It’s Tunes Tuesday time! I’m thrilled to be hosting this link up with Janelle and Steff each week! We hope that you find new songs for your playlist each week!
This week is all about pump up songs. You know, those songs that give you a little extra power to finish up your run or workout.
Luckily I have very diverse taste in music – ranging from rap to rock, and everything in-between. Because of this, I can use a bunch of songs to pump me up during a workout. When it comes to rock songs, my first choice is always the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The band literally formed the same year I was born, so I think it’s only fitting that they are my favorite rock band 🙂 Here are two of my favorite pump up songs from the group.
Song: Give It Away
Album: Blood Sugar Sex Magik
Artist: Red Hot Chili Peppers
Genre: Funk Rock / Rap Rock
Year Released: September 1991
This is my #1 song by the group. When you think of a good rock song, I feel like this would in the top 10 of Rock Songs of All Time. You can constantly hear the drums and the guitar throughout the entire song. I also love that this song got new life when the band joined Bruno Mars on stage during the Super Bowl Halftime show a few years ago. Oh, and it’s a pretty kick-ass song for running too!
Song: Warped
Album: One Hot Minute
Artist: Red Hot Chili Peppers
Genre: Rock
Year Released: August 1995
Truth be told, I don’t really know all of the lyrics in this song, but the beat is so sick that it doesn’t matter. This song will either make you want to break stuff (lol) or run a little faster/workout a little harder. I love how the tempo slows down at the end of the song, almost acting like a “cool down” period. If you’re running or going hard on the machines at the gym, this a perfect pump-up song!
Do you have a favorite song that gets you pumped up? Let us know and add your blog post to the link up below!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Oh man, I was clearly missing out on some Red Hot Chili Peppers! Whenever I hear Give It Away it makes me think of the episode they were on The Simpsons, lol!
kookyrunner says
LOL me too! That was a fun episode. I still cannot believe that the Simpsons are on the air.
Anna says
This is perfect because I’ve been needing something to pump myself up at the gym! As I’ve been lacking some motivation lately. Thank you for the Red Hot Chilli Peppers throwback!
kookyrunner says
No problem! Glad I was able to give you some songs to listen to at the gym!
Rachel says
I freaking LOVE RHCP. But really only one album… By The Way. And I love Under the Bridge.
Can we talk about how I think we have the same music tastes? I feel like every post of yours I’m over here nodding my head in agreement. Except for the songs I don’t know which are a lot lately… #facepalm.
kookyrunner says
I think we definitely have the same taste in music. The only reason I know some of the “new” songs is due to the radio on my drive into work. Other than that I wouldn’t know any new songs, lol
Reca says
You can’t go wrong with RHCP if pumping up is the result you are looking for. This was definitely a good throwback here.
kookyrunner says
Totally agree! RHCP has some of the best pump up songs.
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner says
ooh just added those to my spotify list! Thanks
kookyrunner says
Glad you found some new songs to add!
Steff says
Love the Chili Peppers! I don’t know why I forgot them on my playlist!
kookyrunner says
I hope this week’s post gave you some RHCP songs to add to your playlist!
Gina says
I just love the chili peppers, but can you believe Give it Away is probably my least favorite! 🙂 ha!
kookyrunner says
Really?! Well they have had so many hits so I can understand that!
Anna @ Pipers Run says
It’s been ages since I’ve listened to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, my husband loves them!
kookyrunner says
I think they are one of those timeless bands!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I’ve been listening to HIgher Ground, which I think rivals Stevie Wonder’s original! It’s a great motivator for a tough run.
kookyrunner says
I totally agree with you on that one!
Smitha @ FauxRunner says
Groovy!! Nice List
kookyrunner says
Thanks!
Coco says
Love the Red Hot Chili Peppers! I’ve gotten so lazy about making playlists. I really should carve out time.
kookyrunner says
It takes me a while to make playlists because I have so many songs, but I always end up using the playlists for a few months, so it’s worth it!
Kimberly Hatting says
I didn’t realize the Peppers had been around so long….I think my favorite song of their’s is Otherside. Snow is also legit 😉
kookyrunner says
Sometimes I sing Snow in the shower, lol
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
Otherwise and Dani California are two of my most favorite songs of all time, period. They have gotten me through many a run!
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
Otherside stupid autocorrect
kookyrunner says
I love those songs as well. Even though they are a slower tempo, those are great songs for when you’re in the zone during a long run
Elaine @myRUNexperiment says
One Hot Minute is my only RHCP album and the song Warped is my favorite! It’s a great workout song. Now that you brought it up, I may have to listen to it at one of my workouts this week 🙂
kookyrunner says
So glad that you’ll be listening to RHCP while you workout this week!
Abby @BackatSquareZero says
