Happy Sunday! I hope that everyone had a good week, and thanks a lot for all the positive comments on my post last week. I wish I could say this week was better, but it wasn’t, and that’s okay. 2020 just keeps throwing me unexpected curveballs but there’s nothing I can do but adjust and deal with the situation.
Here’s how my workouts went this week:
Monday, September 21
Peloton Power Zone Ride 1/13/20 – Denis (45 minutes)
Peloton Afrobeats Run 9/15/20 – Jess (20 minutes)
#nevermissamonday! Started off the week with another Power Zone ride and followed that up with a 20 minute run. I enjoyed both classes.
Tuesday, September 22
Peloton Power Zone Endurance Ride 2/3/20 – Olivia (30 minutes)
Orangetheory Fitness – Strength (45 minutes)
At least once a week I’ll have to do an evening class at OTF. They usually have 2 early morning and 1 evening mask required classes. Now that my mom is back to working at the school, she can’t do the morning classes. We’re both more comfortable with the mask classes so our options are limited. I’ll be completely honest – I’d much rather workout in the morning and going to an OTF class at 6pm is hard because that’s usually my dinner time, but it is what is it for now. The class actually ended up being pretty good so that was a plus!
One great thing about Tuesday is that it was the official start of Fall, THE BEST SEASON EVER!
Wednesday, September 23
Orangetheory Fitness – Power (45 minutes)
Peloton Latin Heritage Month Celebration Run 9/22/20 – Jess (20 minutes)
My OTF class was a 3G which meant we had equal time on the rower, treadmill and floor. I like 3G workouts because you’re at each section for a shorter period of time so it allows me to push harder, especially on the treadmill. I did a short treadmill run when I came home which was a lot of fun because the playlist was all Latin music.
The rest of my day went to sh*t rather quickly, more on that later.
Thursday, September 24
Peloton J. Balvin Bootcamp 9/20/20 – Adrian (30 minutes)
Peloton Anitta Run 9/23/20 – Selena (20 minutes)
Peloton Anitta Ride 9/23/20 – Cody (30 minutes)
I really enjoyed these Latin themed classes in celebration of Latin Heritage Month!
Friday, September 25
Peloton Power Walk 8/12/20 – Jess (20 minutes)
Peloton Power Zone Endurance Ride 1/22/20 – Christine (45 minutes)
I wanted to do a lower impact workout (no running on strength training) since I knew I had the Dri Tri the next day.
Saturday, September 26
Orangetheory Fitness Dri Tri (50 minutes)
Peloton Gregory Porter Slow Flow Yoga 9/26/20 – Chelsea (30 mins)
The Dri Tri is a 2,000 meter row, 300 bodyweight exercises (40 push-ups, 40 bench tap squats, 60 bench hop overs, 40 burpees, 40 plank jacks and 80 alternating step ups) and a 5K run. This was the first outdoor Dri Tri and my studio did a fantastic job. They brought the rowers and benches from the studio so that we could do all the moves outside. For the 5K we ran in the park, but I messed this up and ran longer than I needed to. I’m so used to running the outer perimeter of the park so I totally missed the arrows they had set down on the ground for us and ended up running 3.5 miles instead of 3.1 miles. Oh well, I got some extra steps in and I still managed a 6 minute PR so I was super pumped about that. This week was pretty crappy so this was a nice unexpected win – I was proud of myself!
I did a yoga class before bed to help with some muscle soreness.
Sunday, September 27
Orangetheory Fitness – Power (45 minutes)
Peloton Keith Urban Yoga Flow 9/27/20 – Kristin (30 minutes)
In hindsight, I probably should have made today a rest day but I didn’t feel too sore after the Dri Tri so I decided to keep myself booked for the class. It was a pretty good class so I’m still glad that I went.
Total Weekly Mileage: 15 miles
Summary: 8 runs*, 4 cycle, 1 bootcamp, and 4 OTF/strength/HITT classes.
*I include running from my OTF workouts, boot camp classes and stand alone runs.
Peloton Artist Series Classes Progress – 144/146
Grade This Week ā A
This week I participated in the Womxn Run The Vote Relay which was a virtual relay from Atlanta, Georgia to Washington, DC. The goal was for each team to virtually cover the 680-mile journey, learn about Civil Rights historic sites and people, while also raising money for Black Voters Matter, an organization dedicated to increasing power in marginalized, predominantly Black communities. I loved that the event allowed us to run, walk, ride (or any 80 of the other activities) to count as miles for the relay. I was on #TeamDontBooVote with some pretty badass ladies. It was a great way to encourage myself to get in workouts when I was less than motivated this week.
