Happy Friday! Did you have a good month? I can’t believe that July 4th is next weekend, so crazy how time is flying by! June was a strange month for me, especially this week as I recovered from surgery. Thanks so much to everyone for all your kind words – I really appreciate it! I’m going to post a blog next week detailing my experience being a bone marrow donor in case anyone is interested. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, that’s for sure!
Since it’s the last Friday of the month, I’m linking up with Marcia from Marcia’s Healthy Slice for Runfessions. Let’s get started!
I runfess that running and I have hit a rough patch in our relationship
My running motivation pretty much tanked toward the end of May. In fact, my longest run since then has been around 5 miles and I 32 ran miles in June. This is probably my lowest monthly mileage in months, maybe years. I’m okay with this because I was expecting it. After training for a Spring marathon and half marathon, it was inevitable that I would need a break from high mileage. Thankfully I don’t have a Fall marathon this year so I can run just to run this summer.
I runfess that I’m not looking forward to stepping on the scale this weekend
Although I’m still on Weight Watchers, I definitely fell off the wagon this week. I have still been tracking my meals, but not making the healthiest choices. I was doing very good this month but between my trip to NOLA and then recovering from the surgery, I have wanted more comfort foods. In my defense I needed to make sure I ate hearty meals to take my pain medicine, but next week I’ll get on track.
I runfess that I have no plans for the 4th of July, and I’m fine with that!
Similar to Memorial Day, I have no plans for the 4th of July, and I’m actually so happy about that. Considering the 4th of July falls on a Wednesday, it’s hard to travel anywhere when you have to be at work the next day. I’m looking forward to a relaxing day at home with some food from the grill and a nice drink.
I runfess that you should order a Pro Compression grab bag
These grab bags come around about once a year and it’s a great deal. You can get 3 pairs of Pro Compression marathon socks for $40 with code BAG. If you don’t care about the colors or a certain design, this is a great deal since these socks usually go for $50 a pair.
I runfess that I’m not prepared for our upcoming heatwave
To be honest, we’ve had a pretty mild summer and I couldn’t be happier about that (I hate the hot weather). Well all good things have to come to an end and we’re expecting our first “heatwave” starting tomorrow and lasting through the weekend. All I can say is thank god for air conditioning! After being in NOLA for a few days, I have no clue how runners in the South deal with that hot and humid weather – it’s horrible!
That’s it for this month – thanks for reading my runfessions! I hope that you have a great weekend!
I’m also linking up for Friday Five 2.0 with Rachel from Running on Happy and Lacey and Meranda from Fairytales and Fitness.
Do you have anything you want to runfess for June?
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
It’s nice to not worry about a race and just run to run. I don’t have 4th of July plans either- its so strange that it falls on a Wednesday!
kookyrunner says
It’s really nice to run with no pressure. I also think I needed a break from summer training because it’s just so brutal lol
Wendy says
It looks like so many of us are in the same boat with RnR training…yep, it’s going to be all about the fun.
I’m looking forward to reading about your BM donor experience! have a great week.
kookyrunner says
Yeah my RnR training has pretty much been non-existent so I will most likely drop down from the half to the 10k. I’m still doing the 5k so I will get my remix medal (give me the bling)!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Do you go to RL meetings? If so, make sure to go. That’s my secret — go no matter how bad it is at the scale. You’ll leave the meeting motivated. And if you’re doing it online, don’t throw in the towel — only one thing happens when we do that. We all have rough patches.
As to the running, don’t sweat that either. You’ll know when it’s right to get back at it.
kookyrunner says
I don’t go to RL meetings – I just do online but I’m definitely not throwing in the towel! Since I’m feeling way better today and able to move around more, I’m back on track with my eating too 🙂
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
That is pretty much my running mantra as well. Can’t wait to see you in a few weeks and run together. Maybe if we chit chat the whole way it won’t feel as hot 🙂
kookyrunner says
I am so looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks!! I am most likely dropping down from the half marathon to the 10k, but I’m also doing the 5k too!
Marcia says
I love your No Rules Just Run mantra. That’s been the story of my life since Berlin last year. I’ve been entertaining the RnRCHI 10k since my long run has been non-existant. Can’t wait to see you!
kookyrunner says
I’m most likely going to drop down from the half to the 10K. My training just hasn’t been great at all and I probably won’t even be able to run again until the second week in July.
Anna @ Piper's Run says
I runfess that I haven’t trained for a race in 6 weeks and it’s been the best break I’ve had with running. I started back with some long runs for fun but it’s been a nice break just running when I Want to.
kookyrunner says
Yes! not having to train for anything is really amazing. I do have a few half marathons in September/October so eventually I’ll have to increase my mileage but not right now.
Coco says
I like that motto! You should give yourself a break over the scale. The surgery can impact that too. Definitely want to heat more – I hope your recovery is going well!!
kookyrunner says
Yes that motto is so relatable to everyone!
