Happy Sunday! I hope that you all had a great week. Here in CT we experienced summer-like weather on Saturday. It was odd because it was over 70 degrees and then today we’re back to rain and more normal temperatures.
This week I dealt with a cold and really bad allergies. The majority of the week was pretty brutal. Although it got better as the week went on, I’m still not feeling 100%. I’m hoping that next week goes better.
Here’s how my workouts went this week:
Monday, April 8
Walking (60 minutes).
I felt pretty crappy on Monday and barely got through the work day. I still wanted to get in some type of exercise so I decided to go for a walk outside since the weather was pretty decent.
I also celebrated my first Medal Monday of the year – isn’t she a beauty?!
Tuesday, April 9
Spinning (30 minutes) + Strength Training (30 minutes).
Still felt crappy. I knew I couldn’t run because of the congestion in my chest, but I thought I could handle spinning and strength training. Luckily I was right.
Wednesday, April 10
Boot Camp (60 minutes).
I think this class felt 10x harder because I was still congested. I did what I could and still think that I got in a great workout.
Wednesday was also National Sibling Day. I will bless everyone with this awesome photo of my older sister and I from 1983 – hahahaha.
Thursday, April 11
Spinning (30 minutes) + Powerwalk w/ incline (30 minutes).
I attempted to run and that was a huge fail so I decided to do a spin classes and a power walk. The powerwalk was good because I did it on the treadmill so I could use the incline the whole time.
Friday, April 12
Rest Day!
Saturday, April 13
3 mile run.
I wanted to get in 6 miles but my body was like ‘nope’! Everything felt off – my legs were heavy, my breathing felt labored, my foot hurt, etc. I decided to call it at 3 miles and then walk back to my car. Also it was 100% humidity which was just plain awful.
Sunday, April 14
Spinning (60 minutes) + Strength Training (15 minutes)
I went to the gym for a spin class which was great because I was able to feed off the energy in the class to get in a good workout. My congestion is pretty much gone which made the class more enjoyable.
Total Weekly Mileage: 3 miles
Summary: 1 runs, 3 spinning classes and 3 strength training workouts
Grade This Week ā ?
One word to describe this week – Ugh! Just getting through each day was a challenge. I had the lovely combination of a cold and really bad allergies. Between my itchy/runny eyes, runny/stuffy nose and chest congestion, it was a hard week. I also felt like I couldn’t get enough sleep so I felt like a walking zombie for most of the week. Luckily I’m feeling way better now and my congestion is basically gone so I hope that means my energy will come back too.
I wasn’t sure what grade to give myself this week, but I was happy that I was able to get in a good amount of strength training. I think that the strength training mixed in with spinning was a good alternative or me since I wasn’t able to run. On the other hand, I have a half marathon in two weeks so I am a little worried that I only got in 3 miles the whole week. I’ll see how this week goes – hopefully I can get in a semi-longer run on Saturday (at least 8 miles).
On Saturday I noticed that my foot (the one with PF) was really bothering me. I hope that won’t be an issue for my upcoming race. Luckily after this race I don’t have any long distance races planned until the Chicago Marathon in October so that will give me a bit more time to hopefully fix the issues. I think that a big part of my pain has to do with my super tight calf muscle. I will continue to roll out my calf muscle daily and I hope that will work!
That’s it! I hope you had a great week š

It’s so not fair that as soon as it gets warm out, everyone has to deal with allergies! I hope things calm down for you soon. You could always come to Chicago–we’ve got 6 inches of snow on the ground. That’ll keep the allergies at bay! :p
kookyrunner says
Everyone always mentioned how pretty the flowers and trees are in the Spring and I hate that I can never enjoy either because of my allergies š
Becca | Rabbit Food Runner says
Wow so much swag from the Hot Chocolate race! Luckily my allergies haven;t been bad yet, but I know by May they will be (I think we just haven’t had enough warm weather here in Chicago yet to let the plants grow!). I hope next week is less Ugh for you š
kookyrunner says
The race series always has great swag!

Allergies came back w a vengeance this week here too. Everything is so beautiful and blooming and then there is the pollen everywhere. I try to use my blow dryer at night to get pollen out of my hair before getting in my bed. Not sure if it works but I am doing it! Hope you feel better this week. Thanks for linking up
kookyrunner says
That’s a really good tip about using the blow dryer – I think I will try that!
Zenaida Arroyo says
How are you liking that Beet Root Powder? What do you use it for?
Sorry to hear about your allergies. Do you take anything for them?
That is a cool medal.
kookyrunner says
I really like it so far but I will admit that it’s an acquired taste! I usually drink it before a workout for a little boost.
I take Zyrtec for my allergies but sometimes it doesn’t feel like it’s enough
Coco says
Sorry you had such a rough week, but you did great with spinning when you were able. Hopefully this week will be better. I do love that hot chocolate medal. That picture with your sister is priceless!
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I’m hoping this week will be better in terms of dealing with allergies.
