Another Sunday, another marathon training week complete! I can’t believe I just finished week 4 of marathon training. Just 12 weeks stand between me and the race start in Staten Island – oh boy!
Monday
6.2 miles for the Fitfam Great Outdoors Challenge Virtual 10K. I had 6 easy miles on the schedule but added the additional .20 š
Tuesday
5 mile easy run. While I love the look of these New Balance sneakers, I don’t think they will work for me for distance running. I’m going to keep them for strength training classes because I love the color!
Wednesday
60-minute Boot Camp Class
Thursday
4 mile easy run. I really did NOT want to run this day but I just put on my headphones and got to work.
Friday
REST DAY!
Saturday
7 mile long run. All I can say is THANK GOD this was a cut back week. The heat and humidity is absurd this weekend. It was so bad I took off my shirt and ran in a sports bra (something I said I would NEVER do).
Sunday
60-minute spinning class. I wish I could fit spinning in more than once a week because I know it helps with my endurance.
Total Miles – 22 miles
Training Cycle – 83.2 miles
Grade – A
This was a pretty good week. I’m doing my foam rolling and PT exercises daily so I think that’s helping with my IT band. It’s still bothering me, but seems to be getting better. Next week I start incorporating tempo runs into my training – oh boy!
If you have any training tips, please let me know in the comments ā I welcome any advice!
Also, Iām linking up with Holly and Tricia for their Weekly Wrap.
I’m also Linking Up with the Jess’s (Jess Runs Atlanta and Jess @ The Right Fits) for their new link up for training recaps!

Cycling really helped me with my marathon training cycles! You need time on the road but as i always say, endurance is endurance! This is a tough summer for marathon training. Great job getting it done!

I really enjoy spinning! I used to teach but haven’t in over a year. You are so right about it helping with endurance!
Abby @ BackAtSquareZero says
Great job this week. I am so happy that your IT band is calming down a bit.
kookyrunner says
Me too! I just hope that everything stays that way. I think the daily PT exercises and foam rolling is really helping.
Tricia Vaughn says
What 60 minutes of spinning is no joke you are beast!!! I can hardly muck through 45 minutes. So way to go on that, and I love the for real picture! It is no joke isn’t it! We have been telling yall how bad it is down here!!!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much! I really love spinning (I used to teach it) and I wish I could do it more!
I don’t know how you deal with this HOT weather, this weekend was brutal up here!!
Coco says
Sounds like you had a really good week! Foam rolling definitely helps me with my ITB issues – keep at it!
kookyrunner says
I’ve been foam rolling twice a day for about 2 weeks and I can really feel the difference. Icing also helps!
Jessie says
I heard it was a hot and humid one in NYC- way to get it done!
Also love those New Balance trainers- so fun!
Strong week and thanks for joining our link-up!
kookyrunner says
I cannot begin to describer the weather this weekend – BRUTAL! Thanks for hosting this new link up!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Nice work! I wish last week was a step back for me because that would have meant less time in the brutal humidity and heat! I was curious about those New Balance shoes, they are super cute! I’m still way too shy to run in just a sports bra so kudos!
kookyrunner says
I was thrilled to have a step back week because this weather is just out of control. I hope this upcoming weekend will be better! I’m very self conscious, but I was so HOT on Saturday that I had to take off my shirt lol
Sonia says
This heat is oppressive and this is the hardest summer of training yet. Great job on the spinning class and a great week of training. I do some road cycling, but haven’t gotten back to it yet.
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much! The heat is really starting to get to me so I hope for cooler temps soon!
Jen @ SprinklesHikes.com says
What a great week and you are a BEAST! Also, I know how you feel about running in a bra. I’ve always said “NO WAY” but lately… yes way. It’s just incredibly hot out there for everyone right now.
kookyrunner says
Thansk Jen! On Saturday I got over my whole “no running in a bra” thing. You’re right, it’s just way too hot for extra clothes lol
Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC says
You are doing great! Keep it up, lady!!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Courtney!

Last year, I ran a marathon after fracturing my foot and doing nothing but outdoor cycling and pool running for 2 months (then a few weeks of running just before the race). So, my opinion of cycling is way up there. It’s definitely in this marathon training cycle for endurance purposes. You had a great week, despite that nasty heat and humidity! You look good rockin’ just a bra!! And it matches your shoes perfectly! Thanks for linking, Kim!
kookyrunner says
Wow you are amazing! It’s awesome that you were able to complete a marathon after a fracture. That just shows your dedication!
Meranda@Fairytalesandfitness says
I had ITBS for 18 months! It’s no joke. Glad you are getting yours under control.
kookyrunner says
It’s SO annoying because I feel like I keep doing all the right things but it wont go away completely!
Sharon says
Sounds like a good week of training especially with the heat and humidity! Way to get it done!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Sharon!

I’ve had those days during training when I didn’t feel like running but the right type of music gave me an adrenaline boost and pushed me through. Are you familiar with Jason Fitzgerald of StrengthRunning.com? He had an ITB injury and has devised a set of exercises that helped him with recovery. It was recently featured in the August issue of RW.
kookyrunner says
I think music can make such a difference in a workout! Thanks so much for the information for StrengthRunning.com, I’ll check it out!
Jess @ Jess Runs ATL says
Thanks for linking up!!
I’m glad your IT band is getting under control. I’ve found lots of glute-focused strength training really keeps those issues at bay.
kookyrunner says
Thanks for hosting the new link up Jess! The IT band has been okay lately, just hoping I can “get rid” of it once and for all!
Zenaida Arroyo says
My ITB is getting irritated too. It was definitely angry with me yesterday.
kookyrunner says
It’s such an annoying injury š Hope we both feel better soon!
Jack says
You have the will and patience, that’s all needed. You will definitely achieve your marathon goal. It’s much cooler now so hope you feel better and have great training weeks ahead!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much for the kind words Jack!
