Happy Sunday, and happy last day of June! How is everyone enjoying the summer heat this week? As expected, we barely had Spring and then jumped right into Summer. I was in Nashville for most of the week and let me tell you, the heat there is NO JOKE! Honestly, there’s so way I could live there. I was sweating just walking down the street!
Although I wasn’t home for most of the week, I was still able to keep up with my workouts. Here’s how my workouts went this week:
Monday, June 24
Spinning (45 minute Pride ride) + core work (5 minutes).
A great class and a great way to celebrate Pride month. I really love that Peloton has a very inclusive culture – that makes this #proudAlly very happy!
I also started the Peloton #CrushYourCore program. It consists of 4 weeks of classes to help strengthen your core. You do 4 classes a week and each class is 5-10 minutes.
Tuesday, June 25
5 mile run + core work (5 minutes)
Another treadmill run since it was pouring rain when I woke up. I had to get these miles in early since I was flying out to Nashville in the afternoon.
Wednesday, June 26
OrangeTheory Fitness (Strength Day – 60 minutes).
Luckily there was an OTF studio less than a mile from my hotel so I was able to pop in for a morning class before the conference sessions started. The front desk staff was so friendly and the instructor was amazing – I had such a great experience!
Thursday, June 27
4 mile run + Strength Training (10 minutes).
I was a little pressed for time but I was able to get in a good workout at the hotel gym. I’ve noticed that the Westin hotels always have really nice gyms with a good amount of equipment!
Friday, June 28
A much needed rest day! Thank goodness it was a rest day because I got home later than expected due to the crazy traffic at LaGuardia Airport. Honestly, I absolutely hate the NYC airports but they are the closest ones to me so I always end up using them – ugh!
Saturday, June 29
7 mile run + core work (10 minutes).
Holy humidity Batman! I am going to say this was my first summer run and it was just as hard as I expected. All I can say is thank goodness for the ice cold water I had in my car.
Sunday, June 30
Spinning (60 minutes) + core work (10 minutes)
I was back in the gym for spin class. I love my Peloton bike but I also enjoy taking live classes with other people as well.
Total Weekly Mileage: 18 miles
Summary: 4 runs, 2 spinning classes, 2 strength training workouts
Grade This Week ā A
I ended the month with 67 miles and I’m happy with that! Marathon training starts on July 8th so I’ve just been trying to slowly build up the mileage the past few weeks so that I would have a good base before starting training.
Although I wish I was able to see more of Nashville, it was still a nice trip. I will say that I was disappointed with the food, probably because most of my meals were provided at the hotel where we had the conference. My co-worker and I did got a cool place for breakfast on Friday called Biscuit Love. I got a biscuit w/ jam and yogurt with granola and both were so yummy!
I was in conference sessions all day but they did plan some fun evening activities for us. Wednesday night we were able to visit the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
The group spent about an hour with 3 amazing songwriters and we actually wrote a song with them! After that, we had some time to tour the Hall of Fame and Museum. I’m not a huge country music fan, but it was really cool to see memorabilia from a few artists that I recognized. Here are just a few photos:
I also had a free hour one day so I headed down to Broadway. I was told this was the best place to get souvenirs so I picked up some items for my parents and sister. That area of the city also had a bunch of cool bars and restaurants. If I go back to Nashville, I will be sure to spend some more time down in that area!
I’m hoping that the #CrushYourCore program will get me into a routine when it comes to consistently working on my core. That is definitely the one body part that I don’t spend enough time on, which is a shame because it’s so important!
That’s it! I hope you had a great week š
Iām linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.

Nice job keeping up on your workouts while traveling for business! And yuck to hotel conference food. Too bad, it’s supposed to be a real foodie city (or maybe a good thing, LOL).
Haven’t been there yet, I do think about that maybe for a half someday. I have been to Pigeon Forge — the town itself is way too commercial but where we stayed was nice & Smoky Mt Natl Park, too.

That’s why I was a little sad because I was looking forward to all the yummy food, lol.
I would love to run the St. Jude Half Marathon in Memphis but I’ve heard the course is super hilly!
Kimberly Hatting says
I’ve been to Nashville a few times, but always with little kids, so sight-seeing was very limited LOL I gotta say, that Dolly Parton plaque does not do her justice. I bet she was horrified when it was revealed LOL Great solid, week, Kim, especially considering all your traveling and limited time. Thanks for linking with us!
kookyrunner says
LOL I 100% agree with you on that Dolly Parton plaque..actually all of those plaques were pretty bad, lol.
Marcia says
Way to keep up with your workouts while you traveled! Too bad you weren’t able to sample more of the great food there. Why does conference food have to suck?? I’m excited for you to start marathon training! Hopefully you won’t have to battle too much heat.
kookyrunner says
I agree – I was really looking forward to the food but the hotel definitely missed the mark. I only really enjoyed one meal the whole time I was there.

