Happy Sunday!! We’re just days away from Thanksgiving. Can you believe it?! Holiday season is in full swing!
I apologize for the lack of blog posts this week. The last two months of the year are always crazy busy at work so it’s hard to balance work, exercise and blogging. To be honest, I also haven’t had too much to write about now that I’m not training for anything, but hopefully I can get back on track with blogging this week!
It’s been over a month since the Chicago Marathon and I feel like I’m on cruise control when it comes to my workouts. I am back to a good schedule and things are finally falling into place. I have been having some ongoing issues with my knees but other than that, my runs have been pretty solid. It was another great week of workouts – let’s discuss!
Monday 11/13
Kickboxing – 45 minutes.
This was a new class for me and I was pretty happy it was only 45 minutes and not an hour. That should give you an indication of how hard it was, LoL
Tuesday 11/14
4 mile run.
This run was a little rough since I did it after a long day at work, but I was happy once it was over.
Wednesday 11/15
Boot Camp class – 60 minutes.
We literally did hundreds of squats and my legs were screaming for help! But, I was happy that I finally got to wear my tank top that I purchased at the Chicago Marathon expo š
Thursday 11/16
6 mile run.
I think I also did 6 miles last Thursday too. Maybe that’s my magic number for Thursdays? I rolled out my muscles after the run and my quads were very appreciative!
Friday 11/17
A well earned rest day!
Saturday 11/18
7 mile run.
This was a cold run (28 degrees) but I actually felt pretty good during the run!
Sunday 11/12
Spinning class – 60 minutes.
I haven’t gone to a spinning class in over a month and I definitely felt out of shape during today’s class. Luckily I should be able to make the class on Sundays for the rest of the year.
Total Weekly Mileage: 17 miles
I’m super happy with all of my workouts this week. While I wish I could have squeezed in one more run, I think the quality of my runs were great. The 7 mile run on Saturday was cold, but I finally figured out how to dress for my cold weather runs. I’ve been over-dressing for the past few runs but I finally nailed down what I need to wear to stay warm, but not too hot. It’s definitely a process!
The kickboxing class that I took on Monday was hard but I think I’ll try to go back. I’m not sure if I’ll do it every Monday, but twice a month would be great. It’s a good mix of kickboxing moves and strength training.
I’m looking forward to running The Great Turkey Escape 5K on Thanksgiving morning. It’s the perfect way to get in a good sweat and have fun before the inevitable food coma that comes later on in the day š Are you running a turkey trot this year?
Iām linking up with Holly and Tricia for their Weekly Wrap.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Its nice to get into a routine when not training for anything! Looks like a great week of workouts with lots of variety.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Lisa! I was super happy with my workouts this week and hope I can keep the momentum going!
Kimberly Hatting says
Congrats on a great week! You kind of eluded to this…but you had three quality runs, that totally trumps 4 mediocre runs š I have a small, local turkey trot on Thursday morning!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Kim! You are so right – quality over quantity wins out for sure!
Deborah Brooks says
Kick boxing workouts are tough! I love doing mine every week as well. Looks like you are keeping up a pretty good base of miles. Have a great Thanksgiving week
kookyrunner says
Definitely! I haven’t done a kickboxing class in so long and it was rough! I’m trying to keep up a good base of miles so that transitioning to marathon training next year won’t be too bad, lol
Sonia says
Kickboxing and spinning are tough! I’m not doing a Turkey Trot this year because I need to get some longer mileage in and don’t want to split it up. Happy Thanksgiving!!
kookyrunner says
Agreed! Both classes totally kicked my butt this week!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Sounds like a really solid week to me. Dressing for cold is always hard! And we’re getting a lot of practice with it. š
I plan to run a Turkey Trot — even though I host!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much! It took a few runs to get it right but I finally nailed it, lol.
I hope that you enjoy your turkey trot!
Lesley says
I’ve done turkey trots, but none this year. I don’t know what’s in my parents’ neck of the woods, and we’re driving to my uncle’s house for the big meal.
kookyrunner says
I hope that you have an awesome Thanksgiving with your family!
