Today I am linking up with Annmarie from The Fit Foodie Mama, Angelena Marie from Angelena Marie: Happy, Healthy & Balanced, Michelle at Fruition Fitness and Nicole from Nicole from FitFul Focus for Wild Workout Wednesday!
Last month I asked for your help to come up with a new workout routine.
Why the need for a new routine?
Well there were a few reasons…
1. Gym changes. My current gym (LA Fitness) changes classes and teachers ALL THE TIME (it’s really not the best gym but it’s in my price range, so for now I’ll stay). Therefore I really only have two classes that I attend weekly with my favorite instructor – Boot Camp and Spinning.
2. I was getting lazy. I’m a very type A personality so I like routine and structure. Without those two things, I was starting to get lazy, putting off workouts for ‘later’ and then either ‘later’ would never come or I would half-ass the workout. That’s just not acceptable.
3. Winter weight gain sucks. I’ve got a good 10 pounds to drop before I start marathon training at the end of this summer. I indulged a little too much in ALL THE CARBS these past few months so I need to re-set my eating habits (portion control is key). This mixed in with a good workout routine to help me shed the pounds the right way.
So…with all that said, I have decided on the following workout routine to help me stay on track:
Monday – Running + Strength Training
Tuesday – Running + PT exercises (includes core)
Wednesday – Boot Camp
Thursday – Running + Core Work
Friday – Active Rest Day (Yoga or Walking)
Saturday – Running (long run)
Sunday – Spinning or Strength Training
Nothing is set in stone, but I really think this will work for me. To avoid injury, or a flare up of my old injury, I cannot run every day. I think running four days a week, mixed in with boot camp, spinning and 2 days od dedicated strength training, will help me achieve my weight loss goal, and get stronger in the process.
Special thanks to Abby, Annmarie, Ariana and Susie for their comments on my previous post. They were super helpful!
Do you have a workout routine? Do you find that it keeps you on track?

Oh my gosh I wrote a very similar post today! Too funny! I’m really focusing on strength work this training cycle, 4 days a week!

That’s so funny! Great minds think alike 🙂

I need to put PT exercises into my schedule, maybe then I would be more consistent with them!
kookyrunner says
That’s exactly why I added them into my routine so that it forces me to do them!

I’m trying to come up with a routine myself, but having a job as a hiking guide I never know what my weeks are going to hold. I may only be doing a few 1-hr hikes a week or I may be doing back-to-back 10 mile hikes up and over mountains. it’s tough to make a schedule when my job is so active!
kookyrunner says
Wow, that certainly makes it hard to make a workout routine, but I love that you have such an active job! I work in an office with a set schedule so it’s a little easier for me to make a routine.

Looks like you have a great workout schedule planned for the summer. I don’t currently have one but I need to get on one ASAP!! I am eating all the foods and not doing all the workouts! Runs are going well but need to strength train. Thanks for the motivation!

Thank you! Good Luck with planning your workout routine for the summer. Now that I have a routine, I feel good about getting in my workouts!

I love love love your new workout schedule and could not agree more that running every day isn’t always the best idea especially if you know your body can’t tolerate it. Can’t wait to hear updates and how it’s working for you <3

Thanks Annmarie! I’m hoping it all works out well. So far so good!

This sounds like an awesome plan! If you ever want to come into the city for a long run or to take a class, hit me up!

Thanks Nicole! I’m going to try to do a few long runs in Central park during marathon training 🙂
