Happy Super Bowl Sunday! I’m actually not watching the game this year but I’m all about the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet š I mean seriously, is there anything cuter than puppies?! I know it may seem corny but it’s really super cute to watch!
It was another cold week (polar vortex anyone?) but luckily we are warming up next week. Actually on Tuesday it’s supposed be close to 60 degrees – this weather is so nuts!
I’m actually happy that January is over. It seemed like the longest month ever and I’m looking forward to February.
Here’s how my workouts went this week:
Monday, January 28
Powerwalk (30 minutes) + Y2K Spinning Class (30 minutes).
My stomach felt off for most of the day so I skipped my run. I still wanted to get in some exercise so opted for a power walk and spin class. This was my first time taking a power walk class on the Peloton app and it was harder than I thought it would be! Between the crazy inclines and speed, I was sweating!
Tuesday, January 29
2 mile run.
I went to an Orange Theory Fitness Happy Hour event after work so I squeezed in these miles when I got home. The event was a lot of fun and it was nice to meet some of the coaches and the owner.
Wednesday, January 30
Advanced Total Body Bootcamp (60 minutes).
Originally I planned on going to my weekly boot camp class at the gym, but then the “snow squall” hit my area which basically made it impossible to see. I actually made it home from work just in time to avoid it, but then I had no desire to go back out.
I still wanted to get in a boot camp class so I took this class from the Peloton app. I liked the way it was structured – 7 minute warm up, 8 minute incline run, 15 minutes upper body, 15 minutes internal run, 15 minutes lower body. So not only did I get in about 3 miles of running but my arms and legs got a good strength workout as well!
Thursday, January 31
3 mile run.
I was short on time so I knew this interval HIIT run would be the most bang for my buck!
This was also probably the coldest day of the week for us, but still nothing compared to Chicago!
Friday, February 1
REST DAY but I did a 10 minute stretching class to help my hips/leg.
I also added up all my miles for January – 61 miles. One of my goals this year is to run at least 50 miles a month. I know this will help with my overall goal of staying consistent in regards to my running this year.
Saturday, February 2
4 mile run.
Yup, nothing sexy about Winter running. The real feel was 1 degree when I left the house so I was all about the layers!
Sunday, February 3
Hip Hop Spinning (30 mins) + Powerwalking (30 mins).
I got in a quick workout so that I could enjoy the Puppy Bowl and snacks later on today.
Total Weekly Mileage: 12 miles
Summary: 4 runs, 2 spinning classes, 1 boot camp, 2 walking classes
Grade This Week ā B+
Overall not a bad week considering I haven’t feel 100% this week. On Monday my stomach just felt off so I had to skip my run and get in another workout. The rest of the week I felt congested, but I don’t have a cold. It’s just a weird feeling.
In funny news, this meme made me LOL super hard this week:
You’ll only understand this is you watched the FYRE Festival documentary on Netflix. This man was really willing to go above and beyond – that’s for sure, lol. If you haven’t watched this yet, you definitely should. What a train wreck!
That’s it for this week!
How did you deal with the extreme weather? Did January seem like a long month to you?
Iām linking up with Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap.

you kind of crushed it this week! I have to try some of the strength Peloton classes but I am kind of afraid š Enjoy the puppy bowl
kookyrunner says
Thanks! Definitely try some of the strength classes. Even though I’ve only done that one class so far, I was very impressed with it.
Cari says
Puppies!
My run yesterday was adjacent to a dog park, and all the puppies. Not a dog person but moments like that make me one. Crazy you had a 1 real feel yesterday. We were a balmy 11.
Nice OTF goodie bag – hearing ours finally opened and can’t wait
Hope your stomach didn’t linger
kookyrunner says
I don’t know if I could run by a dog park – I probably wouldn’t end up finishing my run, lol.
Jennifer @ Fit Nana says
January was ridiculously long. And I was busy so you would think that time would have flown by! But, nope. LONGEST. MONTH. EVER.
LOL at “still warmer than Chicago.” I seriously cannot believe how cold it got. My sister-in-law lives just outside Kansas City and she went outside for a brief moment with her 6 year old son on the super coldest day so they could watch a bubble freeze. She video’d it. It was pretty cool! Well, right up until Cayden went to pop it. It popped but it was already hardening so the blog just kinda sat there. lol
I would love to try Orange Theory but the closest place is just not really close. I’m better off just going to my gym. Thank goodness we have heat! Yes, I’ve been at a CrossFit gym where the owner was super stingy with the temperature control – as in, I had to wear gloves during the winter so my fingers didn’t get frostbite from holding the barbell. *sigh*
kookyrunner says
I saw a lot of really cool news stories that death with the weather this past week. It was kind of funny but then I was like wow, it really shouldn’t ever be that cold, lol
Wow to that Crossfit gym! You shouldn’t have to wear gloves to workout – that’s crazy. I understand trying to save money but you still need heat, lol.