Lesley says
I feel that way about the 4th. I took time off the week before last year to enjoy some vacation, and that was fun. It’s hard when it’s not a long weekend, and I have to work the next day. Boo. I’m not sure what I’ll do either.
kookyrunner says
It’s so hard when the 4th falls during the middle of the week!
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
I am looking forward to hearing your experience as a bone marrow donor!
I just found out about the heat wave and we are taking our niece and nephews to Hershey Park on Monday. It is going to be so hot!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Megan! I am working on a blog detailing my experience and hope to have it posted next week.
Have fun at Hershey Park and stay hydrated!
Darlene says
My running mojo has left me since my last half in May. I run but I have skipped runs and need to squeeze them in no matter what my schedule is. maybe even run before work.
It will be very hot here. Over 100 heat index. And I have a 15k race tomorrow…not prepared!!
kookyrunner says
I hope that your 15k went okay today despite the heat!
Nicole @ fitnessfatale says
Not looking forward to running in the heat either!
kookyrunner says
I hope this heatwave ends soon!
Patrick@looneforfood.com says
Have a great July 4th and good luck in this heat wave we are about to have.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Patrick. Good luck to you too – stay cool!
Kelly says
I’m not a runner whatsoever, so I can’t jump into the Runfession train. But your July 4th plans sound like what I’m planning. And I am also totally not excited about this heat wave.. It’s 91.5 degrees outside today and supposed to get hotter. Please let’s go back to Spring or fast forward to Fall, haha. I want low humidity 60s-low 80s please. 🙂
kookyrunner says
Yes the heatwave this weekend, extending into next week, is crazy! I think Sunday is supposed to be the worse day but thank goodness for AC!
I also love the Fall/Winter – I’m not a summer person at all!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I give you so much credit for being a bone marrow donor! I’ll be really interested in hearing about your experience.
And that mantra is perfect – this heat & humidity is just taking me out right now!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Michelle! I’m happy that my recovery seems to be going really well so far (knock on wood).
I’ all about that mantra too! Even though I can’t run yet, just walking in the heat this morning was brutal!
Rachel says
I runfess that I’ve been so damn out of the loop I didn’t even know you had surgery. Are you okay?? Hugs, girl.
kookyrunner says
I’m good girl! I had surgery on Monday to donate bone marrow to a patient currently fighting cancer. Hopefully my donation will help him beat cancer (fingers crossed)! But I’m doing well and recovery is right on target.
The Accidental Marathoner says
My husband and I were in NOLA the first week of September a few years ago, and it was absolutely MISERABLE. Our first and last time there. I’m sure it’s lovely at other times of the year, but we are one and done.
kookyrunner says
Yeah I’ve heard that September is very hot in NOLA as well. If I go back it will be in the winter for sure.
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
I am excited this year that I do actually have 4th of July plans. In the past I have always worked so this year I am running a local 5k then having a family picnic.
kookyrunner says
That’s great that you don’t have to work on the 4th – Enjoy!
Kimberly Hatting says
Oh, I have been waiting forever for Pro Compression to have a grab bag sale for the calf sleeves I get their emails frequently, but have not see such an offer like that for along time. I might have to just take a chance on the full socks, though I’m not a fan of how they feel on my toes ;-(
kookyrunner says
I think they may be coming out a grab bag for the calf sleeves sometime later on this year. I will let you know when they come out!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
I hope you are recovering well from your surgery. Donating bone marrow is such an amazing gift – props to you!
I’m used to having a mileage winddown in the summer, but it sucks that it’s forced rest because of my Plantar Fasciitis. You have trained so hard for so long, it must be a treat to be able to just run for fun!
I’m trying to avoid the heat wave too…I hate that we’ll have to have the A/C on blast, but tis the season! I’m not taking any extra days off for the 4th so we’re going to grill on Wednesday and have a few people over. Even though it’ll still be 90, it’s going to be fun!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Janelle! I’m feeling good and hope to be back to somewhat normal by the end of next week.
Sorry to hear about your PF but from your blog post it looks like you are doing everything right to help heal it.
Farrah says
It’s definitely been super crazy hot lately! I just wanna jump in a pool!
kookyrunner says
Same here!
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
A low key holiday at home sounds absolutely perfect. My husband, son, and I did just that for Memorial Day and at that time it was just what we needed. I hope that you enjoy your low key day off.
kookyrunner says
Sometimes not having a plan for a holiday is awesome. I think we take relaxing for granted sometimes!
Cari says
No rules, just run was June for me and I loved it. I’m back into a training cycle (speed, not distance), but the month off from it was good.
My plans for the 4th only came into place Friday. Otherwise I feel you, it’s lovely though to have a random Wednesday off
kookyrunner says
I love having time during the year when I’m not training for anything. Certainly makes running more enjoyable!
