Happy Sunday! I hope everyone had a great week. We’re finally free of our days long heatwave and the weather today is gorgeous – hooray!
Here’s how my workouts went this week.
Monday, August 9
Pre-Run Warm Up 8/14/19 – Matt (5 minutes)
Chris Cornell Run 8/6/21 – Adrian (30 minutes)
HIIT Run 9/19/19 – Jess (30 minutes)
Core Strength 2/28/20 – Matty (10 minutes)
Chest & Back Strength 5/1/21 – Erik (15 minutes)
Women of Rock Ride 3/5/20 – Emma (30 minutes)
Post-Ride Stretch 6/15/20 – Denis (5 minutes)
#Nevermissamonday!I decided to do my longer run for the week to get it out of the way. I really enjoyed both classes. The Chris Cornell run had a great rock playlist and a simple format – no hills or inclines and 3 chorus pick ups for each song. The HIIT run definitely got my heartrate up because of the faster runs and sprints – Jess decided to end the class with 8 sprints and I really can’t explain the puddle of sweat I was in after I finished. I also loved both of the strength classes. It was a great way to kick off the week!
Tuesday, August 10
Avenue of Giants Scenic Class (20 minutes)
Chicago Scenic Class (20 minutes)
Darwin Scenic Class (20 minutes)
Women of Country Ride 3/5/20 – Hannah C (45 minutes)
Post-Ride Stretch 8/9/21 – Olivia (5 minutes)
I started off my day with a 60 minute powerwalk which felt great after yesterday’s 60 minute run. The cycle class was a great way to flush out my legs. I originally didn’t plan on this stack of workouts but there was a last minute switch with one of my dad’s doctor’s appointments so I had to switch some workouts around. No problem as I was still able to get everything done before logging into work for the day.
Wednesday, August 11
Core Strength 8/1/21 – Matty (10 minutes)
Orangetheory Fitness – Endurance (45 minutes)
Warm Up Run 2/2/21 – Becs (5 minutes)
Intervals Run 7/15/19 – Jess (20 minutes)
Women of Pop Ride 3/8/20 – Ally (30 minutes)
The template for the OTF class was great, especially the treadmill portion. I have become a fan of the interval run classes on the days that I take an OTF class. It’s a great way to get in the extra mileage without pushing too hard. I have also enjoyed all of Matty’s core classes so far this week.
Thursday, August 12
Core Strength 7/20/20 – Matty (10 minutes)
Aretha Franklin Ride 8/11/21 – Robin (30 minutes)
Aretha Franklin Arms & Weights 8/11/21 – Robin (10 minutes)
Aretha Franklin Full Body Strength 8/9/21 – Jess (30 minutes)
Warm Up Run 1/26/21 – Matty (5 minutes)
Aretha Franklin Run 8/12/21 – Matty (30 minutes)
Post-Run Stretch 7/7/21 – Adrian (5 minutes)
I haven’t had an evening workout in a long time but this was the best option based on how my work day was laid out. I’ll also admit that it felt good to sleep in an extra hour as well. I enjoyed the Aretha Franklin classes. It was just what I needed since I wanted a fun stack of classes to tackle. I decided to take Matty’s class live for my 250th run class. I really enjoyed the class and I got a milestone shoutout so it was a win-win.
Friday, August 13
Orangetheory Fitness – Power/Endurance (60 minutes)
Recovery Run 7/15/19 – Jess (20 minutes)
BHM: Hip Hop Ride 2/7/21 – Ally (20 minutes)
Core Strength – Matty (10 minutes)
Aretha Franklin Yoga Flow 8/12/21 – Chelsea (30 minutes)
Friday the 13th is always a “fun” time at OTF. I used the term “fun” loosely, lol. It was a killer workout. It’s rare that the treadmill and floor sections are equally as hard. The recovery run was just what I needed after the insane OTF class and the Aretha Franklin yoga flow class was the perfect way to end my night.
Saturday, August 14
Aretha Franklin Ride 8/13/21 – Mayla (30 minutes)
Core Strength 7/10/21 – Rad (10 minutes)
Full Body Advanced Bootcamp 8/14/21 – Jess (60 minutes)
Post-Run Stretch 3/4/21 – Matt (5 minutes)
I haven’t done a class with Rad in a few weeks and this core class was so good that I bookmarked it to do again. Even though it was only 10 minutes long, the playlist was great and the moves he selected for the circuit were simple yet effective. The #Saturday60 bootcamp was wild. This was the hardest advanced bootcamp I’ve done with Jess and I’m still sore.
Sunday, August 15
Orangetheory Fitness – Endurance (45 minutes)
Core Strength 7/17/21 – Rad (10 minutes)
WHM Celebration Ride 3/10/20 – Jess K. (30 minutes)
HIIT Cardio 1/7/20 – Jess (10 minutes)
Country Yoga Flow 5/1/21 – Ross (30 minutes)
When I woke up my body was still kind of sore from yesterday’s bootcamp class but it’s starting to feel better now. Today’s OTF class had a huge run/row block which made me so happy! That’s my favorite structure for an endurance day workout but I haven’t done it in a few months. I’ll do the yoga class later on this afternoon. I’m not a fan of Country music but I enjoy Ross so I know he will make the class fun.
Total Weekly Mileage: 17.38 miles
Summary: 11 runs*, 7 cycle, 1 bootcamps, 2 yoga and 13 OTF/strength/HIIT classes.
*I include running from my OTF workouts, boot camp classes and stand alone runs.