Melissa says
What a great week!!! January was so long and the last week was SO COLD. I had to stay inside most of this week — actually ALL week. It was so cold here too but you did a great job!
kookyrunner says
I agree – the weather made the month feel so much longer!
Wendy says
I watched FYRE on Netflix and seriously, what that guy admitted to almost doing…come on man! LOL Funny that you posted it!
I totally enjoyed the WTF app this week. They were cracking me up! My favorite was : You are guaranteed to hate it outside or your money back. But we survived!
Have a great week!
kookyrunner says
In a way I feel bad for this guy because he will literally only be known for this for a long time, lol
.
Kimberly Hatting says
Yes, power walking ain’t for sissies LOL It’s a lot more intense than (most) runners give it credit for. We’ll be watching the Super Bowl, but more for the commercials than the game itself. I agree that January seemed longer than usual, especially the final 14 days of it!
kookyrunner says
I did two power walks this week and both were really, really good! It was a nice way to get my heart pumping while being a little easier on my joints, especially since I didn’t feel 100% this week.
Becca | Rabbit Food Runner says
The cold was insane this week! I’m loading up on vitamin C this week to get my body through the wild temperature swings without getting sick. I heard about that guy from the Fyre doc – I can’t believe how far he was willing to go!
kookyrunner says
That’s smart to load up on the Vitamin C this week. I’ve been taking Airborne since it seems like everyone in my family/at work is sick!
Marcia says
I’m so glad to be past the vortex! Wasn’t that Fyre Festival thing insane? I can’t believe so many people went along with that idiot. I’m all about the Puppy Bowl! I keep saying Ozzy would be a terror there!
kookyrunner says
Me too! Now let’s hope that the rest fo the winter is more “normal”!
That documentary had me shaking my head so much. The lengths they went to in order to deceive people was crazy!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
I watched the Kitten Bowl. There was a lot of laughing and “awwww”ing going on at my house! š
kookyrunner says
There’s nothing better than getting a bunch of kitten or puppies together!
Coco says
Our weather is nuts, thatās all you can say! Sweet OTF swag! I might check out a new studio opening closer to my house but I donāt want a new membership plan. We are watching the game. Itās crazy for whatās not happening !
kookyrunner says
I didn’t watch the game but did watch the “halftime show” (if that’s what you want to call it). What a mess!
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
Even though we aren’t as cold as you guys, I’m for sure tired of layering up in this polar vortex weather! I guess I’ll call it that too even though Florida’s lows have been in the low 30s. It’s still freaking freezing for those of us not used to weather under 50 degrees.
I get it on the being glad its February. I am too. January was just a blah month for me. I’m hoping February finds my running motivation and brings it back to me.
kookyrunner says
30s is very cold for Florida! It seems like it was just colder than usual everywhere – well except California lol
Liz Dexter says
I like January because it has my birthday, but I was mightily unamused that they announced Blue Monday, the most depressing day of the year, was on my actual birthday! Bah!
Love your wrapped-up pic – I did similar on Thursday and ooooh that was a cold run. Great work considering you were feeling off.
kookyrunner says
Oh no! I’ve actually never heard of Blue Monday before.
I’m happy that I won’t need to wear so many layer for my runs this week – we’re back to “normal” winter temps, lol
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I’m sorry you weren’t feeling well — I hope that you feel better this week. You still get in plenty of activity!
January has not been kind to us. The last 3 furkid losses were all in January. š
The weather has definitely been very schizoid the last few years! I’m betting on Phil though. š
kookyrunner says
Thanks Judy. I’m feeling better now and happy that it was a full out cold.
I also tend to agree with Phil. In Connecticut we have a groundhog too and he had the same result as Phil lol
Darlene says
Nice week of activity all things considered.
Hope the cold weather has left us for good. Iām tired of bubbling up in a zillion layers to run.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! Yeah I agree – I could do without wearing 3 layers to run outside!
Darlene says
Bubbling up lol
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
You had some great workouts! I had no idea the Peloton app offered so much.
I never miss the puppy bowl – just too much cuteness. And, of course, you know I was glued to the big game!!
I haven’t seen the Frye Festival documentary yet, but have heard so much I need to check it out.
kookyrunner says
The Peloton app really helped me get through January, especially when the weather was too cold or nasty to go to the gym!
The puppy bowl was the highlight of my day yesterday – is that bad? lol
Amy @ She Runs By Faith says
My husband and I just watched that FYRE documentary on Netflix!!! My gosh, what a flop! We didn’t watch the superbowl either but we totally would have tuned in to the puppy bowl! Now we know for next year š Great work this week, Kim!
kookyrunner says
That FYRE documentary had me shaking my head the whole time! The length that they went to in order to deceive people was crazy.