As I mentioned earlier, my week pretty much went downhill after Wednesday afternoon. I was informed that my manager’s role was being eliminated due to restructuring within the company. She’ll still be working until late October, but this was a gut punch since it literally came out of nowhere. It was a complete shock to everyone. I still have my job and will be reporting into another member on my team, but I’ve worked for my company, and have had the same manager, for almost 10 years. We worked really, really well together and had a great relationship so I’m really sad that it will be over soon. On top of that, I just feel like my team has had A LOT of changes over the past 5 years. Once we get settled, it’s like the rug is pulled out from under us over and over again. Then later on that day the information came out about the Breonna Taylor case and I went from sad to completely enraged. I usually don’t drink during the week but I needed some wine that night. Thank you 2020 for continuing to be a complete dumpster fire.
In lighter news, I started watching Schitt’s Creek this week and I don’t know why I waited so long. It’s so ridiculous and makes me laugh every episode. This will be my new ‘binge watch’ show since I already finished the Home Edit show.
…and now for this week’s memes š
That’s it! I hope you had a great week š
Iām linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

LOL that last meme!!!!!!
I am so sorry about your manager being eliminated–I just saw a story on the news about people being fired or laid off via Zoom. I hope your company at least gave her the courtesy of meeting with her in person! And the whole Briona Taylor debucle? As you know I had my own punch to the gut this week. I AM DONE with 2020.
Thank goodness for running and fitness. Hang in there, my friend. Change is coming. It has to.
kookyrunner says
Nope – it was done over a video call I guess makes sense because everyone is located in different cities, but it still just sucks and I’m still pretty upset over it, even though it’s been a few days.
Sending you a virtual hug and tons of positive vibes!
Deborah Brooks says
I like the sound of that Dri Tri and I bet it’s so hard. Those burpees would do me in. Looks like you loved it too. Great variety in the workouts this week. Thanks for the laugh w the memes again makes my day!
kookyrunner says
I secretly love burpees so I had fun with those, lol. I really did enjoy the Dri Tri even though it was a lot of work!
Liz Dexter says
That Dri Tri sounds amazing, I could never envisage doing something like that. You are amazing.
And I’m so sorry about your manager, that’s awful and so unsettling, even more so in These Times. Regarding Breonna Taylor, does it help at all that people were livid about it over here, too? You are not alone there. It’s just horrendous.
Lots of love and care to you. I hope you can do something calming and lovely today to try to claw back some sense of stability however you can.
kookyrunner says
The Dri Tri sounds like a lot, but I try to think of each piece individually because it makes it’s easier to digest everything.
Thank you š I’ve been trying to take it a little easier this weekend before starting yet another work week.
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
High 5 you rocked your tri…with a little extra mileage;-) I’m sending you hugs for all the rest.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much – really appreciate it! š
Marcia says
I’m so sorry you’re losing your manager. It truly is the year that keeps on giving…all the worst things. Ugh. Great job on the Dri Tri. How great they were able to move it all outside. Chere’s to a better week ahead. I started watching the Home Edit! Yay!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Marcia, and I’m so glad you started watching the Home Edit. I hope you like it!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I’m so sorry about the shakeup with your manager, Kim. That sort of change is really hard, and I have to say through some personal experience, it usually comes out of the blue. š
In better news, congrats on your 6 minute PR in your Dri Tri! All those bodyweight exercises sound REALLY challenging! That’s truly awesome and shows how all your hard work has really paid off.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Judy. it’s just suck a crappy situation and I’m trying to “get over it” but I can’t seem to shake it.
I was so surprised with how the Dri Tri went yesterday but so happy with the results. I really needed something positive from the week and that was it!
Coco says
Ugh, so sorry about your manager. I know a lot of āwhite collarā jobs were spared the brunt of the pandemic so far, but I feel like the other shoe is about to drop when the immediate impact ripples through the rest of the economy. Sorry, was I supposed to be leaving an encouraging comment? š
Yay on the dry tri, and LOL on running your normal loop around the park. I totally can see myself doing the same thing.
I did the Aditti run ā the new AfroBeats run sounds fun āeven if it is with the *evil* with Jess Sims. š
Hereās to a better week.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Coco, and I agree with you that I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop. I already updated my resume earlier this week just in case..
