Happy Sunday! I hope that you all had a great week/weekend. We’re gearing up for another week of rain here π I hope that the weather is much better in your area! Week 2 of training went pretty well. Two weeks down, 18 more weeks to go!
Monday 5/29
Memorial Day. I was lucky to get in 3 miles in between the rain.
Tuesday 5/30
I took off work on Tuesday to extend my long weekend. It felt good to have an extra day off! I took a Pilates class in the morning and then ran 2 miles after the class. My legs were not happy with me!
Wednesday 5/31
55 minute Boot Camp class. I sweat so much during class this week. The instructor had a really great mix of cardio, weights, circuits and corework.
I also closed out the month of May with 65 miles. I was pretty happy with that number, but I know it’s just going to increase month after month during marathon training.
Thursday 6/1
Kicked off the first day of June with a tempo run. These runs get easier at some point, right?!
Friday 6/2
Rest days are the best days π
Saturday 6/3
45 minutes of spinning. This was by far the hardest spinning class I have taken in my life! The class uses RealRyder bikes and they tilt and lean as you ride. These bikes really require you to use your core and it’s so different than your traditional spinning class!
Sunday 6/4
8 mile long run. I ran 2 miles before the Hope in Motion 10 K (race recap coming later this week). Overall it was a good race, but I’ll leave all the nitty gritty details for my race recap.
Total Weekly Miles – 17
Total Training Cycle Miles – 28.5
Grade – A+
Week 2 went pretty well! I was hoping to get in some Yoga this week, so I’ll make a point to get it in next week. I’d like to get in some more strength straining next week as well. I had a lot of sore spots/little issues pop up during my ART appointment this week so I’ve been trying to be diligent and amp up my foam rolling and stretching.
I’ve also been loving the WorkoutSnap App this week. Have you tried it yet? I love that it has a lot of different activities to choose from and you can even add quotes. It also links up to Strava, Fitbit, Runkeeper and Health so it can pull in your activity from any of those programs.
Did you have a good week? Are you training for any Fall races?
Iβm linking up with Holly and Tricia for their Weekly Wrap, the Jessβs, (Jess Runs Atlanta and Jess @ The Right Fits) and Courtney for their Training Recap Link Ups!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Looks like you had a great week! That spin class sounds intense. I wish my spin bike worked my core like that!
kookyrunner says
It was definitely intense but I think I would do it again!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
You are having a really good training cycle! I think you’re going to do great at Chicago. So far, so good!
kookyrunner says
Thanks! Let’s just hope the training continues to go well!
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner says
Congrats on another solid week of training. I’ve tried those real rider bikes they are a fun change aren’t they? Have a great week
kookyrunner says
Those bikes were such a challenge!!
Jennifer @ Dashing in Style says
I’ve never heard of a spin class with bikes like that. I’d love to try it. I’m going to see if there’s anything like that near me. Oh, and tempo runs are always tough for me!
kookyrunner says
If there is a studio near you that uses those bikes, I totally recommend it. I haven’t met any runners yet that like tempo runs – looks like I’ll be suffering through those this summer!
Zenaida Arroyo says
That’s great you rocked your workouts this week. That bike are interesting. I am taking a class tomorrow morning (hopefully I get up) and am looking forward to it. Oh, I am not a big fan of tempo runs either. Sorry.
kookyrunner says
I hope that you enjoy the class tomorrow. I have a feeling I’ll just be suffering with the tempo runs this summer. Luckily they only happen once a week!
courtney @ eat pray run dc says
Random question – do you wear capris mostly when you run? I’m a shorts only girl from like March thru November and am so curious about capris in summer. Is it really hot for you? You look great – I just know I would die from overheating! Great week though – I love that we are on the same weeks of our training!
kookyrunner says
I would love to wear shorts more often, but I have a hard time finding compression shorts that don’t ride up when I run! I just ordered some shorts from Old Navy so I will check those out. In the summer my KT tape always sweats off if I wear shorts too. Also I have “junk in the trunk” and the capris tend to hold everything in/help with less jiggle, lol.
Fairytales and Fitness says
We are finally getting all that rain here this week which is a bummer! I hope the forecast is wrong!
Looking forward to the race recap!
kookyrunner says
Oh no π I do hope the forecast is wrong for you. I hope its wrong for my part of the state too – we are sick of rain!
Tracy says
I am not a huge fan of those Real Ryder bikes! I’m not a huge fan of spin bikes in general I guess, but those are just so awkward to me! I’ve never taken a spin class on one though (only used them solo) – I’m sure it’s intense! I also need to make more time for yoga, and make recovery more of a priority in general. I’ve been eyeing that R8 roller for a while now and need to just bite the bullet already!
kookyrunner says
I was lucky to get the R8 roller for Christmas and it’s one of the best gifts I have ever received. I’m not gonna lie, it hurts to use but that’s only because it gets deep into the muscles. My legs always feel better after I use it.
Coco says
Oh, those RealRyder bikes sound intriguing! I’ll have to figure out where I can try them around here. I haven’t heard of that app – will have to look for it!
kookyrunner says
I love the app, especially for my IG photos!
Karen says
I am in love with that shirt, especially the saying on the back! <3 Great job this week! It's so great that you had the chance to take an extra day off work to make it a four day weekend! Those are the best! π
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Karen! I picked out the wording for the back of the shirt and it was very important to me!
Marcia says
Another great week Kim! I’m intrigued by that spin bike. We’re supposed to be getting new ones as well and I’m wondering if it’ll be those. They sound cool!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Marcia! You’ll have to let me know which new spinning bikes you get!