Yes, definitely watch the Puppy Bowl next year!
Chaitali says
I’ve had that weird congestion feeling last week too! I’m not sure what it’s about, maybe all the changing weather? You got a lot done even with feeling off š We watched the puppy bowl too, it was so adorable!
kookyrunner says
I think you’re right – the changing weather isn’t helping, and I feel like I’m surrounded by sick people at home and work!
The puppy bow was the highlight of my day yesterday lol.
Allie says
My kids were ALL about the puppy bowl and I was more than willing to indulge them. I was over the super bowl this year for SO many reasons.
And super happy the polar vortex seems to have passed us by for the time being and we’re feeling the whiplash of warm weather. I know it’s global warming but I have to admit, this feels good after negative temps and school cancelations all week last week!!
kookyrunner says
I actually haven’t watched any NFL games this year and my team (the Giants) weren’t in the Super Bowl so I saw no point in watching the game, lol. The Puppy Bowl was way better anyway!
The weather is a little crazy this week (it was 55 degrees here today!) and I’m glad we will have more “normal” winter temps this week!
The Accidental Marathoner says
That’s a great monthly mileage total! As you know the vortex hit us hard here in Chicago. I did a few treadmill runs, but with all of my travel, that was about it. I was in-flight during the Puppy Bowl and that OTHER Bowl, so I missed them both! I know of the FYRE debacle but have not yet watched the documentary. I’ve heard it is eye-opening!
kookyrunner says
Your travel the past few weeks has been so crazy! I hope that you have some non travel days coming in the future.
From what I heard from people that watched the game, you didn’t miss much! I heard it was SUPER boring.
Jenny Albertson says
January and February always seem so long to me! We haven’t had to cold of a winter here, thank heaven! But I’m over it and ready for spring.
kookyrunner says
You may get your wish as the groundhog predicted an early Spring! LoL
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Great job with all your workouts! I give you an A, especially since you worked out when you weren’t feeling the greatest!
Seems like the Peleton is amazing…I know you have the bike but didn’t realize you have the treadmill too, so cool!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Janelle! I’m feeling fine this week so I’m glad that it didn’t develop into a crazy cold.
I don’t have the Peloton treadmill (I wish!) but I just view the treadmill classes on my app. I try to mimic the speeds and inclines that they call out. It’s not perfect but I think it’s pretty close!
Hannah says
Power walking is tough – I try to blame it on my short legs but I’m pretty sure it’s also just tough, lol.
We’re getting a stretch of negative temps this week and apparently I’ve forgotten how to dress for them – I didn’t wear a balaclava this morning (just a hat) and my face was freezing after a 5 minute walk!
kookyrunner says
LOL! I also thought it was hard because I’m so short – haha.
Jen says
January felt like 75 days to me and then with the polar vortex on top of it! šš½
kookyrunner says
LOL totally 100% agree!
Jessie says
Love all the fun workouts Kim! You’re so self-motivated, it’s impressive š
I didn’t watch any of the super bowl but you can bet I still tuned in for a bit of the Puppy Bowl š
kookyrunner says
Thanks Jessie! Consistency is my theme for 2019 and so far I think I’m off to a good start.
Did Tilda watch the Puppy Bowl with you? It was so darn cute!
Shathiso says
“Your speed doesn’t matter. Forward is forward”. I love that – thanks for sharing! Sounds like a good week even if you weren’t feeling 100% and even with the crazy cold weather. I agree with Jessie’s comment – I find you so self-motivated and I’ve said this before, but I just love how varied your workouts are too.
kookyrunner says
You’re welcome! That quote really spoke to me and I thought others may appreciate it as well š
Thanks so much for the compliment – you’re too kind! I’m really trying to be consistent with my workouts this year so hopefully I’m off to a good start!
Jenn says
January was pretty much forever. Holy moly! I don’t know how you guys made it through – we were struggling hard here and it was nothing like what you were dealing with. Ugh!
I love that you are always able to get in so many varied workouts. All that cross training is so phenomenal and I really need to get better about that.
Puppy Bowl was, as always, adorable. Much better than the actual game, in my opinion.
kookyrunner says
The weather made January go on and on forever! Ugh – I’m so glad that month is over!
I feel like the Puppy Bowl should be more than once a year because it’s just that adorable.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I didn’t watch the Puppy Bowl this year, but have in the past. It’s adorable and I heard that they have a 100% adoption rate after the bowl. You didn’t miss anything by not watching the actual game…
Hope you’re having a great week!
kookyrunner says
Yup, they have a 100% adoption rate. Which is actually a good thing or else I would be calling and trying to figure out how I can adopt them all, lol