HoHo Runs says
Congrats on nailing the cold weather gear. I always struggle with that. Our local turkey trot was this weekend. I wish they would have it on the actual day. It was be so fun to start the day with a race so I could eat guilt free! Happy Thanksgiving! Thanks for linking.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! It took a few runs but I finally got it! I like having a turkey trot on Thanksgiving because it makes me feel less guilt when I eat Thanksgiving dinner lol
Marcia says
For “cruise control” that’s one hella great week! I’m training for absolutely nothing right now and I love it. Still toying with a trot but leaning toward not since I’ve got turkey duties.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Marcia! I am enjoying not training, and cutting a run short if I need to, but it feels good to get settled back into working out 6 days a week!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
You had a great mix of workouts! Glad your runs were good – hopefully your knee issues stay away.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Michelle!
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
Great week of workouts. That boot camp sounds like a killer. I am not doing a turkey trot but plan to run on the treadmill while watching the Macy’s Day Parade.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! The boot camp class was definitely a killer! I love your plan to watch the Thanksgiving Day parade while on the treadmill.
Coco says
It looks like your “cruise control” is a solid plan for the off-season. I hope you can get your knee issues figured out and chased away!
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I started doing my PT exercises again so I’m hoping that will help.
Rachel says
It sounds like you had a really great week. I feel like I need some of your motivation sent my way…
kookyrunner says
I think it’s good that you are taking the right amount of time to rest and recover!
Clarinda says
Lots of variety this week. Great job! Kickboxing sounds super intense. Enjoy your turkey trot! I may join the local trail running group for a run Thurs morning, but it’s at 6AM, so I’m not committed yet. LOL
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Clarinda! I actually attended the kickboxing class again tonight and it was great.
Wow 6am run on Thanksgiving?! That’s so early!!
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
Sounds like you’re back on a pretty good schedule! It’s hard to write when you’re not training for anything. I’ve had the same issue since Savannah.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Montana – I do feel like I can maintain this schedule through the rest of the year!
Jenn says
Great week!
I do an annual 5K (it used to be a 6K, but they shortened it this year) for Thanksgiving. It’ just a great way to kick off the holiday.
Brrr on some of those temperatures! I am so impressed by how everyone just gets out there in the cold like that!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Jenn! I agree that a turkey trot is a great way to start off the holiday!
Katie @ Hungry Runner says
Great week of workouts!
So jealous of your planned turkey trot, no race for me on Thanksgiving day, but definitely a solo run in store š
Have a great holiday!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Katie! I’m excited for the turkey trot and I think it will be fun!
Nicole says
Yes! We have a family tradition to run a turkey trot in our town. Can’t wait! I’m excited that I should be able to run it – I wasn’t sure I’d still be running at this point in my pregnancy.
kookyrunner says
So much fun! I love starting off the day with a race/run š
Andrea says
Love kickboxing! Gotta mix things up to keep things interesting. Have fun at your Turkey Trot!
kookyrunner says
Definitely! I took it many years ago and loved it so it was time to go back š
Teresa says
I’d say that was a super great week of workouts especially for someone who isn’t in training. Heck, that’s a much better week than mine and I am in training. Lol!
That bootcamp class sounds like the last Bodypump class I went to a couple of weeks ago… we did well over 100 weighted squats and I could barely move the rest of the week. I’m too old for that kind of soreness!! Haha
Happy Thanksgiving Kim!
kookyrunner says
Oh those weighted squats are SO hard! But I know they are beneficial to make out legs stronger!
I hope you have a great Thanksgiving!
The Accidental Marathoner says
What a great week! I’m always on ‘cruise control’ by this time of year. I really need a winter or early spring race to keep me motivated. I usually run our local Turkey Trot, but I have to work this year so it’s a no-go for me.
kookyrunner says
Totally understand what you mean about needing a race for motivation!
vicki says
Great week of workouts! No Turkey Trot for me this year as we’ll be camping… but we’ll still be opting outside! Have a great holiday!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Vicki!
Michelle Rogers says
That is a fantastic week of workouts — great job!! I need to step mine up, been feeling a bit down and out lately. It’s probably the cold, gray weather which is not helping! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! š
kookyrunner says
Thanks Michelle! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family as well!
Angela says
Sounds like a great week! I have not done kickboxing in ages, but I used to love it!!
kookyrunner says
It was so great to get back at it this week.
Toni says
Looks like a great week! I love kickboxing! Happy Thanksgiving!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Toni. Same to you!
Karen Bayne says
Have fun Turkey trotting!
Spin class will be great for your running š

Thanks so much Karen!
