It’s 6:00 a.m. and you’re rushing to get ready for work. In your rush, you forget to throw something into your gym bag. Does this scenario sound familiar? Of course it does! This is why I always pack my gym bag at night before I go to sleep. This way I can just grab it and go before I leave my apartment.
Earlier this month, Mar posted about her Gym Bag Essentials and it made me think about my own “must-have” products for my gym bag.
1. Towel
I sweat A LOT, like it’s disgusting, so I always need a towel. I hate constantly using my shirt or hands to wipe away sweat (it gets disgusting after a while), so I always pack a hand towel in my gym bag. It’s the quickest way to wipe off the sweat so that I can get back to my workout.
I’m a huge fan of Honey Stinger products and I keep a waffle and a bag of energy chews in my gym bag at all times. I like to eat half of a waffle (or the whole waffle, depending on the distance) before a run. On Sundays I’m usually at the gym for 2 hours (to take 2 classes) so I’ll eat a few chews in-between classes so that I can sustain my energy.
3. Headphones/iPod
Music is my lifeline during a workout so I have two pairs of headphones in my gym bag. My main headphones are my Platonic BackBeat Fit wireless headphones. I won them last year during #Bibchat on Twitter and I absolutely LOVE them! I also have a pair of regular (wire) headphones in my gym bag as well – in case the battery dies on my wireless headphones during a workout.
4. Hairties
There’s nothing worse than being in the middle of a workout when your hairtie decides it no longer wants to work. It’s so frustrating! After this happened to me twice I decided to always keep a few extra hairties in my gym bag. It’s such a small thing but makes a huge difference during a workout – trust me!
5. Nuun
After a workout or treadmill run, Nuun is always by my side. I always keep 2-3 tubes in my gym bag (I like variety). It helps to keep me hydrated, especially in the summer!
Of course I have many other things in my gym bag (clothes, sneakers, etc) but these 5 items are, to me, the most important to have a productive workout.

I don’t have a gym bag, but if I did, all these things would be in there! I have a swim bag, for my pool running workouts. I actually have a swim cap and goggles in there but I never use them!

I always pack my bag the night before too. I won a pair of plantronics too. They are seriously the most amazing headphones!

I have pretty much the same items are you except the towel because my gym gives out towels. When I go back to work, I need to have my work clothes in my gym so that after my workout (TRX) in the morning I can shower, change, and go to work. I remember once I forgot my underwear and I had to go home to shower. Plus, sometimes I will be running after work too so on those days that I have TRX, I also need to add a set of workout clothes in the bag.

forgot my hair tie the other day when I went to swim laps! Not good. I seem to lose them all the time too.

That’s the worse! After many annoying workouts without hairties I try to always make sure I have one or two in my gym bag lol