Nicola @ Running Happy says
I’m afraid Tempo runs never get easier, even though the pace you run them might get quicker!
Great week of workouts. I’ve only ever been to one spin class and have not been tempted to go back. However, if there was a gym with tilting bikes I might give that a try.
kookyrunner says
Yeah I figured I tempo runs would always be hard, lol.
Hanna @ minimal marathoner says
Nice week! I’m training for Chicago too – just started today! SO EXCITED! I have a feeling it’s gonna be a great summer!
kookyrunner says
That’s awesome! I always get excited at the start of a new training cycle π
Mary Beth Jackson says
Sounds like marathon training is off to a great start! That spinning class sounds tough! I have never tried one! Thanks for linking up!
kookyrunner says
Thanks for gust hosting the link up this week!
Sharon says
Looks like a great week of workouts!! Ah I miss spin class. That bike sounds so interesting! Tough but I’m sure worth it!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Sharon! It was a really hard workout!
Clarinda says
Looks like the WorkoutSnap app is only for iOS. Boo.
Great week of training! Those spinning bikes sound kind of amazing. And tough.
kookyrunner says
Awwe that’s crappy π Sorry about that, I should checked!
Smitha @ FauxRunner says
Great start to training!
Tempo runs are supposed to be hard in training, and then race day you will be breezing through.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Smitha! Let’s hope that the race will be a breeze if I can hit my tempo runs lol
Teresa says
Great week girl! I absolutely Spin classes and have been wanting to try a RealRyder bike for a while now. We don’t have any at my gym…. I may have to find another gym that has them and at least go “visit” π I could so be a spin junkie!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Teresa! I used to be a spin junkie, I even taught spinning classes for a year, but it got to be too much and I needed a little break!
TJ from TJ Tells It says
Looks like you are off to a great start! The RealRyder bike looks really cool. I’m going to see if I can’t find a place in Atlanta that has them. It might be a good transition from indoor to road cycling.
kookyrunner says
Very true – I think it would definitely be a great transition from indoor to outdoor!
Elle says
Looks like a terrific week. I have only ever done spinning once and that was hard enough for me!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Elle! Spinning is definitely hard but I love it because it’s such a great workout!
Anna @ Pipers Run says
I can’t even think about fall races as I’ve yet to run my spring race (in two weeks). Great week!
kookyrunner says
Good luck in all of your Spring races this season!
Rachel says
What a great week! That bike looks like so much fun. I’ve never taken a real spinning class so I probably wouldn’t notice the difference? What a great challenge!
kookyrunner says
Yup it was definitely a good challenge. You should try a spinning class – I bet you would like it!
Kimberly Hatting says
I love your Kim Runs Chicago pic! Somehow, I can totally relate to that sentiment π (especially after the past two days). I’ll be adding some fall races to my calendar soon…so far I only have R’n’R Vegas (November).
kookyrunner says
LOL π RnR Vegas was definitely a different kind of running experience. I think running at night threw me for a loop!
Bethany says
Amazing girl!
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
Yay for a great week of training. As of yesterday I’ve joined you now for marathon training. Hopefully we can meet up in Chicago during race weekend!
kookyrunner says
Definitely! I’m planning on flying in that Friday and flying out that Monday – I’m sure I’ll see you at some point during race weekend!
vicki says
Great week of training! I don’t think those tempo runs ever get easier π
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Vicki! I have accepted that tempo runs will be hard for the next 18 weeks lol
Chaitali says
Sounds like a week of great work outs! I hope you have better weather this week. We’ve had a lot of rain too and I’m definitely ready for it to end π
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I’m hoping that the rain will leave after this week.
Jamie says
That thing with the wheels… in your Wednesday workout post? It looks like a torture device. What is that?? Also, I love that tank and need one. I’m totally getting one. Thanks for sharing it!
kookyrunner says
That’s an R8 roller from Roll Recovery. I know it looks like a torture device, but it’s really good!
Jenn says
Oooh! I love the idea of a bike that tilts and leans! Neat!
I have a few smaller races through the summer, and then my longer distances start in October. I’m excited to get back to more miles and long runs, although I think I’ve done a good job keeping up my base. No marathons on the horizon, though π
kookyrunner says
It was pretty cool! It wasn’t what I originally expected, it was much better!
Wendy says
Great week of training! I don’t know if tempo runs ever get easier, but on occasion I have one that goes really well and I feel like I “get” tempos. Still hard as heck. LOL.
kookyrunner says
That’s good to know! I’m still waiting for a really good tempo run, lol!
Jessie says
I’ve tried those Real Ryder classes- the Corepower Yoga by me used to offer them, but not anymore. They were great! Definitely even harder than regular Spin (though I’m not strong in either kind :))
Strong week Kimberly!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Jessie! I was pleasantly surprised at the challenge from the Real Ryder bikes!
Abby @BackatSquareZero says
Amazing week. A for sure.
I will tell you I do my short run before barre/pilates because my body says “Heck, No!+ after.
kookyrunner says
Definitely. It’s so hard to run after one of those classes lol
Toni says
Looks like an awesome week! Marathon training is hard, but you got this!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Toni!
Michelle Rogers says
Chicago looks like an amazing place to run! Haven’t been there yet but it’s definitely on my want-to-do list.
kookyrunner says
It’s a great city! I’ve done the Rock n Roll 1/2 Marathon twice there and really enjoyed myself.
Patty @ Reach Your Peak says
so exciting that chicago marathon training is here! I cant wait to run that race again.
A spin bike that leans and tilts sounds tough and scary lol, way to crush your workouts!
kookyrunner says
I’ve heard so many great things about the race so I’m very excited!
