I can’t believe that it’s already time for the Weekly Wrap. I feel like the weekend went by in the blink of an eye. We also had the weirdest weather this weekend – 70 degrees and sunny on Saturday and 40 degrees and cold, rainy and windy today. All I can do it laugh because it’s so absurd. But on the flip side, at least we don’t have snow like Chicago and Minneapolis!
Weather aside, this week was pretty good. Let’s discuss!
Monday 4/9
4 mile run + 50 tricep dips.
Still loving my new sneakers š
Tuesday 4/10
Body Works + Abs Class (45 mins) and 50 push-ups.
Holy smokes! My arms felt like jelly after this class.
Also received my StrideBox for April. I was really impressed by all the products in the box, especially the Birthday Cake flavored GU. I don’t normally use GU, but I really want to try this flavor!
Wednesday 4/11
Boot Camp Class (60 mins) + 50 jump squats.
Doing strength training on back-to-back days is pretty hard but I’m determined to stick with it to get stronger.
Thursday 4/12
4 mile run + 60 tricep dips.
This run felt great, probably because I had a few days off from running.
Friday 4/13
3 mile run + a quick 10 minute strength training workout (including 60 push-ups).
Another run that felt awesome. 2 days in a row of good runs? That’s unheard of for me!
It was also a great mail day as I received my latest order of Pro Compression socks!
Saturday 4/14
7 mile run + 60 jump squats.
Well I guess the streak of good runs had to come to an end š This run flat out SUCKED. My allergies were on level 100 and it was my first run outside in the warmer weather. It was just a miserable run from start to finish. I was supposed to run 9 miles but obviously that didn’t happen. When I ran by my car just as my watch hit 7 miles I decided to call it a day.
Sunday 4/15
Body Works + Abs class (45 minutes) + Spinning (45 mins).
Although it’s hard doing these back-to-back classes with no rest in-between, I know that it will make me stronger so I’m going to stick with it.
Total Weekly Mileage: 18
Total Training Cycle Miles ā 51.5
Grade ā A+
Even though I had to cut my long run short on Saturday, I’m happy with my workouts this week. I was able to get in a ton of strength training and still run 4 times. Although I am training for the Cleveland Half Marathon, I’m not training for a PR. I’m so NOT in PR shape at all right now. I’m getting in my training runs so that I can finish the race strong and injury free – does that make sense? I know that most runners train for a PR, but that’s not where my focus is right now.
You’ll see that I didn’t have any rest days this week, which is probably why I feel like I could take a nap right now, haha. Usually Friday are my rest days, but because I didn’t do a run on Tuesday or Wednesday, I had to move it to Friday.
On Tuesday I started my Invisalign treatment, so my mouth was pretty sore on Tuesday/Wednesday (and I had a headache on Tuesday). I mustered up energy to take classes on both those days, but just didn’t feel like running. If you’re not familiar with Invisalign, it’s basically clear removable aligners that you wear to help gradually straighten your teeth. I had braces as a kid and I really didn’t want to go through all that pain again, so Invisalign was a great option for me. I’ll have to wear these aligners for about 12-18 months (you wear a new set of aligners every 2 weeks). Besides the first 2-3 days, it’s been good. The only annoying thing is that you have to wear the aligners 22 hours a day and remove the them anytime you want to eat or drink (anything besides water). One positive is that this has cut down on my snacking dramatically!
Looking ahead to next week, I’m super excited to watch the Boston Marathon tomorrow and virtually cheer on everyone I know that is running the race. The weather looks crappy, but I’m hoping that the rain won’t be as bad as predicted! Good Luck to all of the Boston runners!
How have you been dealing with the wacky weather? Will you be watching the Boston Marathon?
Iām linking up with Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap.

Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
The weather was so crazy this weekend! I think alot of runners struggled on Saturday. Its hard to run in the heat without any time adjust!
kookyrunner says
Definitely! And I hate running in the heat anyway so there will definitely be an adjustment period, that’s for sure!
Sara says
I know that most runners train for PR’s but I’m at a point right now where I just can’t fit it in. So I feel ya! Great job getting as many workouts in as you did. Going straight from marathon training in to half training is no joke either. Have a great week!
kookyrunner says
glad that you can relate to training, but not for a PR. I thought I was the only one, lol.
