Happy Sunday! The theme of this week was craziness – both at my job and with the weather. Work has been kicking my butt so I was glad that I took the day off on Friday. It was a much needed break even if it was only for a day. The weather this week felt like summer, with yesterday being the oddest today because of the 95% humidity. I’m just ready for Fall weather to come back and stay.
Monday, October 11
Core Strength 3/31/21 – Selena (10 minutes)
World Mental Health Day: Recovery Ride 10/9/21 – Ben (20 minutes)
Orangetheory Fitness – Strength/Endurance (60 minutes)
World Mental Health Day Slow Flow 10/9/21 – Anna (20 minutes)
The OTF class felt like a Hell Week workout. I don’t know if it felt hard was because it was Monday, or because it was a 60 minute class, or because it was a small class so we all started on the treadmill (I normally start on the rower/floor to warm my body up for the treadmill block). My legs were still hurting when I made myself lunch hours after class, lol. I took a few more of the World Mental Health Day classes and enjoyed both of them, especially the slow flow yoga class.
Tuesday, October 12
Pre-Run Warm Up 10/5/21 – Daniel (5 minutes)
Bring the Heat Run 11/27/20 – Becs (45 minutes)
Bring the Heat Bike Bootcamp 11/27/20 – Cody (45 minutes)
Core Strength 3/31/21 – Selena (10 minutes)
World Mental Health Day Stretch 10/9/21 – Erik (10 minutes)
World Mental Health Day Yoga Flow 10/9/21 – Mariana (30 minutes)
When I woke up I was about 90% sure I wasn’t going to do my planned workout. Once I checked my calendar and saw all my meetings for the day, I knew I had to suck it up and just get the workout done. I had these “Bring the Heat” classes bookmarked for a while so I opted to stack them. These classes originally took place the day after Thanksgiving last year. Becs’ class focused more on gratitude and giving thanks and Cody’s class focused more on the food and pie he ate for Thanksgiving, lol. It was a nice contrast between those two classes.
Wednesday, October 13
Orangetheory Fitness – ESP (45 minutes)
R&B Fun Run 9/23/19 – Jess (20 minutes)
Spotify We Everywhere Ride 2/21/21 – Cliff (30 minutes)
Core Strength 3/31/21 – Selena (10 minutes)
LHM Celebration Barre 10/8/21 – Ally (20 minutes)
Besides the inclines on the treadmill, this would have been a great OTF class because we had drop sets for the strength portion of the workout. I say ‘would have been’ because I had to lift much lighter than usual. About 2-3 weeks ago I think I pulled a muscle in my chest (it’s been pretty sore). I went to the doctor on Monday and he gave me a prescription for an anti-inflammatory and a muscle relaxer and told me no heavy lifting for 2 weeks 🙁 Y’all know how much I love to lift so this is a bummer.
Thursday, October 14
LHM: Fiesta Latina Ride 10/8/21 – Camila (20 minutes)
LHM Celebration Ride 10/8/21 – Camila (20 minutes)
World Mental Health Day Run 10/9/21 – Selena (30 minutes)
LHM Glutes & Legs Strength 10/4/21 – Rebecca (20 minutes)
LHM Celebration HIIT Cardio 10/7/21 – Adrian (20 minutes)
Camila is the newest Peloton cycle instructor and she teaches in both English and Spanish. She seems like a really fun person and I loved her energy on both rides. I absolutely LOVED the World Mental Health Day run. Selena shared a very personal story and talked about the importance of taking care of your mental health, which was a great reminder for me.
I had an afternoon appointment with my ART doctor to take care of some issues with my lower back. While I was there I told him about the pulled chest muscle. I described it in detail and he pressed down on the area and found the issue. Basically he said it seemed like I popped 2 of the smaller ribs out of place? That sounds dramatic, because I wasn’t in that much pain, so I just think maybe they were slightly out of place. Whatever he did put them back “in place” and it felt better but still kind of sore. Also on Wednesday night I took the muscle relaxer and decided I won’t be taking those anymore. I hated the way I felt the entire today – tired and in a fog. It was hard to be productive.
Friday, October 15
Labrinth Ride 10/14/21 – Hannah F (30 minutes)
Orangetheory Fitness – Strength (45 minutes)
LHM Upper Body Strength 10/6/21 – Chase (20 minutes)
LHM Full Body Strength 10/5/21 – Rad (20 minutes)
LHM: Bossa Nova Slow Flow 10/14/21 – Anna (30 minutes)
Yet another OTF class with tons of inclines for the treadmill block. Stick a form in me – I’m done! I know that they are just getting us prepared for Hell Week but my legs don’t appreciate it, lol.
Saturday, October 16
Bring the Heat Ride 11/27/20 – Emma (60 minutes)
Bad Bunny Ride 10/13/21 – Camila (30 minutes)
LHM Full Body Strength 10/5/21 – Erik (20 minutes)
Bad Bunny Power Yoga 10/13/21 – Mariana (30 minutes)
I skipped #Saturday60 this week since I would rather take it when I can lift heavier. I heard it was really, really hard so at least I have that to look forward to later on in the month, lol. I don’t take too many rides with Emma but this Bring the Heat ride was really good – great playlist, not too easy or too hard either. The Bad Bunny classes were great too.
