Happy Sunday! Can you believe that April is almost over? I feel like I say this every month but the year is really going by rather quickly.
I just completed week 6 of training for the Cleveland 8K and Half Marathon and I’m feeling pretty good. The week started off a little rocky but I was able to hit my stride by the weekend. Let’s discuss!
Monday 4/23
90 tricep dips.
I had to work out of my company’s NYC office to help with a late afternoon event so I didn’t get home until around 8:30. I skipped my run since I got home late. It was totally poor planning on my part. I really should have gotten up early to get in my run before work, but to be honest, I’m lucky I get to work wearing regular clothes (and not pajamas) on Mondays!
Tuesday 4/24
3 mile run + body works + abs class (45 mins) + 90 push-ups.
When I was in NYC on Monday I did more walking that usual and I was wearing very flat shoes with no support. When I woke up on Tuesday the side of right lower leg was extremely sore and it almost felt like I pulled a muscle. Walking and going down the stairs was painful, but running felt okay (very odd). I modified some of the moves in the body works + abs class so that I didn’t aggravate it more.
Wednesday 4/25
Boot Camp (60 mins) + 90 jump squats.
Since my leg was still sore, I modified some of the moves in class. Even with the modifications, I still got in an awesome workout!
Thursday 4/26
5 mile run + 100 tricep dips.
My leg was still a little sore but the run was fine. On the other hand, the 100 tricep dips almost killed me! I broke them up into 4 sets of 25.
Friday 4/27
MY rest day, but I still got in 100 push-ups for the monthly challenge.
Saturday 4/28
11 mile run + 100 jump squats.
This run felt awesome! I did a bulk of the miles solo and then met up with the group for the remaining 4.5 miles.
Sunday 4/29
Body Works + Abs class (50 mins) + Spinning (60 mins).
Back to my double workout Sundays!
Total Weekly Mileage: 19
Total Training Cycle Miles ā 91.5
Grade ā B+
Although I missed one of my runs this week (4 miles), I am satisfied with all the workouts I was able to complete. On Thursday afternoon I went to see my ART doctor and he was able to use the graston technique to help my leg and my knee. It gave me a lot of relief!
As I mentioned earlier, Saturday’s long was really great. It was nice to have a long run where things ‘clicked’. My pace and breathing felt good, my knees were achy and I actually had energy when I finished the run. After I got home, showered, and ate breakfast, I noticed that my legs felt great too – no tiredness or stiffness. This is a once in a lifetime thing (like a unicorn) so I’m just continuing to enjoy my fresh legs! Let’s just hope that my long run next Saturday goes just as well. I can’t believe that I’ll been Cleveland in less than a month!
Next week is my peak week for training so I’m planning on getting in all my runs and workouts – I want to have a really strong week!
If you’re training for a race, did you have a good week? Do you have any Spring races on your running calendar?
Iām linking up with Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap.

Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
wow that is a ton of push ups and dips girl! I don’t think I do anywhere near that amount.Good luck with training this week! You seem a lot happier this cycle š
kookyrunner says
Yes, I am happy this training cycle..primarily because I don’t have to do any super duper long runs, lol. Half marathons are definitely more my speed when it comes to training. Not sure if I wanna torture myself with another marathon training cycle, unless the race was REALLY fun!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Glad you ended the week on a strong note! My feet and calves sometimes get sore when I wear shoes with no support and do alot of walking. Glad the ART helped!
kookyrunner says
Yes, the ART on Thursday afternoon was a Godsend! I’m so thankful that I was able to get relief. I hate having to modify moves in class because of injuries so I’m glad I’ll be “back to normal” this week!
Coco says
Oh my gosh, my legs were (and still are!) so tired after my 12 miler today. There’s no way I could have done jump squats. I can barely walk. š
kookyrunner says
I did the jump squats right after my run so I didn’t give myself a chance to think about the pain LOL
Wendy says
Isn’t it amazing how wearing a flat pair of shoes can hurt you later? I have a pair of flats I got last year–they’re from Patagonia–and they are the only flats I can wear without paying for it. They have all kinds of support built in!
I’m glad you had such a good long run yesterday!!! That shows that you put in some good training during your marathon training. Nice confidence boost for your upcoming race.
kookyrunner says
Yes! I really didn’t think much of it when I left the house on Monday morning but by the end of the day my feet and legs were aching. I’m on a quest to find some nice flats that have support that will be appropriate for work. I’ll check Paragonia based on your recommendation!
Thanks Wendy! I’m not going for a PR for this race but it would be nice to have a strong race.
Sara says
Getting the guns ready! That’s a lot of arm work! Good luck with your upcoming peak week! I can’t believe how much training you’ve been doing lately #beastmode!
One more race for me then I get a two week break. Hopefully I’ll find my new workout routine in that time.
kookyrunner says
Trying to get the arms ready for all those sleeveless shirts this summer!
You’ve been killing it with the races lately. Hope that you have another great one this upcoming weekend!
Lesley says
I did some tricep work today and they were burning! I have to remember to keep up with my upper body work since that’s just as important.
kookyrunner says
Right?! Tricep dips really, really burn! Such an effective arm workout.
Clarinda says
Fingers crossed that you have a nice, strong week next week for Peak Week! Love that your long run just clicked yesterday. Those are the best runs and can really boost a runner’s confidence. š
kookyrunner says
Thanks Clarinda! I woke up feeling good this morning so hopefully my peak week goes very well.
Kimberly Hatting says
Yay for a great 11-miler!!! Those runs (where everything clicks) are SOOOO amazing š Is that your mom in the group pic? Gosh, I am so envious!!! My mom lectures me on how “it’s probably not good for me to be running so much since that surgery…” (10 months ago LOL)
kookyrunner says
It’s such a great feeling. Yes, thats my mom in the pic š She got into running/racing the same time I did so we do a lot of the same races together.
