It’s Friday night and the marathon is on Sunday, so what better time to write about my marathon goals!
My running coach, Abby, did a nice post about her goals, and the three types of goals that you should have for a race. Here are my goals.
Goal 1: FINISH
So my main/top goal for the marathon is just to finish. This is my first marathon and I really want to enjoy it and soak up the experience. You only get one first marathon so it should be enjoyable. I’m also running through one of the best cities in the world, so there’s that aspect too 🙂
Goal 2: Finish in 5 hours
Based on both of my 20 mile runs I *should* be able to hit this goal. I plan on starting the race at a slower pace, so I may lose some time. Then again I might feel like a rockstar and end up being speedy in the second half of the race. Also the route has a few hills which will slow me down, even though I trained on them. Who knows what race day will bring, but I would be thrilled with hitting this goal!
Goal 3: 5:15 Finish Time
If the hills kick my butt, or I take more walk breaks than necessary, I may be closer to this goal.
So that’s it! I’m more than ready to Get My New York On and run the race of a lifetime on Sunday!

I think your first goal is the most important one! I went into my first and second marathon without time goals, and it really allowed me to enjoy the experience. I am so excited for you! Soak it all up and enjoy your victory lap!