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
This week flew by for me as well and I was so exhausted all week! Super cute shoes btw. Great job on the back to back classes those are tough but do make you stronger. Have a great week!
kookyrunner says
Same! I am still kind of tired today even though I went to bed pretty early last night!
Teresa says
Weather is crazy everywhere!! I’ve said it before ..I believe someone has seriously pissed off Mother Nature this year …I really wish they would apologize. Lol
I’m with you on the strength training …hard to keep it up but I feel so much better when I do. I also am not training, and probably never will, for any PR’s… at this point in my life I just want to keep running injury free!
Stridebox has been the bomb lately!! Can’t wait to try that birthday cake Gu!
kookyrunner says
Oh I totally agree – someone really pissed off Mother Nature, that’s for sure!
Wendy says
I had a sucky run today and it made me mad!!! Here’s hoping that the 2 of us have much better long runs next weekend.
kookyrunner says
I sure hope so!
Coco says
I really hope there’s a break in the weather for Boston tomorrow! You had a solid week – despite the struggle on Saturday. I love tulips – I haven’t noticed any around here yet, although the daffodils are out.
kookyrunner says
I am sending so many positive thoughts to the Boston Marathon runners today – this weather is just awful!
Kimberly Hatting says
Your Saturday/Sunday weather sounds a lot like our was for Thursday/Friday (which morphed into a nasty Saturday). I’ll be curious to hear how the Invisalign works for you…that’s something I have considered myself. All three of our kids did the braces, and I just cannot do that to myself (ha!).
kookyrunner says
Invisalign is okay so far. I’m not gonna lie – it’s definitely not pain-free but I still think that the pain is less than it would be with traditional braces.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
You had a great week! Sorry Saturday’s run was a struggle – I had the same issue š Great to hear that your new shoes are still working for you! Have a great week!
kookyrunner says
Saturday was just a crappy day! I know multiple runners that had a hard time with their long runs that day.
fairytales and fitness says
I recently saw that Birthday cake flavored GU in my Women’s Running Magazine and I REALLY WANT to try it! I wonder where I can buy a pack without having to order an entire case from GU? -M
kookyrunner says
Marcia found it at a local running store!
Marcia says
I went to a local running store special to score some of that BDcake GU! Now I’m a little ticked I’m not yet running long enough to try it. I’m totally pumped for Boston but yeah, I wish they’d have better weather. Yikes.
kookyrunner says
So cool that your local running store had it! Hopefully you’ll get to try it out in the near future once you get back to long runs.
Jessie says
Always love your recaps! Interesting about Invisalign…22 hours seems like a lot. I guess I would assume I’m eating more than 2 hours out of the day, but I guess I don’t really know! Hope they work quickly, though you already have a great smile!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Jessie! 22 hours did seem like a lot when I first started, but it’s actually okay because I can usually finish my meal in 30 minutes or less.
My smile wasn’t horrible, but there were a few things I wanted to get corrected so I’m hoping the Invisalign will fix it all š
Laurie says
I am soooo ready for spring. Tired of running in the cold wind. Anyhoo…I love your socks from your Monday workout! Looks like you had a good week.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Laurie! With the weather I think we’re going to go straight from winter to summer lol
Jessica @ I Am Teacher Fit says
A quick 10 minutes featuring 60 push ups? You go! I think it would take me longer than that to knock out 60 push ups! Also–love your leggings! I have the same ones! š
kookyrunner says
I break up the push-ups into 6 sets of 10 each so it makes them go by a little bit faster, lol
Sarah @ merrillthon says
Great week of workouts Kim – I am super impressed with all your push-ups. I’m looking forward to the marathon tomorrow, i hope it’s a quiet morning at work so I can keep an eye on the race.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Sarah! The push-ups are rough but they are getting a little easier and the month goes on.
Shathiso says
Can I just say I think you have the coolest compression socks! I was actually thinking that before I even got down to the part about your mail order of compression socks arriving! An all round great week of workouts for you. I totally hear you about not looking for a PR but looking to run strong. That’s how I am feeling about my first Half. Technically as it’s my first I will have a PR no matter what, but before I had set my heart on a specific time – and now I am actually just looking to run a good strong happy race without the time factor hanging over my head.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much! I’ve been building up my compression sock collection for a few years, lol.
