Disclaimer: I received a free Handana product for this review but all opinions are my own!
For the past few months I’ve seen so many people on Instagram talking about how much they love their Handana. Since it was bitterly cold here during the winter, I didn’t give it much thought but knew that I would like to try it during the warmer months. Once winter was over (finally!) I reached out to Katie, creator of Handana, to ask if I could try out the product. She was nice enough to send me one to try over the past month, in addition to provide one for a reader (giveaway details below).
Katie is the creator of this product. Katie is an amazing person and also a Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) survivor. She had a bad reaction to a medication which cause her to get SJS. Stevens-Johnson Syndrome is a severe allergic drug reaction that can cause painful blistering on the skin. The scars left over from SJS can cause the skin, especially around the eyes, to be very sensitive to sweat. Katie is a runner and needed a solution to keep sweat away from her eyes. She started by wrapping a bandanna around her hand to use to wipe the sweat away, Another runner commented on this great idea and that’s how Handana was born! You can learn more about Katie and her story by watching the video here.
What is Handana?
According to their website, “Handana is a better way to beat the sweat”. The Handana slips on just like a glove (easy-peasy!) and comes in all different sizes for children and adults. Handana products are made in the U.S.A. and have been on the market since 2012. Their wristbands are made of soft, durable, SupplexTM LyrcaYM fabric and can be easily washed in cold water (but air dry). They also come in tons of cool colors!

- Running – With the increase in temperatures lately, I have used my Handana on all my outdoor runs and races. It just feels more sanitary than lifting my shirt up to wipe away sweat!
Right before the finish line at the Brooklyn Half Marathon. My Handana helped with the humidity and rain! |
Right before going on a treadmill run! |
- Walking – Sometimes you just need a good walk on a recovery day. Handana helped wick away the sweat on those runs as well
- Spinning – I teach spinning classes twice a week. The classes are 60 minutes long so its a very high intensity, sweaty workout. Lately the air conditioning int he room hasn’t been the best so the Handana came in ‘handy’ (see what I did there? haha) on more than one occasion.
- Yoga – I never knew I could sweat so much during yoga!

This sounds awesome! I sweat a lot so I need something like this. Right now I just wipe it off with my hands onto my clothes, but I hate how gross I feel doing that. This is a way better option!

Usually I go with a Buff, or a backwards hat. This looks like a cool alternative though!

I usually wear a hat outdoors but indoors on the treadmill this would be more convenient to try instead of having to grab a towel. Would love to try it!

I actually have a handana and I love it, but it's gotten discolored from my sweat lol. I also use a frogg togg towel that I carry when it's really hot outside.

Always good to have more than one – Good Luck!

I've been using a Handana for months now, but I teach so many classes and run so much that I'm wearing it out! Lately I've had to go back to using a towel during fitness classes, which takes me out of my rhythm sometimes…

Same here! I only have one so I need to buy more 🙂

I use my shirt 🙁

Nothing wrong with that! Sometimes you have to do what you have to do!

I usually just use my hand which I wipe on my pants. That sounds so gross!

I received a handana for a review a while ago and really like it! I will definitely be breaking it out during these warm summer months when I'm marathon training 🙂

I usually wear a bondi band, but if I'm sweating a lot, I have to lift my shirt up.
