reality TV for the rest of the night. It was all my brain could handle!
Here’s how my workouts went this week:
Monday, March 16
Orangetheory Fitness – Infinity Workout (60 minutes).
This workout was SO much fun, but hard. It was a good prep for the Dri Tri (which has been postponed). Lots of sweat and splat points. I was glad that I went to the 7am class because the state of Connecticut closed all gyms later on that day 🙁
I also did my final weigh-in for the Transformation Challenge. Overall, not bad since I lost fat and gained muscle, but I still want to lower that body fat percentage number.
Tuesday, March 17
OTF Friday the 13th Workout (at home) – 60 minutes.
First day without OTF 🙁 I decided to start off my day by repeating the OTF workout from Friday. I was able to do the treadmill (1 minute all out, 1 minute walking recovery, 3 min run for distance and 1 minute walking recovery) and floor portions (burpees, froggers, bicep curls, tricep extensions and squat jumps) but for the rower I ran 0.1 on the treadmill instead of rowing 100 meters. It was a killer workout!
Wednesday, March 18
Peloton Club Bangers Cycle Class (45 minutes) + OTF at Home Workout.
This was a really fun ride. My legs need a break from running but I still wanted to get a good cardio workout. I also did the first OTF at Home workout. OTF is providing everyone (not just members) access to their daily 30-35 minute at home workouts. I really appreciate that they are doing this to help keep us active while the studios are closed. You can access the free workouts on the OTF app or on the Orangetheory Fitness YouTube channel.
Thursday, March 19
3 mile run + OTF at Home Workout + 5 minute upper body workout.
I did another “copycat” OTF workout at home. I used a treadmill template from an OTF class in early March. The treadmill was a 3 minute push pace, 1 minute base base, 1 minute all out and 1 minute walking recovery. I repeated that 5x and then did the OTF at Home workout of the day.
Friday, March 20
ESP Treadmill Workouts + OTF at Home Workout.
Another copycat OTF workout – the treadmill portion included endurance, strength and power blocks. The OTF at home workout had an even mix of arm and leg exercises which was great.
Also, the OTF studios in the TriState area (Connecticut, New Jersey and New York) started a 2 week #OTFTriState Challenge. They are encouraging members to workout 3x a week and post their stats on Instagram. They also gave us this awesome graphic to use to mark down our workouts.
Saturday, March 21
5 mile run + OTF at Home Workout.
It was nice to see my friends for a group run. We did try to adhere to the 6 feet distance rule while running so I hope that we didn’t break any rules? I had a really good run and ran longer, and faster, then anticipated. The head coach from my studio did the OTF at Home workout live on Instagram so I tuned in to do that with him – it was fun!
Sunday, March 22
90s Peloton Cycle (45 minutes) + OTF at Home workout (strength portion).
This was a fun class and a few of my Instagram Peloton buddies joined me live for the ride 🙂 I wore my OTF Heart Rate Monitor during my cycle class and I couldn’t get in the orange zone, so no splat points. It’s odd because I felt like I was killing myself on the bike. Oh well, there’s always tomorrow’s workout.
For every class taken this weekend, Peloton is donating $1 to the Food Bank for New York City, up to $500,000. I was more than happy to do my part and take a class this weekend to support this cause.
Total Weekly Mileage: 14.7 miles
Summary: 5 runs*, 2 cycle classes, 4 OTF at home workouts and 1 OTF studio workout
*I include running from my OTF workouts and stand alone runs as well.
Grade This Week – A
What a crazy week! I am proud of myself for still getting in quality workouts even though things are so different. I’ve also been keeping in touch with my OTF Stamford family which has been nice (we’re all in this together)! I’m working from home until at least the end of the month but I have a feeling this will last into April, and maybe May. Pretty much everything in my state is shut down except for “essential businesses” – supermarkets, pharmacies, banks, etc. While I don’t mind working from home, I’m not sure how I’ll feel about doing it for weeks at a time. I do miss the office atmosphere and seeing other people throughout the day. One thing I did each day this week was to get out for a walk outside either during my lunch hour or right after work. The 30-60 minutes of fresh air really helps!
I know that we’re all practicing “social distancing”, but I actually felt more connected to people this week, and way more social. I feel like I have connected to more people virtually via Instagram and I even had a “social happy hour” with some friends earlier in the week. We had drinks and talked for about 2 hours. It was great. Next week we’re going to do a virtual dinner date (we’re having tacos)! I think that the more we can make an effort to stay connected, the stronger we will all be when all of this is over. I’m really making the effort to text/call/facetime people more than I have in the past. These are hard times but we will get through this.
…and because I think we could all use some humor after this week, I will leave you with this:
That’s it! I hope you had a great week 🙂