Peloton Artist Series Classes Progress – 381/383
This week I felt like I was just trucking along with my workouts. I’m enjoying adding in one longer run a week to help with training for my upcoming virtual 10k’s. Right now I’m all about consistency vs. speed since I haven’t been doing any distance running all year.
On Thursday, Stamford re-instated the mask mandate for indoors and for any outdoor events of 100 or more people. This now means that OTF is back to mask required class. The classes have been mask optional for vaccinated members since mid-May. I have continued to wear my mask this entire time since the studio never required proof of vaccination. Sorry, but after seeing how selfish were throughout this pandemic, I don’t have faith in using the honor system. At this point I’m so used to working out in the mask (it’s been over a year) that it doesn’t bother me anymore.
…and now for this week’s memes
That’s it! I hope you had a great week 🙂
I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
In Case You Missed It
Tuesday Topics: Quick Workouts
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
While I wore a mask for a few runs last year, it never became standard for me. Glad that I work out at home!
I forgot to mention that one of my Peloton runs was a Cher run — which probably would have been good if I hadn’t had such a hard time with the treadmill!

I’m surprised that working out with a mask now feels second nature to me – actually it’s kind of sad!
Kimberly Hatting says
Great week, Kim!! I can only imagine how great those Aretha classes are, the soundtrack alone would be a.m.a.z.i.n.g. Glad to hear the humidity broke, up your way, as well 😉
kookyrunner says
Those classes were great and I think each instructor had ‘Respect’ on their playlist – how can you not want to work out to that song?!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Great week of workouts! I know what you mean about just not really trusting people. I never really stopped wearing my mask even for the brief period that we didn’t need to. I think most of us are just used to it now! Although I’ve never really worked out in a mask, and I think that would definitely take some getting used to.
kookyrunner says
Yup, that’s exactly how I felt. It kind of feels second nature to me now, which is kind of sad but it’s for the best at this point.
Deborah Brooks says
The Aretha classes were so good! I need to hit the rest of them. We are pretty much going back to masks at all indoors here too. Looks like an unpredictable fall again. Ugh! Hope you have a great week ahead!
kookyrunner says
I was so surprised by the Aretha classes. At first I thought that her songs might be a little too slow for workouts but I was totally wrong!
Michelle D. says
As always, thank you for the memes – I especially loved the Nancy Carrigan/Tonya Harding one!
Congrats on your 250th run and for getting a shoutout from Matty! I’ll be taking this run tomorrow so I’ll be listening for it 🙂
kookyrunner says
That meme spoke to me since any ideas I had about Fall plans are now extinct due to the Delta variant.
That’s cool! My shoutout was near the end of the class – I think during the last minute, lol.
Coco says
LOL on the romantic meme!
Congrats on your 250th run and getting that shout-out! I’ll have to remember to take that class when I’m able to run again and listen for it.
I’ve only done Robin’s Aretha ride — will have to work in the other classes.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! If I remember correctly, the shoutout is at the very end of class – I think the last minute, lol.
Jessie says
Congrats on 250 and how fun to get a shout-out!
I haven’t done much cardio in a mask, only barre and solidcore classes. Cardio is a bit toughter! Kudos to you for continuing to wear one even when not required. Same here!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Jessie! I found that the key to working out with a mask was finding the right mask and also using a cage insert since it allows for a little more airflow while wearing the mask.
Marcia says
Glad to hear its gotten a little cooler for you as well. The heat last week was a beast. That’ s amazing you’ve acclimated to working out in a mask! Well done!
kookyrunner says
I thought that doing all that running in a mask would help with my endurance but nope, lol.
Renée @runlaugheatpie says
good mix of running/peloton/ otf Kim! and I totally get still wearing a mask even if not required. This whole pandemic has made me basically trust almost no one, sadly. We have the delta variant here but of course no more mask mandate… I swear the government seems to only make decisions to please people, not to actually take care of us… so frustrating. I’m playing a daily game of “will I be able to go home and see my parents this year or not?” UGH.
love the memes! and of course you have to be of a “certain age”. to actually get the Tonya / Nancy one 😀
kookyrunner says
It’s just crazy because there’s no one way of doing things that works for everyone which makes me fear that we will be dealing with Covid for the next few years 🙁
Jenny says
Hee hee! Love your memes as usual. You are a total badass for doing the OTF workouts masked. I don’t know if I could do it… but I guess you can get used to anything.
Great week of workouts! I’m going to check out a couple of the classes you mentioned to get out of my Peloton rut.
kookyrunner says
The OTF workouts were hard at first with the mask but then they got a easier – the key was finding the right masks to use and a cage insert which allows for a little more airflow.
Let me know how you like the Peloton classes that you try out!
Wendy says
Haha, i saw that Nancy Kerrigan meme last week and it made me LOL. I’m still masking everywhere except in the pool and at CrossFit. Almost everyone in my pool running class is elderly and I’m pretty sure they are all vaccinated. The CrossFit people are pretty decent. I hope.
Nice week for you–congrats on 250! Also, what are the Chicago and Avenue of the Giants workouts? I assumed running, but curious how they work that theme into the class.
kookyrunner says
The Chicago and Avenue of Giants classes are scenic runs but I always do them as power walks so that I can take in all the scenery. It’s my version of a vacation for this year, LOL
Zenaida Arroyo says
Congrats on the 250th class and the shoutout! My goal is to get one form him too. How was the Chicago Scenic Class?
kookyrunner says
The Chicago class was good! It made me miss visiting the city since the class featured Grant Park.
