Happy Sunday! Another busy week has come and gone. I feel like I blinked and the week was already over. It was another busy week with work travel, but there were some cool firsts that happened this week as well (I’ll touch base on those a little later).
Before I forget, I wanted to wish a Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there – I hope that you all enjoyed your day. Without further ado, here’s how my workouts went this week:
Monday, June 10
2 mile run + strength training.
Is it ever a good idea to book a 6am flight? The answer is NO, lol. Luckily I ended work a little early and was able to squeeze in a workout in the evening.
Tuesday, June 11
Unplanned Rest Day.
I was definitely planning on waking up early to get in a workout before my flight but I was exhausted when I woke up so I skipped it.
Wednesday, June 12
4 mile run + spinning (30 mins).
I was happy to be back home and back on my Peloton bike π
Thursday, June 13
OrangeTheory Fitness Class – Strength (60 mins).
The day I’ve been waiting for…my first OTF class! It was SO many things – scary, fun, hard, intimidating, etc. Overall I had a really great time and loved the sense of community.
Friday, June 14
Rest Day.
Saturday, June 15
6 mile run.
I had a morning appointment so my time was limited but I was able to get in 6 miles. I also tested out a new energy gel from Science in Sport (Sis) about halfway through my run and it wasn’t that bad. The consistency is like more of a liquid vs a gel so it will take me some time to get used to that, but I enjoyed the apple flavor.
Sunday, June 16
OrangeTheory Fitness Class – Endurance (60 mins).
I was happy to see that my numbers were much better during this class. I really tried to make sure that I wasn’t over exerting myself and staying in the red zone too long.
Total Weekly Mileage: 16.4 miles
Summary: 5 runs, 1 spinning class, 3 strength training workouts
Grade This Week β A
Monday was such a disaster! My day started off super duper early but luckily the flight was quick. Somehow I booked the wrong hotel (location was wrong) and I didn’t know that until I arrived. There were no rooms at the hotel I needed (because of Game 5 of the NBA Finals), but luckily I was able to book a room at a hotel not too far away (still in the downtown area). Plus there were just people everywhere because of the NBA Finals, it was crazy!
But there was one highlight to Monday. As I was leaving the hotel gym a woman came up to me and said “I’ve been working at this gym for a while and I’ve never seen anyone smile as much as you. It’s refreshing and you look so happy”. That was such a great thing to hear after a crazy day. The gym, and working out in general, is my happy place, so it’s kind of cool that someone else could notice that too.
Although I’ve only done 2 classes, I feel like I’ve been bitten by the OTF bug! The workouts are hard and I love that. I also love that it’s something new, which I’ve been craving for a while. The structure of the class is awesome and it also helps to add to my weekly mileage as well. One great takeaway so far is that I’m more aware of when I need to push or back off during my running, especially for easier paces. Oh and one more bonus, this OTF is located in a pretty popular shopping center in my city, right next to Trader Joes. This just makes it easier for me to stop in and grab some of my TJ favorites weekly π
That’s it! I hope you had a great week π
Iβm linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

I wish I could get past the texture of gels just cannot seem to. I will have to start working on fueling again soon. NO 6 am flights are never good. It is fun to try OT and harder than you might expect right? I have done it a few times but not really my things. Lots of people love it though! Thanks for linking up today
kookyrunner says
Yeah the gels are definitely an acquired taste. Years ago I used chews which worked well until one day my stomach just revolted against them π
Coco says
Yay! I’m so glad you like OTF. It’s addictive for sure! Oh no on booking the wrong hotel but I’m glad you were able to re-book to a closer one. My last trip to Chicago I showed up at the wrong Hilton, but luckily had a reservation where I needed to be. π
I definitely think of you as a happy person — you have such a great smile in your photos.
kookyrunner says
Thanks CoCo! I know that you are an OTF pro so I may have some questions for you in the future π
Booking the hotel was totally my fault. I was pre-occupied with 100 other things when I booked my travel. Lesson learned and I won’t be doing that again!
Wendy says
I’m so glad to hear you love OTF. I would love to try it (and there’s one near me), but I love my bootcamp so much. I’m dropping my hours at work in the near future, so maybe I’ll do it on that day. We’ll see.
I’m not surprised that person spotted your smiling face! I think you’re such a happy person. Plus you have a beautiful smile! Have a great week!
kookyrunner says
I bet that your bootcamp and OTF are very similar!
Thanks Wendy! I do tend to smile a lot, sometimes without noticing it, lol
Kimberly Hatting says
Yay for the smiling compliment π Smiling really does make the world a better place, for all of us. We were almost twinning on Saturday, but I ran an itsy bit further and did nor wear my Rnr Philly shirt. But we did end the week with similar mileage π Glad OTF was such a hit for you!! Thanks for linking with us, #KimTwin
kookyrunner says
It really does! I don’t understand people that don’t smile, lol.
Liz Dexter says
Good work! I love the comment from the lady in the gym, too!
I used to use SIS gels and didn’t mind the runninness, however I discovered Gu and Torq both give you more calories for a smaller packet to carry, so switched over to them. It’s nice to know I can tolerate SIS in case they’re being offered at a race, however.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Liz! I agree with you about the Sis gel – it’s kind of long and does take up a good amount of space.
Black Knight says
A solid week of training, congrats!
