Today I’m linking up for Friday Five 2.0 with Rachel from Running on Happy and Lacey and Meranda from Fairytales and Fitness. Today’s topic is all about dream vacations, but I’m changing that a little bit and focusing on my five dream racecations.
I’m a HUGE fan of racecations. At this point I think a normal vacation may be a little boring for me. I’m always happy to explore a new destination by foot, specifically by running through the city 🙂 Last year I was lucky enough to take racecations to San Diego, Chicago, Philadelphia and Las Vegas, but I still have a few more on my bucket list!
I simply love Puerto Rico – the food, the culture, the architecture…pretty much everything. I’ve only been to San Juan and Old San Juan, so I would love to explore more of the area. The race starts pretty early (6am), so there is plenty of time to enjoy the after party after the race and also to explore more of the island. I’m hoping I can do this race in 2018.
I know a few runners that have done this race and they all loved it! I’ve heard that the half-marathon route is SO pretty. I’ve always wanted to visit Seattle after watching The Real World season that took place there back in 1998 (yup, I’m showing my age here, lol). While there I would love to visit the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, the original Starbucks and a few other places. I am *hoping* to do the race this year if the airfare ever goes down! #travelonabudget
Who wouldn’t ran to run and explore London? I was there for work about 2 years ago and it’s such a big city with lots to do. I didn’t get to explore it too much because I was there working on a few things, so I would love to go back! It’s pretty difficult to get into this race through the lottery, but I will enter the lottery one day.
4. St. Jude Memphis Half Marathon
I’m very passionate about St. Jude Children’s hospital and all the work that they do for children affected by cancer. I would love nothing more than to fundraise for this race and help donate more money to the hospital. On top of that, I’d love to go sightseeing in Memphis. That’s a town with a lot of character!
I would love to do a racecation in Canada, and this is the perfect race for that. It’s a SUPER hard race to get into because it’s so popular (much like the Brooklyn Half), but from what I’ve heard it’s totally worth it! It’s pretty much a weekend full of fun, events, yoga and running. I’d like to try to get to this race sometime in the next 2 years if possible.
Do you have any dream racecations?
Mary Beth Jackson says
What a fabulous list! I would love to join you at any of these! I did run in PR- and that was beautiful! London would be a gas!
kookyrunner says
That’s so awesome that you ran in PR!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
Oh yes…PR!!! And Seawheeze would be awesome. Actually, all of them sound wonderful.
kookyrunner says
I think those are the top two on my list!
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner says
I would love to do the SeaWheaze half sometime as well! Always looks like a blast. I do love PR but I bet it would be super hot and humid.fun list!
kookyrunner says
You definitely have a point about PR! I think I would definitely run that race at a “sexypace” so that I could enjoy the run and see all the sights!
Marcia says
SeaWheeze is always closed by the time I even think to try to get in. That would be awesome. Vancouver is a lovely running city…as is Seattle…and while you’re in that part of the country, just shoot up to Alaska! Truly I am incurable.
kookyrunner says
Yeah it sells out SO fast – I didn’t even attempt to register for it this year.
I like the way you think – if I’m going to the West Coast anyway I might as well pile on a ton of different adventures!
Jamie says
I bet London would be so cool to experience. It’s beautiful there already, but to race there? I might have to add that one to my bucket list.
kookyrunner says
Yeah it’s a great city with lots to see and lots to do!
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
Running a race in Puerto Rico sounds like a great idea for a racecation. Really, anyplace tropical is a good idea in my book.
kookyrunner says
I totally agree. i think the Bahamas would be great too
Marsha says
I want to do a Disney race! I’ve done a half marathon in Kauai. That was pretty awesome 😉
kookyrunner says
That half marathon in Kauai sounds amazing!
Rachel says
Awesome list. SeaWheeze is on my racecation list, too. It’s so beautiful! I’m not sure I could handle racing in PR or anywhere overseas. I get enough travel anxiety and pre-race anxiety as it is!
kookyrunner says
I say we try for SeaWheeze in 2018!
MCM Mama Runs says
I’ve heard great things about most of these races. And Puerto Rico? Yes, please!
kookyrunner says
For the Puerto Rico race I just picture having a pina colada at the finish line!
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
I never heard of the SeaWheeze half marathon. It sounds like it would be a great race with all the those events taking place throughout the weekend. What month is it?
kookyrunner says
I takes place in August. I agree, it would be really fun because its a weekend full of activities!
Kimberly Hatting says
These all sound amazing! I have a huge list of races I want to do…too many to list LOL hat said, Rim to Rim to Rim (Grand Canyon) sounds like an exciting adventure 😉
kookyrunner says
Rim to Rim sounds amazing and I bet the sights are breathtaking!
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
LONDON! YES! I really want to do Disney’s Wine & Dine and this marathon in Bordeaux, France where you can drink wine at every water station! haha
kookyrunner says
Umm that marathon in France that provides win sounds amazing!!
Farrah says
I’ve never been to Puerto Rico but I’d love to go someday! I’d never say no to an excuse to go to Seattle again either–it’s so much fun there! 😀
kookyrunner says
I’ve heard nothing negative about Seattle so I know I have to make that racecation happen!
Anna @ Pipers Run says
I’d love to do London so that we could see my husband’s family and Sea Wheeze since it’s on the West coast and I’m on the East coast of Canada.
kookyrunner says
London would be a perfect racecation for you – you get to run, explore London and see family!
Jenn says
I am really intrigued by Seawheeze. And I would absolutely love to go to Seattle. We’re working on it, for sure.
kookyrunner says
Logistically I think Seawheeze will be the most difficult for me to get to, but I hear it’s so worth it!
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
I have never been to Puerto Rico, but I am loving reading all these Friday 5 Dream Race/Vacation posts! It’s giving me lots of ideas of places I want to go!
kookyrunner says
I’ve added a few locations to my list based on all the Friday 5 posts I have read as well!
Reca says
This is an amazing list of races. I know I’ve seen races that look like they would be fun to run and I have to start making a list to make them happen.,
kookyrunner says
There are definitely so many great places to run hat are bucket list worthy!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Yes to PR!
kookyrunner says
I’m really looking forward to running there one day

kookyrunner says

Jen @ SprinklesHikes says
I’d love to do the Honolulu Marathon because, HELLO! HAWAII!
kookyrunner says
Me too! Now I just need a second and third job to afford the trip, LOL
Abby @BackatSquareZero says
So fun-
If I had unlimited funds I would do my own version of the marathon majors.
We have NYC.
We are getting Chicago in 2017.
I’d do London, Tokyo, and Berlin too.
Then since I’ll never BQ I’ll go up and run the city and cheer on the marathoners.
kookyrunner says
That actually sounds amazing! I wish I could travel internationally for races