So smart to not have a specific time goal in mind for your first half marathon. It’s going to be an amazing experience and you should enjoy every minute of it!
Becca | Rabbit Food Runner says
I liked this month’s box too – the ProBar looks great! Good mileage for the week, even with the shorter run. I’m currently watching the marathon preview on TV and will head to the course to cheer in a few hours.
kookyrunner says
Yes, I’m looking forward to trying those on a long run! Have so much fun cheering on the course!
Anna @ Pipers Run says
That box is filled with lots of great stuff! Hope your teeth/head feel better. My coworker has those and is going through the same thing. It stops her from eating snacks all the time.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Anna. Feeling better everyday, but yes, they definitely stop me snacking and I miss it, lol
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Great job with your workouts! Doing all that strength work with no rest will definitely bring on some DOMS, but I think you’ll definitely see the benefits in your training!
Now I need to check out my Stridebox that came in the mail. That Gu does sound tempting!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Janelle! Yup, DOMS is in full effect today, lol
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
I don’t always train for PR’s. I’m not intending to PR the Peachtree Race. The next PR I’m hoping for is the marathon so that’ll be intense summer training and stuff, but I’m taking it “easy” until then.
kookyrunner says
That sounds like a great plan to me! I’m sure you’ll get that marathon PR.
Chaitali says
Yay for the two good runs in a row but that sucks about the allergies making the next run so hard. It seems like the quick warm up is making allergy season hit hard.
kookyrunner says
Yup, I think that’s exactly the problem. We went from cold to warm weather so quickly that my allergies were like what’s going on? LOL
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
You just reminded me that I still need to open my new Stride Box. I hope that I too got a sample of the new birthday cake Gu. What a delicious, and dangerous, flavor!
kookyrunner says
I think that you will like this month’s Stridebox!
Jenn says
I’ll be curious to see how you like your Invisalign!
I didn’t get to watch the Marathon, but I saw the Twitter feed. That counts, right?
The weather has been a mess here. I don’t even know what’s happening anymore, but it needs to stop.
Glad you are still loving your shoes! That helps so much!
kookyrunner says
It’s getting a little better now that my teeth are more used to the aligner tray. I switch trays every 2 weeks so hopefully they next tray won’t be so bad.
Lesley says
I hope you’re feeling better after the invisalign. I remember when I got my braces, I was in a lot of discomfort the whole weekend.
kookyrunner says
It’s getting a little better each day. I hear that the first tray is the hardest so I hope my other trays aren’t as uncomfortable.
Denise @ runheartfit says
I don’t always shoot for a PR. Sometimes finishing strong and injury free is just as important.
Have you ever tried the edamame spaghetti? I hear it is real good. I have yet to try it.
Sorry you had a sucky run, we’ve all been there. Maybe a rest day is what you need. It looks like you had some great workouts though.
kookyrunner says
Agreed! Sometimes just actually enjoying the race, no matter what the pace, is super important!
I have not tried the edamame spaghetti yet but I hope to try to very soon!
Andrea says
Sorry the run was such a disappointment, but yay for more socks! I love the pair in your first photo! I hope this weather levels out for all of us soon. It’s been crazy!
kookyrunner says
New socks always make me feel better!
Catherine says
I love how dedicated you are to your strength training! I’m thinking ahead to what I want to do next and whatever it is, I want to carve out time for strength as well as running.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Catherine! A lot of time, I prefer strength training to running, lol
Chris Brown says
Kim – I saw the RECAP in your headline and I thought to myself – what?! did I miss the race!? Ha ha.
I’ve been struggling with the training for CLE with all this weather too and now am really excited for the sun and warmth. Hoping I don’t over do!
Love your graphic about “captain of the struggle bus” ha ha!
Chris
kookyrunner says
LOL, nope didn’t miss it – just a little under a month left!!
I think that the weather has made training pretty hard for so many runners this year. The best we can do is show up, run those miles and have some fun!