Kimberly Hatting says
Oh, Dear KimTwin, I think we had similar weeks, at least regarding energy and nasal crap LOL I’m feeling better, so I hope that will be the case for you, too. That Hot Chocolate medal is pretty sweet (see what I did there?) š Hugs!!!! Thanks for linking with us š
kookyrunner says
I hate that we had similar weeks š but glad that you are feeling better.
Cari says
I give you a solid grade for the week because you listened to your body and did what you could without overdoing it for the sake of doing something.
Adorable siblings photo. Based on how old you look, guessing you and I are similar in age. I may be a year or two older.
Can we send allergies to Essos?
kookyrunner says
Yup I think we’re similar in age (I’m 36).
I would love to send allergies to a galaxy far far away.
Cari says
Yep super close. I’m 39
Jessie says
I feel lucky that I don’t deal with allergies, but I know this time of year can be really hard. i hope you get some relief!
So much fun swag for the Hot Chocolate run- so fun!
kookyrunner says
Yes! Be so thankful that you don’t deal with allergies. They are such a pain in the butt!
Marcia says
This sounds like a good week to have behind you. Ugh on the allergies. I was getting itchy eyes from all the tree pollen but then the winter storm took care of that. Ha!
kookyrunner says
Definitely a good week to have behind me! I’m really hoping that my allergies aren’t as bad this week.
Liz Dexter says
I hear you on the allergies – horrible, horrible. Seems extra bad this year; I think everything came out at the same time! I’d give you an A for effort but a something for not resting enough! But if you wanted to move, you had to move, I suppose! Hope next week is better!
kookyrunner says
They do seem extra bad this year for some reason! I’m hoping that this week goes much better.
RenƩe says
ah Kim, I’m so sorry you felt crappy this week!! UGH is right !!! allergies S U C K – there are no two ways about it!!
i hope your foot feels better with a bit of calf and foot stretching. We need to be strong and injury free for Chicago!!
I’m impressed you still did quite a lot for a rough week, even if the running was off. well done!
kookyrunner says
Thankfully it doesn’t seem like my allergies are going as haywire this week so I hope that continues!
I’m already getting worried about Chicago. If I can’t get this PF under control I might be in trouble š
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I have super tight calves. I stretch them pretty much daily, roll almost daily.
I’m sorry you were feeling so crappy. But you just got in the 15k, and you’re feeling better, so I think you’ll be fine for your half. I am so wiped when I have a cold — which is rare (I tend to get flu like stuff, not colds) — so it was important to get that rest.
Here’s to a much better week! And love the photo of you & your sister.
kookyrunner says
I usually get a cold every Winter so mine was just a little delayed this year, lol
Darlene says
Allergies suck. Hope you are feeling better.
I had a half on Sat. Holy unexpected heat wave…today back to the chill, wind and rain.
You did fine this week considering how you felt. Hope this week is better.
kookyrunner says
thank you – I’m feeling better today so I’m hopeful that the allergies wont be as bad this week.
Chaitali says
Glad the congestion was better by the end of the week! You had a really strong week in spite of it. I love that photo of you and your sister š We’re back to cold and rain today too. But I guess that’s part of Spring, with the allergies and ups and downs in the weather.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I laughed at the photo when she posted it on Facebook earlier this week.
We also have rain today – we actually had pretty bad thunderstorms very early this morning.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Allergies and a cold just seems so unfair!
That photo of you and your sister is just too sweet!
Hope this week is better for you!
kookyrunner says
It was pretty awful last week, lol. Thankfully this week is going much better.
Shathiso says
So sorry the cold didn’t get much better and the allergies came down like a tonne of bricks, uuggh! I would actually give you an A+ for effort because you really tried with those other workouts. I most likely would have stayed in bed all week. That medal is a beauty!
PS: I struggle with all the different States in the US, but I see you are in Connecticut! My sis-in-law (hubby’s sis) lives in New Haven.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much for the sweet words! Oh that’s awesome that you sis in law lives in New Haven! I am located in Stamford which is a bit further south in CT.
Jenn says
I hope your foot doesn’t bother you for your upcoming race either.
We just got a new vacuum, and I am fairly certain it’s going to alleviate a lot of allergy issues for the guys. It is working overtime on our rugs!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Jenn. I’m hoping that running will go better this week.
That’s a good tip on vacuuming more. I do vacuum about once a week but should probably do it more in the spring/summer.
Karen says
So sorry you’ve been sick – hope you feel better soon!! This weather needs to chill out for sure. I love the picture of you and your sister! So sweet!!
kookyrunner says
Awwe thanks so much Karen. I’m feeling way better this week, thank goodness!
Esther says
Girl, I give you an A for this week! Allergies have been terrible this year! I have only been able to breathe some days because of my essential oils!
You got out there and did what you could while still listening to your body!
Take care of that PF and get some rest when you need it!
<3
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Esther – I appreciate the support! š
