Wow – This week went by SO fast! Week 14 is in the book and only 2 MORE WEEKS UNTIL THE MARATHON! I feel like I’ve been training forever and I can’t believe that race day is coming so soon. I’m excited and anxious, all at the same time!!
Monday
7 mile run. It was a little hard doing this after the 20 miler last Saturday, but I did the run at a very easy pace.
Tuesday
5 mile run. I started this run at 5am, enough said!
Wednesday
60 minute body works class. This is a total body workout and I loved it!
Thursday
6 mile tempo run. I’ll admit, I’m not a huge fan of speed work/tempo runs, but I know it’s necessary
Friday
Rest day π
Saturday
14 mile long run. So I woke up to the following – 48 degrees, pouring rain and high winds. I really didn’t want to relive the Staten Island Half, so I opted tackle all 14 miles on the treadmill. Was it ideal? No, but it was better than running outside and potentially slipping on the pavement or getting sick from being outside in that weather. It’s too close to the marathon now to take any chances!
Overall the treadmill run was good. I broke it down into 4-4-4-2. At each break, it was good to stop for a minute, grab some water (with Nuun), stretch and then continue on with the next set of miles. I finished tired, but with a smile on my face, so that’s all that matters!
Sunday
60 minute spinning class. I like spinning as a recovery for my legs after a long run.
In addition, I ordered this bib from Races2Remember to celebrate my first marathon! I love this bib because I could personalize it and the colors match the NYC Marathon bib π
Total Miles β 32 miles
Training Cycle β 412.65 miles
Grade β A+
I think I earned an A+ this week! I hit all my workouts/paces and I was able to get in a body works and spinning class. I felt a little tired this week (probably from peak week), but other than that, everything seems to be going well. I know I was “officially” in the taper last week, but now I really feel like it’s “taper time” as my runs are shorter during the week and weekend moving forward.
If you have any training tips, please let me know in the comments β I welcome any advice!
Iβm linking up with Holly and Tricia for their Weekly Wrap.
Iβm also Linking Up with the Jessβs (Jess Runs Atlanta and Jess @ The Right Fits) for their new link up for training recaps!
Have a great week and thanks for stopping by my blog!

Kim, it’s been fun following your journey this year! I remember you qualifying for this bib with all the races you did last year! Now you are 2 weeks away from the big show. You’ve certainly owned your training. I’m so excited for you!! Enjoy your taper. Think about your muscles just soaking in all the training. Good juju.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Wendy! I can’t believe that it’s almost here. I’m definitely going to try to really enjoy the taper and savor everything about marathon weekend! I’m not sure if this will be my one and only marathon, so I really want to soak up all the good vibes that day. I know it’s a once in a lifetime race so I feel honored that I get to run it. Thanks for sending me good juju π

14 treadmill miles! Holy! Kudos to you…that’s 8 more than my ‘mill PR….I don’t I think I could ever do 14 on that beast LOL But, you said it well…it’s too close to go time to take any chances. I’ve been doing a lot of 5:00AM runs LOL My body is gonna be so confused when my marathon is over π

That was my longest treadmill run, but I have done 13 miles on the treadmill before. I will say that the last 4 miles were pretty brutal because I was sick of staring at the wall lol. Thankfully I had a great playlist on my iPod!
The early morning runs are so brutal, but it feels awesome to get them done early in the day!

You seriously have the best tights! So many fun colors and patterns π

LoL thanks Jessie! I have to give all the credit to Old Navy – super cute, durable and affordable!

14 treadmill miles?! Goodness, I would have been so bored. The longest I’ve ever done is 10 and it was awful! So impressed!
Good luck on the rest of your taper!!!! Almost time to start stalking the weather!
kookyrunner says
The treadmill miles started to get hard after mile 10 – I was just bored! but it did beat the alternative on running in a downpour lol.
I have already started stalking the weather lol. so far so good!

Great job on your long run on the treadmill. I don’t know if I could go that long on a treadmill. If I would take a quick break after each set a miles, I don’t think I would be able to get back on. Love the idea of the personalized bib!
kookyrunner says
I think the short break between miles was the only thing that saved me, lol
Sharon says
Wow! Two more weeks! So excited for you! Sounds like you had a great week of training and 14 miles on the treadmill? You rock!!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Sharon! I’m started to get excited and I really can’t wait to run the race!
Karen says
I am excited for you ! I am doing my first one too π Your training looked solid and if you were tough enough to pump out 14 on the TM you go this!
The TM was a good choice. I have gotten really sick after rain runs, it messes with your body temp so much, good call!!
haha, I love your, not a fan but it is necessary speed work pic! SO true!!! I relate.
kookyrunner says
We’re so close to the big race – I’m excited for us! I’ve run in bad weather before but I’m trying to be very cautious about staying healthy these next two weeks!
Tricia Vaughn says
I think you should get bonus points! Wow, 14 miles on the treadmill! You are beast woman! You’re right every little thing you second guess right before a marathon. I think you made the safer decision to stay inside. I bet the smaller chunks helped make this run happen!
Enjoy this taper time and I can’t wait to see how you do!
Thanks so much for joining us!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Tricia! Granted 14 miles on the treadmill was NOT ideal, but I’m doing everything I can to stay healthy at this point – just two more weeks to go!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Wow, the race is getting so close! I can’t wait to hear how it goes! Great job hitting those workouts, especially after your 20 miler. The weather on Saturday was awful, I would have hit the treadmill too!
kookyrunner says
Less than two weeks away – I’m getting excited!
At first I felt like I “chickened out” by running on the treadmill, but 14 miles in the rain/wind? No thank you! lol
Karen @ Fit in France says
OMG 14 miles on the treadmill ? You rock. But I wouldn’t have run in cold wind & rain either. For the moment the race weather is looking pretty darn good. Its the home stretch !
kookyrunner says
I checked the race day weather this morning and I am liking what I see! Let’s just hope it stays that way π
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
14 miles on the ‘mill?!? You are my hero! Seriously, the longest run I’ve ever done was 8 miles and I thought I wouldn’t make it. Just 2 weeks to go – so excited for you!
kookyrunner says
Yeah it definitley wasn’t ideal but given the weather, it was the best choice, lol. I am usually good for 10 miles on the treadmill and then I start getting SO bored, so the last 4 miles were a struggle!
I can’t believe the race is less than 2 weeks away!
HoHo Runs says
14 miles on the TM is very impressive. It was smart to break it into manageable chunks too. How exciting to be running your first marathon! And, it’s none other than bucket list NYC! All of your hard work, including that not-a-huge-fan speedwork, is going to pay off on race day. Enjoy your taper! Thanks for linking, Kim.
kookyrunner says
I keep thinking about how lucky I am that I get to run NYC as my 1st marathon – it still seems surreal!
Sonia says
Great week of training, especially 14 miles on the dreadmill! Wow. I love that personalized bib! So exciting it’s almost here!
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I was very happy to get to the personalized bib, I think it’s so cute!
Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC says
I’m so excited for you to tackle this race! Can’t wait to see you rock it!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Courtney!

I like breaking up the runs as well on the treadmill. It is a mind game and it is best to say I am doing 2 runs of 5 miles each. Then follow that by taking a break at 2.5 miles. I ‘ve done it and it helps. Yes, so much better than running outside in those conditions.
I am getting excited for you too!!!
kookyrunner says
The breaks really do help. You’re right, it’s a total mind game. The one thing I do like about the treadmill is that you can regulate the speed and run the same pace.