Many times I had to book my flights at 06.00 a.m. but it was the only way to spend more time in the cities where I had to go without being always in hurry.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I think if my 6am flight was for a vacation that would have made it better, but it was for work so that wasn’t fun at all lol
Marcia says
Awww what a wonderful thing that woman said to you! The nearest OTF is about 25 minutes away. Not far but not in a direction I’d normally go. Of course those are excuses. Ha! I just can’t see going there and keeping our gym membership. I’m glad and not surprised you love it.
kookyrunner says
Right?! Her comment totally made my day! So weird how words from a stranger can do that.
Before OTF opened in Stamford, the nearest one was about 20 minutes from me (w/out traffic) so I was so happy that this one is only like 10 minutes away. Although my gym membership is really cheap ($20/month), I think I might end up cancelling it – doesn’t make sense to have both.
Darlene says
I like SIS but they are too big to carry so I use GU.
Congrats on your first OTF. I’ve heard great things about it. GL.
kookyrunner says
I agree about the size of the SIS gel – I do wish that they were smaller.
Chaitali says
That’s great that you enjoyed the 2 OTF classes! And what a nice comment from the woman at the hotel gym π
kookyrunner says
Thanks Chaitali! I’m looking forward to my next two classes at OTF this week.
Hannah says
Working out while traveling is rough, especially with travel snafus! That’s great that the OTF classes make you aware when you’re pushing too hard. I’ve been to some workout classes where the instructor keeps telling you to push harder and harder for almost the entire class, which isn’t realistic or healthy!
kookyrunner says
Yes, always so hard to fit everything in! I’ve also been in classes like that! At the time I thought it was motivation but looking back it was just nuts. You can’t push past your limit for the entire time – its definitely not healthy.
Allie says
OTF is awesome and I’m so happy for you that you love it so much and now have a nice shiny new one near you!! And although it sounds like you had some crazy travel there were some bright spots – especially the compliment about how much you smile – that is AWESOME!!!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Allie – I’m so glad that I love it too. I first signed up for it back in the Fall so I’ve been waiting a long time to try it out, lol.
Laetitia L. Brock says
I love Orange Theory. I’m convinced it’s greatly helped me increase my running speed in the past 6 months….
kookyrunner says
That’s great to hear! I’m hoping it can do the same thing for my running.
Cari says
I’m Team Early Morning Flight — vacation or work as it leaves me time to explore and/or settle in. I sometimes regret it if trains being a pain and I have to spend on cab, but non issue for me for work travel. Last trip I burned both ends with a 7a flight to NOLA and return flight that landed at 1a.
Glad OTF working well for you – I’m very eager to try it
kookyrunner says
That’s a good point. I don’t mind the early morning flights when traveling for personal time, but for work? Not so much, lol
Cari says
I think for me it’s an element of sightseeing. I got to explore Phoenix and New Orleans ahead of the meat of the conference
Jenn says
I am always about that first flight of the morning. In fact, I’ll be on one tomorrow!
Love that compliment about your smile. From your pictures, it really does seem to light up a room, and I think that’s an amazing quality to have.
Gah about the hotel! That would have totally set my anxiety into overdrive. Glad you handled it and got everything taken care of!
kookyrunner says
That’s a good point – I don’t mind early morning flights when I’m traveling for vacation, but hate it for work travel, lol
Oh the hotel definitely sent my anxiety into overdrive – especially since I was afraid all the hotels would be sold out because of the game and so many of the hotels had jacked up prices. I got really lucky and found an affordable one that was nearby!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Glad to hear SIS is working for you – I just couldn’t stomach the consistency!
Sounds like you’re off to a good start with OTF! I’m so glad you like it! I wish the OTF around here were closer – I would love to check it out!
kookyrunner says
I totally get it about the consistency – at first I was like whoa, but then I kept taking it in and it got better, lol.
RenΓ©e says
Yay for OTF!! whoo hooo!
Sorry to hear about the snafu Monday with the hotel. Ugh. I once had a hotel booked for me through work and when I got there they had NO RECORD of my reservation. And this was in London… I”m like yeah, what am I supposed to do now! It was already getting late too and I had to be in the office quite early the next day. Luckily I managed to get a hold of our department secretary who was about to book me another room and a schmancier hotel π Still it was a stress that didn’t excite me much.
I used SiS for a long time but I can’t stomach banana or apple flavored anything! I now use High5 and they are really liquidy! The less “gel” like, the better. BUT… I also like Huma gels. These are thicker but kind of amazing.
kookyrunner says
I think OTF and I are gonna be good friends this summer, lol
I also used the Huma gels for a while but sometimes the thickness got on my nerves, but the flavor was amazing!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Early flights are tough! I’ve been on a few and always end up sleeping on the plane. Glad the hotel situation worked out. I went to Fort Lauderdale for a RnR race and the hotel had cancelled my reservation. They said they had called to let me know. I was to shocked and sad to even ask why it was cancelled. Luckily they had another room available for me.
Love the smile compliment! You do have a nice smile.
kookyrunner says
I wish that I could sleep on plans – I’ve never been able to unfortunately π That’s so crazy about your hotel reservation that was cancelled but I’m glad that they had another room available!
Debbie says
Oh my goodness, what a nice compliment and how nice that the lady took the time to let you know she noticed your smile! π
Hope you’re having a great week!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Debbie!