Sunday, October 17
Warm Up Walk 4/22/19 – Rebecca (10 minutes)
LHM Celebration Run 10/14/21 – Kirsten (30 minutes)
UK BHM Celebration Run 10/17/21 – Jermaine (20 minutes)
UK BHM: Icons Ride 10/8/21 – Hannah F (20 minutes)
UK BHM: Future Icons Ride 10/8/21 – Hannah F (20 minutes)
Post-Ride Stretch 6/11/21 – Cliff (10 minutes)
LHM: Spanish Classical Yoga Flow 10/8/21 – Denis (20 minutes)
Kirsten’s LHM run was really fun! I also enjoyed all of the UK Black History Month classes because they exposed me to new UK black hip hop artists and Hannah provided a bit a UK black history in her rides as well. I’m going to do the yoga class later on this evening as I think it will be the perfect way to wind down from the weekend and get ready for the work week.
Total Weekly Mileage: 16 miles
Summary: 8 runs*, 9 cycle, 1 bootcamps, 5 yoga and 12 OTF/strength/HIIT classes.
*I include running from my OTF workouts, boot camp classes and stand alone runs.
Peloton Artist Series Classes Progress – 408/410
Did you know that Monday was National Kimberly Day? I laughed when Kim texted me to let me know about it – I think there’s literally a national day for everything!
On Tuesday I got a text and an email from American Express asking me if I authorized a payment for Comcast cable. I definitely did not so I was able to quickly decline the charge, cancel my card and order a new one. It’s just so annoying when this happens and I’ll never understand the brain of scammers that do this. I am super thankful for the AMEX fraud department for contacting me so quickly!
Anyone have plans for Halloween? I’m going to workout in a costume at OTF that morning and then plan on handing out candy to the trick-or-treaters at night. I always struggle with how much candy to buy. Last year I purchases too much and we had so much left over – but last year was also odd because of the pandemic. This year may be a little more ‘normal’.
…and now for this week’s memes
That’s it! I hope you had a great week 🙂
I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down.
In Case You Missed It
Tuesday Topics: Saving Money on Running Gear and Races
Deborah Brooks says
thanks for the laughs there! That is weird about your ribs! Glad they are feeling better. I also have a hard time with those muscle relaxers or any sleep meds. I tried one on a long flight and was so loopy when we landed. You hit up all of the new instructors this week! I like Daniel and need to try out some of the others
kookyrunner says
This was my first time taking muscle relaxers and the doctor told me that I would feel tired but I just felt totally out of it.
Daniel cracks me up! It’s odd because I can understand everything he says although I know some people struggle with understanding him lol.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I am sorry about the pulled chest muscle/rib. Whatever it is it can’t be a lot of fun. Feel better, Kim! You still got in a LOT of activity despite it.
My mom gets the extended warranty calls. She hasn’t had a car since she moved to her apartment — 5 years ago!
kookyrunner says
Thanks Judy. Definitely not a lot of fun BUT it does feel way better today than it did a week ago so that’s a big plus!
That’s crazy that your mom gets those extended warranty calls too! I often wonder who had the time to come up with this ridiculous scam, lol.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Sorry about your pulled muscle! I hope it starts to feel better. I don’t really like taking meds like that either because of how they make me feel. I had to laugh at that meme about the 90s teachers and calculators. How true is that!!
kookyrunner says
The calculator meme is so true. I think every math teacher I had in high school said that at least once. Well the joke’s on them, haha.
Jenny says
HEE HEE! Love the calculator meme.
I hope your chest is feeling better now that those ribs have been “popped” back into place. A lot of times when doctors prescribe muscle relaxers and pain pills, I think they don’t know who they’re dealing with. People who work out a lot are used to some discomfort- we don’t need to cover up every single twinge. Anyway I hope it feels good this week.
kookyrunner says
Yup, you’re absolutely right! I only go to the doctor if I have discomfort for more than 2 weeks. Other than that, I try to rest and see if it will heal on it’s own. But at least now I know that I don’t want to take muscle relaxers again.
Michelle D. says
Ouch on your ribs! I hope you’re feeling better now. I don’t do well with muscle relaxers and the like either – that foggy feeling is so disorienting.
I love the mix of classes you took this week and have bookmarked a bunch!
Happy Nat’l Kim Day 🙂
kookyrunner says
Thanks Michelle! It feels a lot better than it did a week ago so I’m hoping it will be back to normal by this time next week. It needs to be since Hell Week starts at OTF next Sunday! You’re so right about the foggy feeling being disorienting – I as happy that I didn’t nee to drive any where far that day.
Wendy says
Work has been brutal for me as well…probably the last 6 weeks. Between parents waiting past the deadline to get their school physicals and the ‘I’m going to do my own research’ crowd, I’ve been hitting the wine a little more than usual lately. Thank goodness for hard workouts!
