Happy Sunday! Well week 8 of training is in the books and it’s less than a month to race day! This week went pretty well, let’s discuss!
Monday 4/17
Marathon Monday!! Congrats to all of the runners who ran the Boston Marathon. I didn’t run but I did take a Core Fusion Barre + Cardio class at Exhale Spa (thanks ClassPass)! It was intense and sweaty, but I really enjoyed it. The first half of the class was all cardio and then the second half was barre. I TOTALLY see why runners love Barre!
Tuesday 4/18
6 mile run. I rocked the Pro Compression mid socks for this run and they were great! I think these will be great for summer runs when it’s too hot to wear the over-the-calf socks.
Wednesday 4/19
30 minute HIIT workout. I had to attend an event after work so I couldn’t take my usual boot camp class. I grabbed a pair of 10 pound weights and knocked out a quick HIIT workout – bicep curls, burpees, push-ups, planks, jumping jacks, sit ups, lunges, squats, etc.
Thursday 4/20
5 mile run and I earned my boombox medal for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Tracks Virtual Run Series.
Friday 4/21
A much needed rest day! Allergies and workouts kicked my butt all week.
Saturday 4/22
I was a little nervous about this long run since it would be my first double digit run since the Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Half Marathon back in November. Overall the run was just okay. I didn’t have any issues with my allergies (probably because it was raining), which was great! The first two miles felt crappy, I just couldn’t get into a groove. Miles 3-8 were great, things were clicking and my pace was steady. My IT band started to act a little wonky during the last 2 miles so I ended the run in a little bit of pain. Despite some issues, all my miles were in the 10-11 minute range and I’m very happy about that. I’m hoping to be able to hold a 10:30 or less pace during the half marathon (fingers crossed).
Sunday 4/23
Body Works + Abs class (55 minutes) + 30 minutes recovery yoga from the Yoga for Runners DVD. I also used ALL of my foam rolling gadgets to help with my IT band. It’s still sore but feels a little better. I’ll keep my eye on it.
Total Weekly Miles – 21
Total Training Cycle Miles – 121.2
Grade – A+
Before I forget, I just want to give a huge congratulations to all the London Marathon runners! I’m going to enter the lottery to run the race next year. I know my chances are slim, but a girl can dream, right?!
This was a pretty good week. I was really worried about my long run but glad I was able to complete it. I also really enjoyed the Barre class I signed up for via ClassPass . If you’re interested in joining, click here and you can receive $30 off your first month! I hope that my IT band issue clears up soon. It’s such an annoying injury because even if I feel I’m doing everything right (foam rolling and PT exercises) it still tends to come back.
Next week is peak week – wish me luck!
How was your week? Are you training for a race? Let me know in the comments!
Iβm linking up with Holly and Tricia for their Weekly Wrap, the Jessβs, (Jess Runs Atlanta and Jess @ The Right Fits) for their training recaps and Courtney for her Training Recap Link Up!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Peak week can always be a bit nerve wracking, but it sounds like you’re doing a great job!
Good luck with the London lottery. Unless you count Montreal, I’ve never run in another country. Well, I did do a training run in Vancouver once, too. So only Canada. π
kookyrunner says
Peak week always makes me anxious! I’m just hoping that it goes well.
I am going to be running a race in Montreal in September and I’m looking forward to it! I would love to run London one day – I’ll probably have to enter the lottery a few times before getting accepted lol
Zenaida Arroyo says
London huh? Good luck with the lottery. I would love to run the marathon as well but it is hard because it does not work well with my work schedule. It will only if it falls during Spring Break.
kookyrunner says
Yeah I have heard it’s really difficult to get into that marathon, but a girl can dream, lol
HoHo Runs says
Great job this week. I hope that IT band is all calm now. I took a Barre class this winter. It kicked my booty. LOL. My allergy medicine doesn’t seem to be doing the job this spring. Someone told me I should switch it up after a couple of seasons. At this point, I’m hoping it’s almost over here anyway. Good luck with your peak week. Thanks for linking, Kim!
kookyrunner says
Barre class is so hard, but it definitely works so many muscles! I just purchased a new allergy medicine called Xyzal and will try it this week. Hopefully it works! I also picked up some nasal spray. Thanks for the well wishes on peak week – I’ll need it!
Meranda@Fairytalesandfitness says
Wow, that RNR medal is huge! They always do it up big with bling! Good luck with the London lottery!
kookyrunner says
Oh that’s not the bling, its just a photo of the boombox i tool from their website, lol. The medal should come in a few weeks π
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Another great week for you! I hope the IT band calms down.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Michelle! I sure hope it calms down too, its really not fun to deal with π
courtney @ eat pray run dc says
Great week! I’ll probably be entering the London lottery as well. I want to run all the marathon majors. I’ve done Chicago, Berlin is this fall and London next would be awesome!
kookyrunner says
Woo-hoo! Marcia is also entering the lottery so good luck to all three of us! So excited to follow your journey to the Berlin Marathon.
Coco says
Ugh, cranky ITBs are the worst – LOL at pulling out all the tools to tackle it though – hope you nip it in the bud!
kookyrunner says
Really hoping it settles down before my next run on Tuesday since it’s peak week!