I was so annoyed at myself for running extra distance for the Dri Tri. I had my music on and I was just in the zone and totally missed the arrow on the ground, lol. Oh well, that just means I should get another PR in March if I actually run the correct distance haha. The Afrobeats run was fun, and you know Jess has a way of making you feel great even when you want to curse her out, lol.
Jessie says
How cool you did the Oiselle relay! I love it. I didn’t get on a team quick enough, but I enjoyed seeing everyone’s posts.
Schitt’s Creek was my treadmill show this past winter š I still haven’t seen the final season though!
kookyrunner says
The Oiselle relay was a great motivator last week!
Kimberly Hatting says
Sorry to hear about your manager! That is shocking, and so sad (for all of you in your department). But, yay to Schitt$ Creek š We’ve been waiting (and waiting) for the final season to hit Netflix (it’s coming soon). The storyline is so crazy, but SOOOOO funny and well-written. I was happy to hear how well the dri tri went for you. Great job!!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Kim. The dri tri was an unexpected win which was much needed last week. I’m also happy I discovered Schitt’s Creek because it really makes me laugh š
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
So sorry about your manager and another rough week. Is 2020 over yet?
Great job with your Dri Tri!
Great memes once again:)
kookyrunner says
Thanks Lisa. I’m hoping that this week will be a little more lowkey and not as stressful!
Cari says
*Hugs*
I didn’t see your post from last week (yet, digging out), but I have a feeling what or who it was about. So sorry to hear about your manager’s position being eliminated. I hope your transition to reporting to someone else goes as well as possible
kookyrunner says
Thanks for the virtual hug Cari š
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Congrats again on your Dri Tri – I knew you would crush it!
I’m so sorry about your manager – sudden changes like that are so unsettling. I hope the transition for you and your team goes smoothly.
The Breonna Taylor verdict was just too much. I’m so damn tired at this point…2020 just needs to be over!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Michelle! Agreed – I’m so tired of 2020. I hate to wish away time but I’m ready for 2021.
Shathiso says
Gosh, what a week. So sorry about your manager. I can just imagine your heartbreak – on the work side the fact you’ve worked so well together for years but also on the personal side, that she’s lost her job at this already awful time. This year keeps throwing those curveballs. Not quite sure what we’re expected to feel from one moment to the next.
kookyrunner says
You described it so perfectly – professionally I’m sad because she was amazing to work for and personally I’m sad because this year has already been hard enough and now she has to go through job hunting.
Darlene says
What a week. So sorry about your manager. But congrats on your Drytri Pr.
I know what you mean about after work workouts. I run then but Iām so hungry.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Darlene. Here’s hoping that this week will be better.
Jenn says
Oh, I am so sorry to hear about your manager! I mean, when is it going to stop???
Great job with the dri-tri! And I’m so glad you are still able to take your mask classes. It’s just so hard to try to find some normalcy.
kookyrunner says
That’s a great question! I would be cool with no more surprises for the rest of the year. boring sounds great right about now!
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
Omg that Baby Yoda meme hahahaahahahahahaha! Also you’re totally killing it with the Peloton workouts! And yay for going back to OTF! I’m glad you have options that work for you and your mom!
kookyrunner says
The baby yoda meme literally made me laugh out loud!
Zenaida Arroyo says
That last meme is hilarious!!!
I am sorry about your week. Hugs to you Kim.
kookyrunner says
Thanks for the virtual hug! š
Zenaida Arroyo says
Glad you enjoyed the relay. I missed out on it and regret not signing up.
kookyrunner says
Hopefully they will do something similar soon.
Anne says
I’m so sorry your Wednesday was such a sucky, awful day.
Losing your manager in the midst of a global pandemic and overwhelming uncertainty is just hideous. Dealing with that on top of everything else is just… too much.
I swore at my phone when I learned the specifics of the Breonna Taylor decisions. I’m still swearing in my head every time I see a reference to it. I just… can’t even. I can’t.
kookyrunner says
September threw me a lot of curveballs so I’m hoping October goes a little better.
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Oh, that does sound like an awful day. The surprise of losing your manager would not sit well me either. Sending positive vibes!! Congrats on the Dri Tri. And, a PR with the extra distance? Well done! I was late to watch Schitts Creek too, and loved it!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Lisa! I’ll take all the positive vibes I can get š
I just started season 4 of Schitt’s Creek and it just keeps getting better!
