Happy Sunday! Let me start off by answering the title of this post. Yes, I know it’s summer, which means it will be hot, but I really didn’t appreciate the heatwave in the Northeast this week! Actually I think it was pretty much super hot everywhere. Thankfully we got a huge break in the heat and humidity this weekend and I truly appreciated it!
The extreme heat meant that most of my exercise was done indoors this week, but I’m totally okay with that. As long as I’m getting in some type of movement, I’m happy! Although I don’t have much to report, here’s how my week went:
Monday, July 2 – Friday July 6
“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”
This was the motto for the week. I did a lot of what I like to call housewalking. It was too hot to walk outside so I did a lot of laps around the house, climbing stairs, etc. Sometimes I walked slowly on the treadmill with 5lb free weights so I could get in a good arm workout. Doing bicep curls and working my triceps while walking was also a great workout.
Saturday, July 7
4 mile walk.
It was a gorgeous day for a walk! While most of the crew ran their 4 miles I did a little power walking and had a great time. I even finished these 4 miles about 12 minutes faster than my 4 mile walk from the previous Saturday.
Sunday, July 8
Peloton Spinning Class (60 minutes).
I was a little hesitant on how my back would feel as this was my first “real” workout in 2 weeks. I took it slow and stayed in saddle for the ride and it felt okay. While I wish I could have pushed a little harder, I know it’s all about baby steps. I ended up with a good sweat and my heart rate was in the cardio zone the whole time so I’m calling that a win-win!

Grade This Week – A
Overall this was a good week! I’m still sore but I am able to bend down a little easier. I still have to be careful when I get up and down from sitting, but besides that I think recovery is going well besides two things. I’ve been having night sweats, but I read that this can be from the anesthesia. One solution is to drink more water so I’ve been focusing on that the past few days. I’ve also been having some pain in my right hand which I think might be from the IV that was inserted while I was in surgery. It’s fine during the day but at night it alternates between a numb feeling or a dull ache. I’m going to call the nurse practitioner tomorrow to get her thoughts on that as well. On the weight loss front, it looks my body got rid of all the water weight from the saline and whatever else they pumped into my body. I also got back on track with my eating so I’m back at my pre-New Orleans weight.
I don’t know when I’ll be able to get back to gym for my regular classes (boot camp, body works + abs, etc), but I’m hoping that I can start doing a run/walk this week. I have the RnR Chicago 5k/10k in 2 weeks so I’m hoping I can at least do a run/walk for both races. If I have to power walk both races it won’t be the worse thing in the world, but if it’s hot that weekend I am going to want to finish the race as quickly as possible, lol. Thankfully this was never a goal race so it’s more about having fun that whole weekend.
Did you have a good week? How did you deal with this week’s heatwave?
