Happy Wednesday! Today Iām linking up with Annmarie from The Fit Foodie Mama, Jen from Pretty Little Grub, Michelle at Fruition Fitness and Nicole from Nicole from FitFul Focus for Wild Workout Wednesday!
When I announced my 2016 goals, the theme was “keep it simple”. There were no crazy/outrageous goals and no mileage number that I wanted to hit this year. At the end of 2015 I felt like I had “runner burnout” so keeping my goals simple were the way to go. So how am I doing?
Goal: Meet as many social media friends as possible
Grade: A+
I’m ROCKING this goal so hard! This is by far the most fun goal I have on my list and I know that I still have many more social media friends to meet later on this year (Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago, Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia, NYC Marathon and Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas)!
In March I finally met Dani and a few other #WeRunSocial crew members!
I met a few more members from Black Girls Run Connecticut during the Hot Chocolate 15K in Philly.
…and then in the Grand Daddy of all #WeRunSocial meetups happened in June during the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego weekend. I meet SO many awesome runners that I follow on social media (too many to list)!
Goal: Start and Finish the NYC Marathon (my first marathon!)
Grade: TBD
Well we’re going to have to wait until November 6 for this goal, but I start my 16-week training plan in less than 2 weeks!
Goal: Shave 5 minutes off my current Half Marathon PR
Grade: C
Well I’ve completed 3 “less than ideal” half marathons this year and had a DNS for my fourth. I thought I would freeze to death during the NYC Half, I had some injury flare ups for the Brooklyn Half and I ran Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego with a swollen/bum knee. Needless to say NONE of these were “PR worthy” half marathons, but I do have more races coming up in the Fall. I think I will try to PR during the Philly Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon in September if my marathon training goes well.
Goal: Complete the NYRR Five Borough-Series
Grade: A+
I’m more than halfway done with the goal. So far I have completed the NYC Half in March, Brooklyn Half in May and the Queens 10K in June. I’ll tackle the Bronx 10 Mile (September) and Staten Island Half (October) in the Fall! Of course I’ll run through all five boroughs during the NYC Marathon š
Goal: Commit to strength training and PT exercises 3x week
Grade: B-
I started off strong with both, but I could definitely do a better job of being more consistent with my PT exercises. Sometimes I only did them once a week and I know I need to do them more. My gym changed some of the classes so right now I’m only getting in strength training 2x/week with classes (HIIT and boot camp), but I can also do my own weights/strength training workout at home.
Those are my five goals and I’m pretty happy with the progress so far. I plan to keep all the positive momentum going for the last half of the year!
Did you set goals in January? If so, are you on task to achieve those goals?

I think you’ll get a chance to PR at RnR Philly. It is definitely a flat course.

I’m looking forward to running that race. I really like Philly!

Kim aka Kookyrunner! Love your blog and congratulations on having a great time running & accomplishing your goals! I will also be doing the RnR Philly, I am very excited and pumped up to do it! I am from San Diego, California so I will be traveling across the country for this half marathon….eeeek, yes, I’m crazy! =oD I hope there is a WeRunSocial meetup there as well. Do you know when? I’d love to do some sightseeing, meet up with the WRS crew and hopefully squeeze in a Phillies baseball game while I’m there…hahahaaa, so much and so little time!
kookyrunner says
Hi Judy! So exciting that you are also doing RnR Philly! I did RnR San Diego earlier this year so I was in your neck of the woods š I’m sure there will be a WRS meet up, but I’m not sure when. One eI have details I’ll post on here and also on Instagram/Twitter š Hope to see you in Philly!!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Great job with your goals. And ooh, I’ll also be running RnR Philly so I hope that we’ll be able to meet! I’m trying to step up my PT exercises too…it’s so easy to neglect!
kookyrunner says
Awesome! I really hope we get to connect that weekend!
Sharon says
Yay for your goal of meeting friends on social media! I’ll be at RnR Las Vegas too so hope to meet you then! š You’ve got a lot of great races coming up. RnR Philly is a great one for a PR, since it is mostly flat from what I remember. I’ve been slacking on my strength training too but I’m working on getting more in for my marathon in October.
kookyrunner says
Awesome – cant wait to see you in Vegas!
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
You’re rocking it so far! I know you are going to snag that half PR and I’m so excited for the NYC Marathon! Woot!

Thanks so much Nicole!

Aaaah! So excited for you for the NYCM!!!!
kookyrunner says
Thanks! I’m excited and scared at the same time LOL
Jen @ SprinklesHikes.com says
Congrats on your goals so far! I wish I was as ambitious with mine this year… Also, totally unrelated note – the photo you posted of the RNR medal, I seriously thought that was a stack of pancakes and not the Liberty Bell for a second. I was like “wow, a pancake medal – how neat! What does that have to do with Philly though…??” hahaha
kookyrunner says
LMAO! That’s so funny. Now that I look at it again, I also see pancakes haha
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub says
Good luck in Philly and with marathon training. NYC marathon was the most incredible experience of my life, you’re gonna love it!
kookyrunner says
I am really looking forward to it! I may be reaching out to you to learn more about your experience š
Abby @ BackAtSquareZero says

I”m so sad we won’t get to meet at RnRChicago!