Marcia says
Great week of training Kim! I’m going to be right there with you in that London lottery. Let’s hope lightning strikes twice and we both get in!
kookyrunner says
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for both of us!!
Kimberly Hatting says
I hope your IT behaves itself! I also did a 10-miler on Saturday π All the cool kids are doing it π
kookyrunner says
10 was the magic number this weekend π
Gina says
I’ve wanted to do a Barre class too, but I’m afraid I won’t walk for days if I do that. I think you’ll nail that half marathon! You’ve been doing great with your training.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Gina! Umm…well I could walk after my first class, but there was some pain involved, lol
Tricia@misssippipiddlin.com says
I hear so much about barre I do hope a gym in my area will offer it. I feel like we are the last to get everything!
I don’t think you can have too many or use too many recovery gadgets and you can’t have just one!
Will you do RnR Vegas this year? There may just be a holotta bloggers there π
Thanks for linking up with us Kim!
kookyrunner says
Barre is great! I don’t know how much often I’ll be able to do it, but I really have enjoyed it so far. So true – you can never have too many recovery tools, lol
I wish I could do Las Vegas again this year, but I’m planning on doing RnR Montreal in September and RnR San Antonio in December so I don’t think I’ll be able to swing Las Vegas in-between π I know that you will all have a blast though!
Shathiso says
Well done on another great week of training! And that Monday yellow top looks amazing, so bright and happy. Definitely put your name in for the London Lottery. What a great race that would be to run! Crossing fingers for you.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much! The top is from Old Navy π
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Now you’ve got me thinking about the London marathon….lol!
Great job this past week! I hope your IT band issues get resolved – making the time for recovery is so important! And I’m glad you enjoyed barre class! π
kookyrunner says
LOL..I’m all about YOLO! Plus the London Marathon looks like so much fun!
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner says
Great job getting in that first double digit run! The first one is always the hardest π
kookyrunner says
Thanks Deborah! My legs are still feeling it today!
Rachel says
Damn these IT bands, girl! What is our problem?!?
kookyrunner says
Ugh, girl I just don’t know π
Anna @ Pipers Run says
Nice workouts this week! I too, secretly would love to run the London Marathon! My husband is from England so it would be a fun family trip to do!
kookyrunner says
That’s so awesome that your hubby is from England – you should totally enter the lottery for the London Marathon!
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
What a great week! Way to rock that double digit long run!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Nicole!
Michelle Rogers says
Allergies have been kicking my butt too, big time! Still, I’m glad spring is here and I’m back to riding my bike! π
kookyrunner says
My allergies were surprisingly okay today, but I’ve been using a new allergy medicine. I hope that your allergies get better!
AmyC says
I used to go to Booty Barre class and loved it! Reading about your long run reminded me of when I was training for halfs. It always felt so good to find the groove on those long runs! Great week!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Amy! Booty Barre sounds really good!
Madhuri says
A girl can always dream… anytime and anything π Go get that London gal!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Madhuri!
Mary says
You had some nice variety this week. I hear ya on the IT band! You certainly have the nice collection of tools to keep after it. Maybe some nice heat on it, ice, or alternating the two, could be another thing to try.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Mary! I’ve been using all my tool and also icing it as well. I hope it’s good enough for me to get in a run today!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Great job with the workouts! How frustrating that your IT band is giving your problems. The London marathon would be amazing!
kookyrunner says
Yeah my IT band is really starting to annoy me, but I’m gonna keep pressing on!
Mary Beth Jackson says
Congrats on that long run! Whenever the number gets in the double digits I get a wee bit nervous! I think that class pass is so cool- I would love the opportunity to try all the different classes- we don’t have that here. #jealous
kookyrunner says
Hopefully class pass will come to your city soon!
Teresa says
Great week of training! You should definitely enter the lottery …one thing is for sure, you will never get in if you don’t try! and isn’t that what all runners are …dreamers!?! Good luck with the Brooklyn half and the lottery! π
kookyrunner says
Exactly! I have to at least try to enter the lottery π
Elaine @myRUNexperiment says
I haven’t delved into International races yet but London would be FUN! Plus it’s one of the World Marathon Majors and I’d love to run all of them.
Hope your IT band issues clear up soon and doesn’t interfere with your upcoming race.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Elaine – it feels a little better today and I’m going to try to get in a run after work
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
You did an incredible job last week. Here’s to maintaining sub 10:30 pace on race day!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Kathryn – I sure hope so! It wouldn’t be a PR for me, but it would be a course PR!
TJ@tjtellsit says
Nice work! Running in the rain or right after is fun during allergy time. It helps remind of the times when the invisible pollen is not attacking! Good luck with the lottery!
kookyrunner says
Yes that invisible pollen is a killer! Thanks for the well wishes! π
Jessie says
Ugh, that darn IT band! I hope it doesn’t become an issue π
You have the cutest fitness apparel π Love your style!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Jessie! It’s feeling better today so there’s hope!
I get most of my workout gear from Old Navy and occassionally Walmart and Target, lol