LOL to the Joe Lean meme. I have a little patient named Jolene and when she was born, I had just seen a heavy metal remake of the song. So naturally, I mentioned it to her parents…yikes…thankfully they have a great sense of humor. The dad told me that he actually watched it…
kookyrunner says
Yikes! Sorry that so many parents wait past the deadline for the school physicals. I’m sure that just adds more chaos to your schedule. Hopefully it will die down soon.
I’ve never met a Jolene in real life but always thought it was such a unique name!
Marcia says
Lol on the pocket calculator! Guess the students have the last laugh on that one! Yikes on the pulled muscle. Glad you’re on the mend. Based on the looks of the school bus stop, we have more kids in the neighborhood than ever, so I think I need to load up on the candy. Of course Thing 1 expects a college care package too! Haha!
kookyrunner says
Haha, yup! I think every math teacher I had in high school said the same thing about calculators. So funny how much things have changed.
I love that you are going to send your daughter a nice candy care package 🙂
Coco says
Oh, I didn’t know Camilla taught in English too! I did an ALW class in Spanish and wished I could understand everything she was saying — her energy is great!
I know what you mean about muscle relaxers. I can only take them if I can just go to bed. Because of another Rx I am on my Dr. gave me a less commonly used one when my upper back was jacked after I fractured my rib, and it doesn’t have those side effect, so there are milder ones out there if you need to try something else.
Between kids next door and kids a few houses down knowing us better because our dogs get along, I guess there’s a chance we’ll get trick-or-treaters this year, but even in the before times we only got a few. That doesn’t stop me from buying candy, though. 😉
kookyrunner says
I’m so glad she teaches in English too! I would take more of her Spanish classes if I could do English subtitles. Hopefully Peloton will offer that option soon.
That’s good to know about milder muscle relaxers. The one I have was 10mg so I almost called the doctor to see if I could get 5mg, but the injury seems to be responding to the anti-inflammatory pills he prescribed so I will continue to take those.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Yay for your ART doctor’s magic touch! I hope the chest pain goes away completely and quickly.
That car warranty meme is hilarious!
kookyrunner says
I swear my ART doctor ALWAYS know the right spots to hit – it’s crazy!
Kimberly Hatting says
Oh gosh, the pocket calculator! Mine sometimes just hangs out in my hand LOL A coworker was having some major back pain, and finally saw a chiro…he noticed immediately she had a rib (or a few?) out of place, gave her a “poke,” and she felt better almost immediately. Crazy how those unassuming little bones can wreak such havoc!
kookyrunner says
Oh wow! So glad that your friend was able to get relief by going to the chiro. It’s amazing how they know the exact areas to hit.
Jessie says
oh my Kim, your ribs! WOW. I’m glad the doctor knew what was up and could help you. That sounds painful- you are tough!
Love the calculator meme. Use mine all the time!
kookyrunner says
My ART doctor has the magic touch – he’s amazing! I was so thankful he was able to help and I feel so much better this week.
I use my calculator on my phone all the time too, lol.
Darlene S. Cardillo says
Sorry to hear about your pain. Hope you are on the mend.
Still you got in a lot of workouts.
Yes on the summer weather. But chilly this morning. Crazy.
kookyrunner says
Thanks Darlene! It feels way better this week so I think I’m on the mend.
Black Knight says
Sorry for the ribs problem but I am glad you have a great doctor.
I hope you feel better soon.
I had pain in the vertebrae (over time they came closer) and the doctor told me that I should always do gymnastics to keep the abdominal and back muscles strong in order to prevent discomfort.
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I am feeling much better this week vs last week.
Liz Dexter says
Sorry about the ribs, yikes! Cool Peleton is doing that for our Black History Month (I don’t know how easy it is to find British Black history stuff there, if you need any recs just let me know or poke around in my blog). Not trying to Whitesplain, just saving some work as American stuff even dominates here.
kookyrunner says
To be honest I haven’t really researched a lot of UK Black History stuff so thanks so much for the offer! i imagine it would be hard to find here.
Liz Dexter says
Oh brilliant. I recommend David Olusoga’s Black and British – the adult version is BIG and difficult, took me a while to get through, but he’s done a children’s one which is really good. He goes right through from the Romans! Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race by Reni Eddo-Lodge is excellent on both modern racism and British Black history. Sathnam Sanghera’s Empireland is a very good look at British Empire throughout the world, legacies of slavery, etc., as well as other empire stuff, e.g. India. Bernadine Evaristo’s Mr Loverman is a wonderful novel that looks at the Caribbean diaspora in the UK for more modern history and her Girl, Woman, Other has a deep dive through the 20th century and this century again for more modern stuff. Candice Carty-Williams’ Queenie is a wonderful novel about a young Black woman in South London, with again a Caribbean heritage so a reaching back into post-Windrush stuff. Ore Agbaje-Williams and Nancy Adimora’s – Of This Our Country: Acclaimed Nigerian Writers on the Home, Identity and Culture they Know looks at the British and Nigerian relationship with some history of both. Otherwise, poke around on my blog, though I read some US stuff too, or feel free to ask for more!
kookyrunner says
OMG Liz, this is fantastic! Thank you do much for ALL of these recommendations – I truly appreciate it!
Liz Dexter says
Do let me know if you get to any of them and what you think. I always find it interesting!