HoHo Runs says
I had to give up wearing flats with my super high arches. I’m glad the graston technique gave you relief. I’ve heard of it but have never had it done. Congrats on such a satisfying long run as you head into your peak week of training. Thanks for linking!
kookyrunner says
The graston technique is definitely a bit painful, but the results are worth it!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I hope your leg doesn’t give you any more trouble. I sounds like the lower leg muscles were just complaining from being overworked since they weren’t used to wearing flats for so long.
It’s always great when a long run clicks (any run for that matter). Your run, rest, repeat shirt is cute!
kookyrunner says
Me too! It feels back to normal now so definitely a lesson learned about walking too much in flat shoes with no support!
Sarah @ merrillthon says
That feeling of nailing a long run is hard to beat! Glad you were able to get some relief in your lower leg – I had something very similar this week with my hip.
kookyrunner says
It definitely is and it’s such an awesome feeling. I wish I had it more often!
Sorry to hear about your hip. I hope that it’s feeling better.
Fairytalesandfitness says
Glad your legs felt better throughout the week. I’ve had pain before where I can feel it during the day just walking around but it doesn’t bother me while running. So weird. Great workouts this week.
kookyrunner says
It’s such a weird pain, right?! I’m just glad that it’s feeling better!
Darlene says
I had a strong 5k but not a strong 11 miles. My long runs are always a struggle. Let’s hope the half in a few weeks goes better.
Good luck in yours.
kookyrunner says
I hope you have a great upcoming half marathon!
Marcia says
Let’s hear it for fresh legs! I think your body is really responding well to all the training you’ve been doing. I know you don’t plan to “race” your race but I’ll bet a really strong effort is in the cards for you.
kookyrunner says
Yes! I feel like I try something a little different every training cycle and things seem to be really clicking right now.
Chaitali says
Glad the doctor was able to help out and your leg felt better! And yay for a long run where everything clicked like that š
kookyrunner says
Thanks Chaitali! I was happy to get some relief in my leg – it was such an annoying and nagging pain!
Renee says
Sounds like a great week but kind of a bummer about the pain in your leg. Iām literally always in sport shoes these days. I miss flats and even heels but since both operations hardly any shoe at all is happening. I wear my oofos a lot even around the house because I donāt feel any nerve pain when I have them on!
Iām so glad you had a really good run Saturday. And yay for double workout Sunday!
I havenāt done a lot of workouts and my training for Liverpool marathon is dismal so Iām dropping down to the Half. Saturday I also had a pretty great run + cycle session. Which was kind of what I needed to get the dark cloud above my head to disappear!
kookyrunner says
So glad that you had a really good run this weekend. I know that you’ve been struggling a little bit and it seems like maybe the dark cloud is finally leaving!
Catherine says
Thereās nothing like that feeling when a run clicks. I hope this next big week is great for you! I love that you have so much variety in your workouts. Iām trying to be more versatile going forward.
kookyrunner says
Totally agree! I feel like those good runs are few and far in-between so I always appreciate them.
Angela says
Glad your week ended strong. 100 of any exercise can be brutal- so I give you A+ for that. Hope you have a fantastic peak week!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Angela!
Anna @ Pipers Run says
100 pushups!?!?! Amazing!
Running didn’t go so well for me last week but that’s okay because this is a new week!
kookyrunner says
My arms felt like jelly after all those push ups!
Jessie says
You are a machine with all those push-ups and triceps dips..DAMN!
I have to admit, I’m jealous when I read your posts, I want to be running and having all that fun too! Enjoy it for me, okay š
kookyrunner says
I’m hoping that my arms are “ready for summer” after all the push ups and tricep dips!
Sorry Jessie š I know that it sucks to be on the sidelines, buy you will be out there running before you know it!
De Bolton says
Girl you should be a Kangaroo with all those jump squats. Impressive! I love all the variety in your training.
kookyrunner says
LOL, right?! I’m definitely did a lot this past month.
Rach says
I keep telling you this via various forms of social media but I am super impressed with your strength workouts!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Rachel! Sometimes it’s hard to keep up with it, but I really think it’s beneficial to my training.
Angela Cardamone @marathonsandmotivation.com says
Oh my, I have had the same issue with shoes before! Now that I’m old (haha), I go for function over fashion most days!!
kookyrunner says
I hate wearing heels but it’s just the nature of working in an office š It’s nice when I can wear flats when the weather is warmer but I definitely need to buy some with more support!
Jenn says
Great week!
I have shorter races coming up – a 10K on Mother’s Day, and then 5Ks through the summer. It’s just too hot for anything else here.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Jenn! So awesome that you have a 10K on Mothers Day! š
Esther says
Way to listen to your body after feeling some pain in your legs. Glad they are feeling better and that you had a great long run!
I don’t have any races planned yet, but lots of fitness events coming up š
kookyrunner says
Thanks Esther. I’ve had enough injuries that now I know when to listen to my body so I don’t make things worse!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Great job! I don’t think I could do 100 pushups on my rest day, LOL! I’m glad your long run felt so good!
kookyrunner says
My arms felt like jelly for a while after the push-ups were over. I’m glad that monthly challenge is over!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
So glad to hear your long run went so well! Fresh legs post long run is huge. Hope this week is just as good for you!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Michelle! I know fresh legs after a long run is like finding a unicorn so I was super excited, lol
Denise @ runheartfit says
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to do 100 push ups. You rock!
Glad you had a great 11 mile run. I love it when my long run feels good, especially when it’s getting close to a race.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Denise. It was hard but I’m glad that the monthly challenge is over!