It’s too bad you didn’t get to experience more of Nashville. Whenever I get brochures for educational conferences, they are always in good places, but with the meetings all day long, you really don’t get to explore much! When my sister and I were in Nashville, we wanted to go to Biscuit Love, but the line was down the street! Glad to hear it was good.
kookyrunner says
We got to Biscuit Love shortly after they opened (around 7:30am) so luckily there wasn’t a line but when we left about an hour later the line was all the way down the street!

I’ve never been to Nashville, but would really like to go! I’ve heard such rave reviews about the food, but like you said, you were mostly at the hotel..work travel is not as much fun as its cracked up to be!
I’ll actually be in Montauke for a work offsite the week after the 4th…Any chance you’ve been and can recommend place to run? Worth a shot!
Great job getting in so many workouts in between work!
kookyrunner says
I’ll have to visit the city again for an actual vacation so I can experience all the great places to eat!
I’ve never been to Montauk before so I’m not sure of any cool places to run – sorry! But hopefully the hotel will have some suggestions for you.
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
I have never been to Nashville but it is on my list for sure. Great job getting in all your workouts while traveling. I am loving the core program and starting week 4 tomorrow. I will probably repeat it again. Thanks for linking up!
kookyrunner says
I think I’ll probably repeat the core program once I finish it too. It’s so easy to fit in the 5-10 minute workouts!

Wow!! So much going on for you and yes, the heat is a killer up here in the northeast so I cannot fathom Nashville in late June – yikes!! So cool that you were able to take that Pride ride with Peleton and then grabbed a OTF class in Nashville. I haven’t been to Nashville in about 15 years but my husband goes quite a bit for work and says it’s incredible and the downtown scene is just amazing with all the new developments. Glad you were able to see a little bit of it and are now out of traffic (OMG NYC airports are THE WORST!) and back home š
kookyrunner says
Nashville is definitely a city that I want to visit again, but for vacation, not for work! I couldn’t really get out and explore like I wanted to which was a bummer.
Chaitali says
Sounds like a fun time in Nashville with those cool events! Though too bad about the heat and the food. That’s a great idea to do that core series. I really need to get back to doing core workouts as well.
kookyrunner says
I am so lazy when it comes to core workouts – primarily because I hate them, lol. I’m going to try to get more consistent about doing them this summer.
Darlene says
Never been to Nashville and would love to go. Kudos to you on getting it done while working. I personally know how hard that is.
My marathon training starts today!! so I will be asking you for advice.
kookyrunner says
Woohoo! So cool that your marathon training starts today and I’m looking forward to following your journey!! š

Nashville is on my wishing list if I persuade my wife to flight again!
Here the heat is terrible too so I spend many hours on the beach.
5 miles on the “dreadmill”, you are an hero.
kookyrunner says
It seems like last week was super hot everywhere! Summer is definitely here.
Sandra D Laflamme says
I would love to go to Nashville. Looks like it was a great visit. Love that Peloton is all inclusive and celebrated PRIDE.
kookyrunner says
I would definitely visit Nashville again for vacation!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Your picture reminded me that I just tried Tailwind this week on my long run. Have you ever used it? I’ve got friends that swear by it. I guess it was OK, I survived my 16 miles in the heat! š
kookyrunner says
I have used it before and love it! I know that you arent supposed to need gels when you use it but I do, especially for those super long runs.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Nice work keeping up with your workouts! I would love to check out Nashville – I would imagine at this time of year the heat there must really be intense – glad you didn’t melt LOL!
kookyrunner says
If I go back it will be earlier in the year, maybe March or April lol. I just can’t stand excessive heat like that!
Jenn says
I’m sorry you didn’t get to see more of the city, but it still looks like a great trip.
Awesome variety of workouts this week, too! You were really getting it done!
kookyrunner says
thanks so much Jenn!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I love that you were able to workout at OT while in Nashville. Like you, I’m not a country music fan, but would enjoy touring the museum and looking for artists I’m familiar with.
Have a great week!
kookyrunner says
The museum was really cool because I was able to recognize a good amount of names – i was actually shocked!
Cari says
Great photos!
I love the idea of the Peloton core workouts.
And yes, agree with you re: westins
kookyrunner says
I have been so impressed with their hotels!
Liz Dexter says
Great work building your base and core, that will stand you in good stead when the training kicks in. And great pics – thanks for sharing them with us!
kookyrunner says
Thanks so much Liz!

Loved all of the fun things you did in Nashville! I’ve only been there twice (once for work and another time when I ran RnR Nashville). I keep saying that i would like to go again to Nashville because when I ran it rained the entire time and it was just horrible.
Core work is definitely something that I need to do. I cringe whenever i see my pictures because of my big stomach. Haha!!! Plus I know it will help me as a runner. š
kookyrunner says
I remember that you told me about all the rain you had during that race – such a bummer! Hopefully you’ll get to go back there when the weather is better.
